Does anyone remember ALISHA? I think most people think she's a "One Hit Wonder" with All Night Passion but I remember she had songs called Too Turned On and Baby Talk too. (maybe even some others? I know she attempted a sort of "come back" in the late 90s?)
I dont know why she didnt become a big star like people like Debbie Gibson and Tiffany did a few years after her. (not to sound mean but maybe she wasnt "cute" enough?)

I remember Alisha, particularly All Night Passion and Too Turned On. After sampling Baby Talk on iTunes, I have a very vague recollection of that song, too.
Interestingly enough, I was reading an article in a magazine (maybe Blender?) about a year or two ago, and it was discussing the popularity of Freestyle music in the mid to late 80s. Singers/bands like Stacy Q, Sweet Sensation, Expose, Pajama Party, Regina, Company B, Stevie B, Cover Girls, and George Lamond were all mentioned. I had no idea that the freestyle craze was pretty much confined to the northeast section of the U.S. and some parts of Florida, like Miami. Some of the bigger acts, like Expose, Lisa Lis and Cult Jam, and TKA gained national attention, but a lot of the radio "hits" that I've come to know from those 80's summer pool parties are relatively unknown to most of the world. Weird.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Alisha's Do You Dream About Me from the Mannequin Soundtrack.
On the other hand, I don't think I ever heard Too Turned On..

It also blows my mind that most of the people who listened to Freestyle were from either New York or Florida! Why wasnt it big anywhere else (makes you wonder what the Hell the dance clubs in the other states played in the late 80s!)
My older sisters have never listened to Freestyle in their lives - I can play anything that i thought was popular in the 80s (CYNTHIA, TKA, CORO) and they will sit there blank-faced like its the first time they ever heard it. that makes me realize how quickly the fad came and went (although there is a station here in Nerw York that still mixes Old School Freestyle with the current Top 40 Dance hits.) There are a few random LISA LISA or STEVIE B songs they know, but thats about it. I think out of all the Fresstyle stars LISA LISA was probably the One That Made It Big. Probably because she had Top 40 hits and videos on MTV,

Well there was at least one person in PA listening to it ! HAHA! I love all of the songs you mentioned. "Baby Talk" was definitely on par with some of Madonna's early work and "Too Turned On" is a GREAT dance song!!
"Do You Dream About Me" from Mannequin is on my list of "Songs I'd Kill To Have A Clear Copy Of!" I'll never be that lucky!
