I still consider "Take On Me" one the greatest, if not the greatest music videos ever!

But who remembers the music video to a-ha's "The Sun Always Shines on T.V." which begins with a sad continuation of "Take On Me"?'

 - (click to play)

jdoc.. I agree that the entire album is excellent.

Great thread! I remember first seeing A-ha's "Take on Me" Video on MTV in Fall 1985 - I was in high school at the time, and truly floored by the visuals & music - there was definitely nothing else like this out there (either before or since); very clever storyline & visual effects, and the song itself rocked too!

However, other than that song, back in the '80's I honestly wasn't that familiar with the band's other songs, with the possible exception of "The Living Daylights", which was the great theme song to the '87 James Bond film (which I saw in the theater).

It wasn't until years later (the 200X's) when I bought a "Best of" CD of theirs & "Scoundrel Days"; after listening to these, I really came to appreciate their other songs. They definitely deserve to be remembered for more than just "Take on Me" & "The Living Daylights". They are definitely underrated, both back in the '80's & now; other great songs of theirs include:

The Sun Always Shines on TV
Manhattan Skyline
Hunting High and Low
Move to Memphis
Early Morning
October
Cry Wolf
Stay on these roads

In fact, I listened to these CD's so much that I wore them out. And, this thread is inspiring me to try to seek out some of their other studio albums. I'd like to re-discover this music...

It's worth mentioning that although A-ha were something of a one-hit wonder in the US ('The Sun Always Shines on TV' having its video banned didn't help it get higher than about #20 in the US), they were much bigger elsewhere. Of the songs Nostalgic listed above, 'Living Daylights', 'Stay on These Roads', 'Hunting High and Low', 'Cry Wolf' - were all top ten hits in the UK, and Sun Always Shines was a #1. They had 2 full years as a top pop group and only began to fade when the Stock Aitken Waterman boom started in late '87.

I remember when we watched the awesome Ending on a High Note: The Final Concert (2010) blu and maybe even shed few tears
and then they decided to make the second comeback, the wicked norwegians [Big Grin]

Just kidding. Such a great band, i hope they´ll never retire.

I dug out my "Headlines & Deadlines: The best of A-ha" and the "Scoundrel Days" CD's - both seem to be in fairly good shape, and I'm enjoying re-discovering the band - great stuff here!

Being in the U.S., I don't remember hearing any A-ha songs on the radio other than "Take on Me" and maybe "The Living Daylights" back in the '80's. Too bad, since the band definitely deserved more recognition than they got in their heyday.

I just saw "The Sun Always Shines on TV" video for the first time - excellent! I liked how it was a semi-continuation of the "Take on Me" video, and the band playing in the church?! with all of the mannequins around was quite interesting - and bizarre. I had no idea the video was banned. Strange. In any case, this is one of the best music videos I've seen - though not as iconic as "Take on Me", it's still extremely well-done & unique.

Just listened Morten Harket´s fifth solo album Out of My Hands (2012).
It´s a very good synth pop cd and easily recommended to all A-ha fans.

Cool track Atomik, not heard it before,5th solo album Wow! I don't think I've ever really looked into his solo material but I should do as I reckon I would like the majority of it!

That cover of Out Of My Hands makes it look a bit like it's Morten's head on a bodybuilder's body unless he's been pumping the iron of late [Big Grin]
