Here in Good Ol' Great britain, they are currently showing a series of films that were banned...in the imaginativly titled 'banned season'. The film on wednesday was showgirls and yes I did catch most of it, and yes I have seen it a coupla times before.
I always find myself totally intrigued by how terrible this film is, and therefore find it neccessary to watch it to see if it still is as bad as I remember.
The acting (by miss saved by the bell) is atrocious...but funny...it really is...the way she launches her lines at the rest of the cast before running off in a strop makes me laugh every time, and that swimming pool sex scene...far from being titilating...is pee your pants hilarious!! Not to mention the 'im on my period...check' scene...eeeeeeeew...both pointless and grosse.
However, i cant help liking it...for its crapness...its car crash cinema at its best, almost like its sposed to be funny. From the gratuitous boobs...(seriously what hotel has constant different topless dance reviews) to the classic lines such as...'you look better than a 10 inch ****'...this film needed to be brought up.
What do you think??

Your hillarouis EAngel! To be honest i've never seen all of it in one sitting. But it sure has a way of drawing you in when it's on. I know what you mean.
What's funny is now I so wanna watch it again...But i'm gonna have to wait for a TV viewing cause there's no way i'm renting Showgirls at the video store....that would so give away my "indie movie watcher" apperance i'm putting out there.....

It's like watching a really well made feature-length episode of a really badly written soap opera.
It's a must see. One of those "this is how you don't do it" type of films.

I have seen Showgirls, having rented it from Roundabout Video when I was living in Bendigo.
It is true that it is atrocious, but I still had no problems watching it.

I can usually only bring myself to watching about a quarter of this whenever it's being shown. It just bores me right to sleep. Only reason I ever saw this crapfest to begin with is due to all the buzz around the NC-17 rating it got for it's theatre release. Then when I finally did see it, I was disappointed. I've seen plain R Rated movies with more controversial content than this. And better written material too. So yeah, not a film I think is ever going to make it into my film collection.
