received my blu ray dvd combo of dolph lundgrens joshua tree last week and must say the blu ray copy looks awesome, picture is very sharp and it's in its widescreen ratio for the first time, the 5.1 dts hd audio was very lively to the point i had to crank the sound down a bit from my normal volume settings as not to annoy my neighbours too much.
picked this up for £11 uk pounds and 89 pence .
Posted by the young warrior (Member # 9554) on :
also won this from ebay a couple of days back for £1 pound and 68 pence, not received it as yet, never seen it before either, but i like piven and i think sherilyn fenn is not only beautiful but a pretty good actress also.
heard good things on this one prior to purchasing so i thought at that price it was worth a punt.

I love Sherilyn and she looks amazing on that poster. I may have to get this one...
Posted by the young warrior (Member # 9554) on :
when i get round to watching it atomik i'll let you know my thoughts on it,i've heard it's pretty good and it was released on a budget dvd so you can pick it up reasonably cheap.
as part of the amazon uk 3 blu rays for £17 pounds i got escape from l.a,lot of people diss this movie but even though i agree it's not a patch(no pun intended) on the first one it's still a lot of fun.

Just bought Pure Luck (1991) and Beyond the Law (1992)
Posted by the young warrior (Member # 9554) on :
Beyond the law is great atomik, well worth adding to the collection, never seen pure luck but I'm sure I've seen a clip of it some time back. Is it the one where martin short has an allergic reaction reaction to bee stings and his face balloons out.
Posted by Lovers with Cassie (Member # 7794) on :
I have checked Wikipedia and then the IMDb entry of Pure Luck for you, the young warrior, and I can tell you that this is indeed that film.
Posted by Spreadking (Member # 7280) on :
Found Kill Cruise and Bad Influence on DVD for $1 each at Hastings. Two films that were on my want list that I had seen before and like lots. Got Triplecross on DVD from Amazon for 1 cent plus s&h. Triplecross is a somewhat erotic wannabe thriller starring Michael Pare, Billy Dee Williams, and Ashley Laurence(from Hellraiser). Need to watch it still.

Not seen either of the other 2 spreadking but bad influence is a really cool thriller and an absolute bargain on DVD for a $1.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

Bad Influence is indeed a great film, sadly the UK dvd is cut 28 seconds. Never seen Kill Cruise or Triplecross, nice tips Spreadking!

A 16 year old girl takes up with a charming young man who quickly shows his colors when he beats a friend simply for walking with her and then goes totally ballistic after she tries to break up with him. -- IMDb

I really liked fear j2me,i thought it was a great little thriller, the end in particular where the gang target the house I thought was excellent, very tense stuff.
Great Seattle locations,a good soundtrack, the track wild horses that plays while there on the rollercoaster, can't remember who its by,but it's a good song.
Wahlberg makes for quite a convincing bad guy, Reese Witherspoon and Alyssa milano are not only beautiful there also pretty decent actresses.
And Not forgetting the great William Peterson (to live and die in l.a)and Amy brenneman (daylight) as the parents and what was the last ever on screen appearance from gary Riley (summer school),not sure whatever became of him?
a great little movie that also looks great on the blu ray format,I rented the blu ray out,but I do own it on DVD,the differences between the 2 are easily noticeable, the blu ray is quite an upgrade in quality.

just got my blu ray come through of joel schumacher's flatliners(1990),i already have it on dvd but as it's one of my favourites from the 90s i decided to upgrade to the blu, plus the fact it was selling for a reasonable price, imported from the states for just a bit over £6 which i don't think is bad when you take into account postage costs.
checked the picture out and there is a noticable improvement in picture quality, nothing vast but it is there and the sound i thought was a definite improvement, has 5.1 lcpm soundtrack,no extras, not even a trailer like the dvd had which i think is very poor.

I was hoping to say I just got a like new copy of die hard 2 on blu ray of eBay for just 99 pence plus postage, but I put my bid in with less than 20 minutes to go and for some crazy reason I'd thought I'd take a quick power nap and check back just before bidding closes to see if I needed to up my bid.
OK I might have lost it anyway but I reckon it would have helped if I woke up on time and it probably would have helped also if I weren't such a cheapskate and just matched the opening 99 pence asking price,I lost it by the matter of a few pennies.
can't win em all I suppose.
Posted by the young warrior (Member # 9554) on :
Just was thinking what year die hard 2 came out and it was in 1990,same year as flatliners what I just got on blu ray,I thought to myself from recollection that seemed a pretty good year for movie releases so I checked on imdb what else came out that year and it does seem like it was a pretty cool year overall as there's some really good stuff listed.
The Adventures Of Ford Fairlane is also from 1990. What a movie, hell yeah !
Posted by the young warrior (Member # 9554) on :
Yeh I really like the adventures of ford fairlane,I've got the region 1 DVD of it,great film,I've just spotted another personal favourite amongst that list - Miami blues with Alec baldwin ,Fred ward and Jennifer Jason leigh.

Upgraded my King Of New York region 1 dvd from Lionsgate to this new Arrow blu-ray / dvd combopack.
Lots of toughguy actors in supporting roles, including Victor Argo, Paul Calderon and Frank Gio among a cast which also includes Wesley Snipes, David Caruso, Laurence Fishburne and Steve Buscemi. But this is of course Christopher Walken's show all te way, delivering a powerhouse performance !
Great bonus features, some ported over from previous editions and some new ones, including two commentary tracks, 50 minutes of interviews with director Abel Ferrara and the producer , promotional material, and best of all, two featurettes / documentaries about Abel Ferrara's career as a filmmaker (one 80 minutes, the other 50 minutes)!

Abel ferrara's - The burger king of new York of new York starring Chris walken and Ronald McDonald, that I do have to see!

Just bought Terminal Bliss (1992) Anyone seen it?
Posted by Johnny Roarke is reckless (Member # 9826) on :
Back when he had the right age, someone should have come up with the idea to cast Luke Perry as James Dean in some sort of biopic. I think he really had the right looks for a role like that.
Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :
Definitely! I wonder why he didn´t do any movies back in the 80s. He appeared in a few tv-series but not in films.
Posted by the young warrior (Member # 9554) on :
That was pretty good the one he done with Ashley Judd - normal life from 1996,never seen terminal bliss though.

I could never get into anything made by David Lynch apart from The Elephant Man. Perhaps I am missing something but when I watch something of his I am always left with the feeling of, what the hell was that about? I really do love the theme music for Twin Peaks - it's very good!

He basically played James Dean in 90210. He even drove a Porsche and drove it off a cliff in one episode. I mean, come on! His character was way too complex for a kid going to high school too. I loved the show but his character was unrealistic. I think that Luke Perry should have done better though. He was/is a good actor.
Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :
Mr. Wonderful, with Matt Dillon, Annabella Sciorra and Mary Louise Parker. Picked this up at a thrift store in my hometown. I liked this movie way back when it came out, even though I am not a romantic movie lover. I've always liked Matt Dillon and Annabella Sciorra, so that must be why I liked this movie. Plus Annabella still has 80's hair in this flick! It's not the best, but it's like able. Mary Louise Parker's character was not very likable to me though. I did like her in the tv series Weeds.
