...Or am I the only on who noticed that there are several annoying instances where pictures from the wrong movie appear on the cases, and menu's of the new DVD's? For example...the case for KK1 promintently uses a pic of Ralph from KK3 on the front...and shows him in front of the sun on the back, which is also from kk3. On the menu for KK2, there is a blatantly obvious pic from kk3. What gives? Do they think the hardcore fans that are buying this will not notice this s-h-i-t?

It's kind of insulting to wait and wait and spend money on a product that seems so thoughtlessly put together. Do they think that they can put any pic of Macchio, and Morita together on any cover and we'll buy it? Even photoshop a pic of the two from two different movies, as on the covr of KK1? Am I taking this too far lol? UGH [Mad] [Mad] [Confused] [Roll Eyes]

Claude, this is an outrage on so many 80s films that get special editions. They obviously put in charge "technical" people, as ooposed to people associated with the film, to make the dvds out. Friday the 13th's box set features a TON of wrong stills on the back of the cases. Police Academy as well. You'd figure in the board room they'd say, "Ok guys, anyone wanna volunteer for the Karate Kid SE?", and a few guys would jump at the chance. Instead it's farmed out to some group who just handles the transfers, new interviews, and the making of the packaging.

And not really a flub, but.....look at the KK II still shot on the back. You'll notice as Daniel is belting Chozen in the side, Kumiko is awake and watching it all LOL. An obvious promo shot done between takes [Smile] .

You would think that more thought would go into the packaging of so called "Collector's DVDs". I agree that most diehard fans will buy anything they release, but if you want to introduce a new generation to your movies, the packaging can really make a difference. Two movie that have done this very well in my opinion are Tombstone and Top Gun. I would buy them just by the packaging and the special features they included.

THe latest packaging designs for the James Bond collection did that with some of the covers for the DVD's.I believe it is OCTOPUSSY which clearly has an image of Roger Moore from MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN on its cover.Odd when you realise these two movies are 10 years apart.
What about box sets though? Do you think a collection should have an image from the 1st in the series of whatever it is,or a collection of images from all that is included in the set?
I noticed that a recent DIRTY HARRY box set had a publicity shot of Big Clint from THE DEAD POOL,which is easily the worst of all the HARRY movies.I think an image from the 1st DIRTY HARRY should have been used.Admittedly though it was a very good and moody image which clearly told a buyer this is a collection of movies about a tough cop.And i suppose its more to do with marketing than whats actually right.

I would prefer that boxed sets use a collection of images from whatever films are included within...granted, it becomes hard with series like James Bond because they include what like 6 or 7 films in each boxed set. But with films series of 3 or 4 it seems that they could at least photoshop a nice collage together of all the films.

I dunno, DVD in general i guess frustrates me, it seems that a lot of the headaches you encounter with DVD, didnt exist with VHS. There were no hassles and hurt feelings over which scenes/features they didn't include, there were no color correction issues, and rarely was a film released "umpteen" times because now its a "super be all-end all, deluxe, mega, ultimate edition".

I know this isn't true in every case, but i'm just saying that it seems DVD is becoming more of a headache when it is supposed to be this great, and satisfying technology. I just don't like to feel cheated or ripped off when I spend 15-20 bucks a movie, and 30-100's of dollars on boxed sets. These mistakes and oversights, and lack of care in the presentation should not even be concerns wen that much money is spent....even if they costed much less money, these things should not be factors. I'm sure no one likes to feel cheated though, so my rant is done... [Roll Eyes] [Big Grin]

I guess I'm not done...I guess what I'm saying just boils down to this, why can't every home video release of a film be treated as if it automatically were the "super be all-end all, deluxe, mega, ultimate edition"? Why can't the home video companies, and studios, just put the utmost care and thought, and quality into the release of every movie when it first comes out on video (DVD)?

This would actually save them money on having to go back in and gather more materials, conduct interviews etc. to do it a second or third time. I know the fans would be a lot happier to have to spend money only once on their fave movies, and even if it were some obscure, or unpopular title, someone would appreciate it.

A lot of people have/do consider The Karate Kid to be "obscure and unpopular". But it, along with many other films deserve the same care and attention that the home release for the ET's, and the Star Wars, and the Lord Of The Rings, and the Back To The Futures get. BTW I first saw Karate Kid on Beta LOL, and that was better than ALL of the nonsense that's come out since...well if DVD gets it's act together, that would be the best but until then....

Plus, DVDs skip and scratch too easily, no matter how good you take care of them. Or they glitch up and freeze...never a problem with VHS.

Claude, it's all about money. They wanna see who's gullible enough to keep buying each edition over and over. They're mining one movie for all it's worth. Like the recent Stand By Me Ultimate or whatever edition....it's the same one as the collectors edition! They think we're dumb.

Even when all the Friday the 13ths finally came out in half-Special Edition form last year, I sold off all my bare bones ones and THEN bought the box set. They know there's purists out there who'll go "Well, I want the original dvd release AND the souped-up box set for my shelf", and end up suckering a person for hundreds of bucks.
