I can't believe that nobody, me included, has mentioned Groundhog Day
Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :
I was going to mention it (of course)...but it actually is not one of my favorite movies (even though it seems like it should be),,,since I grew up in Punxsutawney....(the town the movie is based on)....that's where all my childhood memories come from...from living in the land of the Groundhog. They really did recreate the town well....they even mention the street my Grandpa lived on. The real hotel that they based the hotel that the crew stays in...is the place I went to for dinner after the Prom. It has a restaurant on the roof of the hotel. It's called "The Rooftop". That's where I spent my Prom night. I was there for my 10 year class reunion too. The movie was actually filmed in Woodstock, Illinois though.
Bill Murray and Harold Ramis actually came to Punxsy and they stayed in that same hotel ...when they were doing research for the movie.
My sister-in-law has painted several of the "Phantastic Phils" in the town...they are completely over ridden with giant Ground Hogs. They have become a tourist attraction now.
Here's 2 out of the 3 my sister in law did:

Oh don't worry. Lots of people love it but it doesn't leap to mind right away in these situations. It's my favourite movie of the 90's for a million reasons but mainly two.. Johnny and Martin Landeau's amazing chemistry, and Tim Burton's wonderful take on Hollywood 1950's style..

Yeah, I cannot really dissect it, why I love it so much etc. I just think its got the best opening scene of any film ever, one of the best endings of any movie ever as well, one of the best movie soundtracks ever (maybe the best), I love how it was shot with sometimes regular and sometimes docu and mixes in animation, sometimes black and white, throws in advertisements now and then and it could have been a complete mess but its done so brilliantly, genius. The scenery, filming locations all amazing.
I just could not praise this film enough. Ive watched it so many times but have never get tired of watching it.
