This thread is actually inspired by jenz7's posting about it earlier today...

 -

"So, Okay, you're probably like - what is this, a Noxzema commercial?"

These were the first words from Cher at the beginning of "Clueless" that set the tone perfectly.  No not the Cher who won the Oscar... but Cher the heroine of this wickedly hilarious movie. A little later, she explains that she and her friend Dionne "were both named after great singers of the past that now do infomercials."  So silly as I read it again, but also brilliant at the same time.

 -

"Clueless" is a smart and funny movie that had humor like so many of the 80's flicks we all love.  I believe a major reason why is because "Clueless" was both written and directed by Amy Heckerling that also directed the 80's classic "Fast Times At Ridgemont High".  Similar to "Fast Times" in the 80's, "Clueless" connected with teens from that decade as well.

 -

The cast was a great mixture of young actors and actresses that have since gone on to various degrees of success... Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, Elisa Donovan, Breckin Meyer, Justin Walker, and Jeremy Sisto.

"Searching for a boy in high school is as useless as searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie."

 -

So many people focus on Cher as the star of "Clueless".. as if.. for me the real star of the movie was Justin Walker who played Christian.  He was so quirky awesome and Walker is the one cast member that I just can't figure out why he didn't go on to bigger roles.

Some excellent Christian quotes that I use on occasion:

"Nice Stems!"
"Hey man, protective vibe, I dig."

Also, I've always been a Breckin Meyer fan because of this movie and this scene in particular:

"I would like to say this. Tardiness is not something you can do on your own. Many, many people contributed to my tardiness. I would like to thank my parents for never giving me a ride to school, the LA city bus driver who took a chance on an unknown kid and last but not least, the wonderful crew from McDonalds who spend hours making those egg McMuffins without which I'd never be tardy."

I actually haven't watched "Clueless" in awhile, but the minute jenz7 mentioned it .. this thread was a way better idea than making a cameo at a Val party.

I love Clueless so much!!

Oh Josh how much I crushed on you....
 -

Rudd what a dreamboat!

I just wrote not long ago on the Siskel and Ebert thread that they both gave this movie two thumbs up.......and couldn't say enough good things about it.

It's so well written....well cast......and really is an exaggerated look at the lives of those teens......and Cher is such a lovable character who plays so daft but really is far from it!

To be honest I even loved the TV show [Big Grin]

It's actually pretty cool that so many of the stars went on to the tv show.....I think thats why I loved it.

muffy i am with you on the paul rudd thing. i think he's dreamy in this movie, as well. [Smile]

i bought this movie a few months back to show to my daughter. i had hoped she would have liked it, but i think she will like it better, in a few years or so hehe. it came in a 2 pack with Mean Girls, for like 5 dollars.

thanks for the link, i think i may have watched that mtv beach party premiere. i remember daisy fuentas as one of the vj's..i was always watching MTV in those days. then i remember all the girls going to school that fall, with shirts that had the clueless logo.

didn't this movie start the whole, school girl outfits with the thigh-high leggings?

My sister and I use to quote the crap out of this movie back in ye olde' 90's!

Many an argument has been settled with one of us uttering the phrase "That was way harsh, Tai", followed by laughter, and hugs all around. Actually that laughter and hug part is not true, but it sounded good [Smile]

We watched this movie in my sophomore English class because of how 'smart and clever' the dialogue was. "Beavis and Butthead" are way existential." [Smile]

Remember the spin off TV series?

I think it was Ren And Stimpy...

As a teen, I saw this in the theater with my best friend and we loved it. I don't go gaga for it anymore, but still place it high on the list of good 90s movies. I just don't get that nostalgic feeling for the 90s like I do for the 80s.

i second that. i payed more attention to the music in the 90s more than the movies.

i remember the tv show...didn't it have the whole cast except for alicia and paul?

Muffy .. I finally watched the "Clueless" beach party clip. Henry Thomas seemed so thrilled to be there.

Henry gave me a Skip tip on this clip..

Devolution here,

Cher, I couldn't have been any prouder of you if they were real grades.

If you don't bring her home, I have a Shotgun and a shovel, no one will miss you.

The dad had some of the best lines. It ranks in my top 5 movies about being a teenager in the 90's Can't Hardly Wait wins by a landslide.

WE are DEVO

So I was watching/listening to the finals of the X-Factor tonight and I kept thinking .. I know this Josh guy from somewhere .. ok .. not him but apparently his voice.

Then it hit me and I realized he sounded just like Elton from "Clueless" .. should have gone with "Rollin' With My Homies" as his signature tune in retrospect.

 - (click for imdb page)

Anyone else interested in seeing what this is all about?

Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :

Ha! Josh does sound like "El'n." [Big Grin]

Thanks for posting the link to the imdb page for that movie Val.. I am interested. [Smile] Amy Heckerling wrote and is directing this?... looks like she jumped on the vampire bandwagon too hm?

Ripley's gonna be in it, woo!

Clueless is not among my favorite 90's teen movies, or any era teen movie for that matter.

I actually kinda hate the movie...doesn't even rank in my top 20 teen movies.

I guess it was supposed to be funny with over-the-top high class Valley characters...but honestly, I didn't laugh at all when watching this one.

Anyone dig the soundtrack for the movie? I remember borrowing it from a relative, because I liked the cover of 'Kids In America' by The Muffs, which was the opening track... and I like Mighty Mighty Bosstones who were also in the movie singing their song, 'Where'd You Go?' - http://youtu.be/20d9ySlkihI

And of course the song 'Tenderness' by General Public, was a great way to end the movie. [Smile]

And Val, I know this is the Rollin' With My Homies edition, but they can keep the Coolio song.. and Elton's dancing too! [Eek!]

Watched Clueless yesterday and it was the first time i saw the film.
I liked it a lot which was no surprise because the movie was written and directed by Amy Heckerling.

Cool cast (Stacey Dash - WOW [Cool] ), great fashion, some funny jokes and nice extramaterial on the "Whatever" editon dvd.

Just like Secret Admirer pointed, the only thing that did bother me was the soundtrack.

Now i need to re-watch Johnny Dangerously.

Johnny Dangerously is a classic!
