Caught this earlier this evening on Fox Movie Channel, and I must say it pulled me in and kept me there. It's not often a film that mixes so many genres can work well, but this one does. Love DePalma's production design making the film seem like one long, bizarre (but good) nightmare. Liked the cross-dresser's on-stage electrocution the best, an ingenious stunt heightened by the amusing look on his face as he takes in the juice.

A year before 'Frankenstein' met 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' in musical form (Rocky Horror), 'Phantom of the Opera' met 'Faust' in musical form. Love it, but I love the Paul Williams score (he played 'Swan') even more than the movie itself.

Rewatched Phantom and i love this more everytime i watch it.
The cast is perfect even though they changed roles few times before shooting. Jessica Harper is so cute and she can sing too! The Paul Williams penned musical numbers are fantastic and the music industry critique is spot on, the contract even disallows artistīs suicide
The pace is fast and i love the settings and cinematography. Too bad that the box office wasnīt what they wanted and then there was the problems with Swan Records, Phantom comic book publishers and whatnot...
The Arrow release includes great french documentary including all the main characters. Love the film, so unique and special. I want to watch it again right away!

Phantom is one of DePalma's best, most underrated films. It's just terrific. Perhaps what I say is heresy, but this film should have had the success and longevity that The Rocky Horror Picture Show had. It's a better film. Paul Williams, William Finley, Gerrit Graham, and Jessica Harper are fantastic.

"Phantom of the Paradise" (1974) is an amazing film. I recently re-watched this on Blu - incredible.
This is a great rock opera/revenge fantasy re-telling of the "Faust" storyline & "Phantom of the Opera"! I enjoyed the various incarnations of the "Juicy Fruits", .i.e. '50's rock, beach rock, '70's glam rock, etc. and thought the transition(s) were very well done (this actually reminded me of the various incarnations of the band Spinal Tap in that 1984 film, though of course Phantom pre-dated this by 10 years).
The actress Jessica Harper did a great job playing "Phoenix" - and though I usually don't like soft rock, I liked her vocals when she sung - superb voice.

Well, they say that it was her. Anyone seen Jim Sharman Rocky Horror Picture Show sequel Shock Treatment (1981)? Havenīt seen it myself but i believe that she sings also in that one. Anyone recall if it was similiar voice?
