But it's not 80s but 90s, I think? Do you know if the DVD is coming out in region 2 as well, or just region 1?

I'm sorry but the Golden Girls -Season one is available only in Region 1 at the moment;by the way the show began in 1985 and ended in 1992 so we can definitely consider it a 80's show.

Giancarlo, thanks a lot for the info! Too bad it won't be out in region 2 - I just thought I had a nice additional Christmas present for my parents... Let's hope they don't forget the GG fans here in Europe!
(and sorry, I wasn't aware that the show already started in the 80s!! You are so right)

Funny this topic came up, that ET Scandals show that airs on weekends did a GG thing. Getty is suffering from dementia/Alzheiemer's. Rue called her and every answer was "Yes" to any statement. Sad, cuz Estelle was also in the proverbial fave Mannequin.

I am getting a resurgence (is that a word?) about wanting to see a lot more of 80's television series in order. About the only way to do that would be to purchase them. I was also a big fan of Designing Women and I know that they have a greatest episode DVD available and maybe even by now they have DVD's available by season.
I put in a recent post my obsession with Moonlighting and that I just purchased season 1 and 2. I think Golden Girls might be the next one worth getting.

What stores sell the Moonlighting DVDs? I haven't seen them yet. One of the more frightening moments of my early TV career (up to age 8) was one early episode whose title I can't remember right now (if you remember please refresh me)where they're taken at gunpoint at the end and the villainess, after going through the predictable bad guy routine of explaining off the whole plan and going into detail about how she's going to kill them, just blasts Bruce in the chest quite realistically (this was before, of course he became BRUNO, THE ABSOLUTELY BULLETPROOF AND UTTERLY UNSTOPPABLE FORCE, so for a moment I was terrfied that I'd just seen someone die on national TV.
That aside, the next show I want to see released most that hasn't had season 1 yet is Perfect Strangers. Looking back now, it holds up as the most entertaining of the multitude of shows that ran under the TGIF block in its 12 years of existence (and spawned Family Matters through Harriet Winslow, after all). The next guaranteed released I'm waiting for is Season 2 of ALF in August; unfortunately, we'll only be getting the syndicated versions again, but this time Lion's Gate's taken the time to explain that they're doing this because the syndicated tapes are of better quality than the NBC masters. Oh well, it would probably be even worse on Melmac...
I remember the Golden Girls semi-vividly; Saturday night was using video rental night with my father and I, but I tuned in when I got the chance. I loved Estelle Getty the best; those one liners were just so brutal they'd kill us before she'd die, if that makes any sense to you. Who can recall the CBS spinoff The Golden Palace?
