Technically this is 70's music, but whatever. I've been informed that there's no actual studio recording of Jackson Browne's Running On Empty, only live versions. Does anyone know if that's true, and does anyone have the mp3 of it?

I enjoy a good music quest, so I'll poke around and see if I can find anything

Thanks, I thought the version they used in Forrest Gump sounded like a clean studio version. And I believe they used that same version in the final episode of the sadly defunct tv show Swingtown! So I guess there is one outthere.

After looking around, I'd say no, there hasn't been anything but the live version released. They have remastered it and they sometimes cut off the first 30 seconds of crowd noise, but it seems to always be the same live performance from '77. This isn't a definitive answer by any means, just what I've found after doing some searching.

Guys, you know I love you both as only a drunk can love an armchair, but at this moment I'm having to roll up my sleeve and give each of you a sharp slap in the face.
You were both hysterical. It was for your own good.
Now, back to the point; if you look at the post above, I clearly showed where the early versions of 'I Want You To Want Me' were to be found. But just to make things easy...
I know. I'm the greatest human being ever (apart from Chuck Norris).

Thanks for bringing me back to my senses, Logan, but I thought we were talking about 'Running On Empty'?

Roll up your sleeves SA... I think I need a slap. Better make it two.
You're right, it seems that Running was only recorded as a live song, and that's what's been released.
