OK, been having some trouble identifying what I think is an 80's song, it has recently been used in a car commercial, it stars out with this kind of Rockabilly beat, then the singing starts and it goes "hold on tight to your dreams." It sounds like it's Jerry Lewis or even maybe John Fogerty. I'm stumped.

Oops, sorry guys, I just was told it's ELO. I didn't believe it at first. The song sounds nothing like their style, but I hear it now when the multi-tracked choruses come in.

That is true. The commercial did use ELO's "Hold On Tight". It's from their 1981 album "Time".
You are correct; the song sounds more rockabilly than their other stuff.
Two years later, ELO released another hit song called "Rock And Roll Is King", which was done in the same style.

Hmmm, maybe something was in the water, I felt the same way when I first heard Queen's Crazy Little Thing called love. Like a bunch of 70's group channeling their inner Elvis or something.
