Just watched it for the first time last night. It was fantastic...way better than the remake. I have been trying to watch older classic movies, instead of newer movies.

I love the remake too but the original is something special. Robert Mitchum is an extraordinary actor.

Have you seen The Hustler? It's 1961 with Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason. George C. Scott is also in it. I only mention it because of the similar time period.

No, I have never seen it, but I have been going backwards in time with movies, since all new movies stink so bad, so I have been watching older movies alot lately. They are so much better than anything done today.
