You know I loved when 'Forever Young' was used in Napoleon Dynamite....I also noticed a younger generation knew the song and loved it because of the movie....but a new rap? I won't even comment and how do you guys know who all these people are? lol

not a fan of the song but i do like all genres of music and one plus i can say about the song is at least they guy singing it is singing it pretty close to the original and when he's singing there's no rapping being heard..just a beat. i liked when jay-z performed this song on SNL he dedicated it to betty white, who was hosting the show. and i agree about napoleon dynamite. even the song "the promise" is more recognized by a younger generation because of the movie. and yes, with a 10 year old daughter, i am fully aware of justin bieber and miley cyrus. there is no escaping, unfortunately.

You know, Im getting mighty tired of having to repeat myself over and over again to my daughters friends that these are all Old School songs being "sampled"/ ripped off.
Theres an Enrique Iglesias song that my daughter loves that "samples" All Night Long by LIONEL RICHIE. When i told her it was from a RICHIE song she said "Well then HE ripped it off from THE CHEETAH GIRLS" Hell to the No! Were THE CHEETAH GIRLS even ALIVE yet when LIONEL did that one?!
And my husband got mad that BLACK EYED PEAS "samples" one of his faves, It Takes Two by ROB BASE. He was ranting and raving (on a long car trip) and I finally had to say to him "As ****ed off as you are SOMEBODY paid ROB BASE for the rights and he more than happily cashed the check!"
I used to get ****ed too but around the time they did a Rap version of THE POLICE's Every Breath You Take I realized I shouldnt JUST be ****ed at the Rappers. STING was gettin PAID!

They did that as a tribute to Biggie Smalls-I remember Sting sang it live with Big's ex wife Faith and Puff.
The worst sampling-(besides Ice Ice Baby/Under Pressure)in my opinion was another one by Puff-Come with Me/Kashmir. Hard to believe Jimmy Page participated in that one. It was in a remake of Godzilla of all things!

No, nothing is sacred. It's mostly a lack of originality, sometimes it's an homage paid artist to artist for something that was inspiring to them. Usually it's $, same as when an iconic song is used for a commercial. Best to ignore it if you can

^This^
Why bother writing a hook for a song when you can steal someone else's? The people who buy it will be too young to know the original.
