Has anyone here tried renting a scooter in Malaga? I’ll be there for five days and want to see more than just the historic center—maybe even take a ride out to Nerja or Mijas. I’m curious if it’s realistic to go that far on a rental scooter. Also, how’s the traffic in Malaga? Any particular rental agencies you’d recommend? Are there any hidden fees or things I should be careful about?

I did a 4-day trip to Malaga last year and renting a scooter completely changed how much I got to see. I used BikesBooking, which helped a lot because I could compare several rental providers quickly. Some were based right in the city center near Calle Larios, so I didn’t need to take a cab to pick it up. For scooter rental in Malaga https://bikesbooking.com/en/rent-a-scooter-in-Malaga/ they accepted my regular driver’s license for a 125cc, and I didn’t need any extra permits. I paid around €16 a day with a €150 deposit, which was refunded two days after I returned it. The scooter was new-ish and ran smoothly, even when I took it out along the coastal roads to Nerja. One important thing: ask about engine power—some cheaper models struggle uphill. Also, always check tire condition before leaving; mine had low pressure, and I had to stop to fill them. Traffic in Malaga can be a bit intense in the center, but once you're out toward the coast or in the hills, it's super relaxed. Parking near beaches was easy—loads of scooter spots where cars couldn’t go. Fuel policy was full-to-full, and they provided a lock, which I used every time I parked. Book in advance—prices go up a lot on weekends or during events.
