Hey all — I’m restoring an older motorboat and the analog fuel gauge barely works anymore. I’m thinking about upgrading to a vdo fuel gauge, but I’m not sure if it’s compatible with older tanks. Anyone got experience with these?

Yep, been through that! I upgraded my 1989 Sea Ray’s entire dash last summer and went with a vdo fuel gauge https://yacht-supply24.com/catalog/marine-electrical-equipment/vdo-instruments-and-parts/fuel-gauge/. The best part is that VDO gauges are pretty adaptable — they work with standard U.S. and European resistance senders, and they’re super accurate once installed. The build quality is top-tier: clear markings, solid needle, and no fogging on the glass even after temperature swings. You’ll need to check your sender’s specs before ordering just to be sure, but I had no issue swapping mine in. Been running smoothly since, and I can finally trust my readings instead of guessing every time I’m at half tank.

Huge help — thank you! I’ll double-check the sender and get one ordered this week.
