I vividly remember this band-and many like them in the early 80's. With MTV, you couldn't get away from Ratt, Poison, Cinderella and other what were called/considered "hair bands".

I have only one of their albums:
 -

But liked/like a lot of their songs.

Too Young To Fall in Love
Without You
Kickstart My Heart
Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)
Looks That Kill

I just finished reading "The Dirt"-it was great, no stone left unturned! Brutally, graphically honest-and sometimes sad.

 -

I was surprised when someone referred to them as a "chick band"-I never thought so. Any fans out there???

Bamersy.. there will be a guy on here soon that will definitely want to contribute since his Rewind name is mainly based on the band.

While I'm not a diehard Motley Crue fan.. I must admit that they rocked the 80's. And most guys will remember the music video for "Girls, Girls, Girls"..

But for me .. the tune "Home Sweet Home" is my fav. It was on a mix tape that I vividly remember from a Myrtle Beach trip with friends in college. That mix tape was the stuff of legends..

I'm by far not the biggest Crue fan either. But yeah, they did come out with some nice jams back in the day. Songs like Live Wire, S.O.S (Same ole Situation), Dr. Feelgood and Kickstart my Heart would be among my favs from them. Girls, Girls, Girls is actually one of my least favorite of theirs..of course the video is great though..hehe.

I'm a huge Motley Crue fan!!! Your post is very timely Bamersy...I've been listening to them all week on my iPod and I whipped out my copy of The Dirt for a revisit!!

"On With The Show" is my favorite Crue song...followed by "Wildside." Put that one on and watch me get fired up!! Haha [Smile] !!

My ex bought me tickets to see them on Valentine's Day back in 2005 I believe...it was their Carnival of Sins Tour!! Best present ever!!!!!!

The Crue performed like a well oiled machine!! The energy was incredible between the group & the audience!! Lots of fun stuff to look at in terms of fashion & hair in that crowd!!

Beyond the music & live shows, I'm in love with Nikki Sixx!!! He's the hottest thing since sunburn!!! Ever since I bought my Theater of Pain vinyl in the 80's and saw his picture on the back cover, that was it!!! Damn!!! Until I started reading the liner notes, I didn't realize he is responsible for the majority of the writing credits for the Crue!

Additionally, it's pretty cool that he also dated Lita Ford for a while back in the day!! He wrote her song "Fallin' In And Out Of Love," which is another classic to me!!!

Nikki has another book coming out in April called This Is Gonna Hurt. You know I'm on it! I love his clever, profane & sometimes twisted perspective on life.

Well, I could go on and on but I better stop!! Anyways, great thread!!!

They were definitely on my radar in the 80's, but lost track of them in the 90's when my son was born. What was so great about reading the book, was all those events that did catch my attention over the years, like Vince's car crash that killed Razzle from Hanoi Rocks, Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson's marriage, Nikki's "death" by ODing, Vince and Axl Rose's "feud".

Plus some things I didn't know-like Vince's 4 year old daughter dying at age 4 from a very aggressive form of cancer, and Mick Mars' debilitating genetic disease.

He always seemed different than the others-older and scarier, but gotta love his "shut up or nut up" attitude when it came time for everyone to go through therapy!

I was not a huge fan of theirs in the 80's, although you're right Bamersy- you couldn't escape seeing them nonstop on MTV. The first time I saw them was during the Dr. Feelgood tour, I think 1990. My friend begged me to go, and it was at the brand new amphitheater outside of Pittsburgh. I went and had a great time. I've seen them a total of 6 or 7 times now. They usually put on a good show, but the last time I saw them was literally the day of Hurricane Katrina. Even though we were in the pavilion, we still got soaked because of torrential downpours and high winds. Therefore, the show was not what everyone else in the country experienced, and it was cut way short. I thought they should have either cancelled or rescheduled it, but I guess they (management or whoever) were too greedy and gave us a less than stellar show. It definitely wasn't worth the $100+ per ticket.

Pitts.. now if your hurricane concert had been The Scorpions .. then we would be talking all-time classic.

Motley Crue was overplayed by MTV, but I totally enjoyed their music videos.

I like the Crue a lot. I too read The Dirt and loved it. I can't wait for Nikki's new book. Vince Neil's autobio...not so great. My favorite Crue song is You're All I Need. Now there's a song you didn't hear much of, and didn't MTV ban the video?

Crue is ok, but most of their albums have only 1-3 good tunes
because.. well you know why.
Started reading The Dirt two years ago and still haven´t finished it [Big Grin]

My bro has the Greatest Video Hits dvd and i like some of their videos.
Especially the uncensored ones [Wink]

Saw Crue live at Sauna Open Air 2009 festival. It was a good show.

Shout at the Devil, Looks that Kill, Too Young to Fall in Love, Girls, Girls, Girls,
Dr. Feelgood and Kickstart My Heart are some of my faves.

I remember having this poster (and lots of others) on the wall back in the 80s.

Motley Crue are a band I liked the idea of more than I liked the music... if you know what I mean. Plus, as Atomik says, their albums were always a little weak, usually having only a few good songs (I feel the same about Kiss albums). However, they did manage (between the debauchery) to generate enough good songs to make a terrific greatest hits!

I remember being a kid / young teen in the 80's and buying tapes that I didn't really like...just to impress my friends. My point being...Motley Crue was one of those bands I thought were cool and wanted to like...but just didn't.

I vividly remember buying Michael Jackson's Thriller and Culture Club's Color By Numbers at the same time (cassette tapes of course),and that being one of my favorite memories as a kid, so my additional point being...while all you cool guys and girls were home listening to Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, and WASP....I was home listening to Michael Jackson, Culture Club, Cyndi Lauper, and Huey Lewis! You had leather jackets...I had a wind breaker. You had studded bracelets...I had a calculator watch. Gettin my point here. I can now officially come out of the closest and say, hopefully amoung friends, I really didn't, nor still do, like any kind of heavy metal and/or hair bands. Michael the King Of Pop? No...it was me!

I usually liked any ballads these bands released, the one or two songs on the album the hard core fans loved to hate, so, owning the Girls Girls Girls album, I did really like "You're All I Need", and particularly loved "Nona" which sadly was only a minute or so long.

Love the Crue lol you know me. Didn't one of the guys from Cheap Trick say something about Nikki calling him during his drug years (mentioned in The Heroin Diaries) and then saying Nikki wasn't a good bass player lol.

I'm not a huge metal fan, and the only Crue album I really liked was "Dr. Feelgood" (1989), which came out right at the end of the '80's. This album rocked, and there was definitely not a bad song on here - "Dr. Feelgood", "Kickstart my Heart", "Don't go away Mad", "Same Ol' Situation", etc. were all great. And, the cover rocked too [Wink]
