I bought Cry Baby recently and watched it last night. Like most John Waters movies, it was totally out there. I did enjoy it though [Smile] ! The cast was so diverse (Traci Lords, Ricki Lake and Johnny Depp) yet there was a cohesiveness that made it work.

I liked how the Cry Baby gang gave Allison a "bad girl" makeover. Johnny Depp was great during the musical numbers and the "kissing scene" wasn't so shabby either...whoo-hoo [Razz] ! Overall, it was cool [Cool] ! So what did you guys think?

"You've got it Allison, you've got it RAW!"

That is what I think of Johnny in this film. I love this too Cindy, but then I'm a total sucker for all things Depp. [Wink]

I like Johnny Depp, but this is not one of his best. Although it is better than Ed Wood.......that was totally weird.

OH and Ricki Lake sure does look different in this movie.....

Hey Earth Angel, I'm all about Depp too these days. Man, he just keeps getting better with age [Smile] .

Jules, I watched Ed Wood for the first time this weekend and yes, it was just plain weird. I liked Patricia Arquette's character. She was sweet but Johnny's acting was outstanding. It's amazing how he just becomes the role. I saw him on the Bravo channel on the Studio Actor's Guild. He said his portrayal of Ed Wood was a combination of the blind optimism of Ronald Reagan and the emotion of the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz. I totally got that while watching it. Unreal.

I know the Muffster loves this movie too! (I did like it, but preferred 'Hairspray' and 'Serial Mom' to be honest)

Maybe having the Depp starring in it has something to do with its cult following, and evergrowing female fanbase!

As for 'Ed Wood,' I never really liked it much either. I absolutely love Tim Burton's work, (minus a few mishaps) and I just found it slightly.... blah! The critics praised it highly, so maybe I was expecting a lot more.

Yeah Grems, I agree most of Tim Burton's work is excellent but Planet of the Apes was a disaster.

I love Cry Baby. Yeah you know me Grems. [Big Grin]

I just love John Waters! It's such a great paraody of 50's style. I love the music and costumes.......the humor. Johnny's nice also.

I just watched both Ed Wood and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas recently......both show how talented Johnny is and what a great character study he is. But i'll agree both movies lack something....and i've actually seen them both before, haha [Big Grin]

I have never seen this movie all the way through only parts here and there, John Waters is one of those directors who is great to interview (like a camp Vincent Price) but I have never been a big fan of his work (though I did quite like ‘Cecil B. Demented’, which, understandably most Water’s fans seemed to hate).

I liked Tim Burton's take on ‘Ed Wood’ I remember watching it in the early hours not quite knowing what to expect (other than weirdness, of course): Any film that gets Johnny Depp to espouse the virtues of Angora sweaters and has Bill Murray in it as well, has got my vote.

Kudos to Muffy for mentioning 'Fear And Loathing In Las vegas'probably my favourite Depp film of all time (next to 'Donnie Brasco' and perhaps even 'Edward Scissorhands'). This was a classic blend of surreal humour, engaging poignancy and a tribute to gonzo journalism.
