What movies from the 90's have that 80's feel to them for you? There is always the debate that actually movies from the 1990 should be considered 80's because several were filmed in 1989.. or others say that the true decade was 1981 to 1990..
But don't limit your thoughts to just 1990.. which 90's movies have that 80's hangover effect?

I say this alot....I have lots of honorary 80's movies one of my favs is:
Mermaids 1990
I might get "stoned" haha for this one but I never loved Dazed and Confused and to me feels so 90's because it was so full of 90's moviestars.

I have to say, I don't find 'Dazed and Confused' to feel 80's at all. Mainly because it conforms to the 90's trend of deifying the 70's as the greatest era in music, and because it feels exactly like the navel-gazing Indie movies of the time like 'Reality Bites'. I love it, but everything about it feels post-80's, rather than 80's-hangover.

Huge fan of Toy Soldiers, Kuffs, Career Opportunities (can we get a Devo comment?), and Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead.
And "Mermaids" definitely qualifies with the bonus of a Michael Schoeffling sighting!

It's a great movie. If you asked Richard Linklater what his preferred decade was, 70's or 80's... we know what he'd say. It's a 'slacker' movie. File alongside 'Singles' and 'Reality Bites' while listening to Pearl Jam.

I almost mentioned Encino "California" Man myself. It has a certain 90s vibe (maybe itīs the actors) but itīs also very 80s.
The soundtrack rocks, especially the Vince Neil tune "You're Invited (But Your Friend Can't Come)"

For me I consider 8 DAYS A WEEK an 80s movie even though its a 90s movie. It just has that teen boy dessperate to get laid (I can so imagine him played by someone like Jon Cryer) main charactor who just seems SO 80s to me.

I love that we have a fan base for Zapped Again it usually gets dogged because people love the original..... it's so 80's for just the theme song alone.....

Where the day takes you Fantastic movie and has everybody whos anybody in it. It definately hs an 80s feel to it plus a good soundtrak which accompanys any good 80s movie

There were a lot of movies that could be mistaken, I loved Ford Fairlane too, but I think the biggest reason was that Cradle of Love video. Also to be added to that people in the video that are in the movie list.

EIGHT DAYS A WEEK (1997):
Just watched this one again recently after not having seen it in awhile. It's a good funny teen comedy. And it's definitely a throwback to teen movies of the 80's considering some of it's content is obviously directly influenced by them. A couple movies that came to mind while I watched this were "Say Anything" and "Pretty in Pink." But it's not a bad movie because of this, it is quite good actually if you don't mind slightly perverted teen comedies. I especially like the grandfather and Catherine Hicks as the horny middle-aged widow. But almost all the characters are very funny in their own way. Anyway, if you have't seen this, you should check it out.

I've been watching lots of early 90's movies this week.......ones i've never seen........better then the new 2000's movies i've seen lately in all honesty, so when I run out of 80's movies to hunt down.......early 90's it will be!

Hey, how do you quote lines from other posts here? Anyway, in response to that Logan comment, yes teen movies had run their course by the end of the '80s. I kind of felt bad about that because I really loved most of the ones that came out back then, not so much the ones that came later though, just some, but that's the point I wanted to add. By the end of the '90s, all of a sudden, it seems like teen movies started to make a comeback e.g. Can't Harldy Wait, 10 Things I Hate About You, She's All That and they've been getting produced again ever since. With all the horror, comedy and drama remakes these days, I'm surprised there have been no teen movie remakes and glad too. There's plenty of new ones anyway.

The teen movies that came out in the 90's had a more knowing, cynical quality to them. It was like, "Hey, we're doing a teen movie." Whereas, in the 80's it was more, "Hey, we're doing a movie for young people." The teen movies that came later were drawing on (and referencing) the conventions that had been laid down before, but the previous teen movies that had laid down those conventions originally did so without even realising it.
I agree that some of the later movies were great. And I've said it before, but I'll say it again: 'Heathers' was to the teen movie what 'Airplane' was to the disaster movie - the final nail in the coffin.
