Because I've seen all the 80s Horror flicks, most of the 90s ones and (lets face it, most of the '00 ones are CRAP!) I have decided to rent/buy older ones (60s & 70s). This one eas featured on BRAVO'S 100 SCARIEST MOVIES (Or was it 101? I forget). Anyone seen it?

The Sentinel was good. It was about this woman who lived in an apartment building that was like the gateway to hell or something. There was a priest who sat at a window all day and all night, kinda like a guard. It was scary without being gory.

i read in fangoria, or some other magazine of similar reliability, that the shooting of the sentinel was plagued with weird paranormal episodes. i THINK it was the sentinel... did anybody else ever hear about this? equipment catching fire, cast members myseriously getting ill, that sort of thing.

The Sentinel (1977) was very good late 70´s horror film directed by Michael Winner starring Christina Raines and Chris "Fright Night" Sarandon. The awesome cast includes also old school members like Burgess Meredith, Ava Gardner and Eli Wallach mixed with up and coming stars like Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum, Beverly D´Angelo, Deborah Raffin and Tom Berenger in small roles.
Lots of disturbing scenes (what an earth did i just see you do, Beverly! ), chilling atmosphere and great ending. Recommended!

the sentinel is great i have the dvd,not seen it for a while but can remember it was pretty freaky and that it had a really great cast.
i can also remember michael winner got in a bit of hot water over using real life deformed people for the movies climax as many found it very distasteful!
i need to grab it of the shelf at some time to give it another watch,though i do remember quite a bit from it actually thinking about it.
have you seen michael winner's 1984 thriller scream for help atomik,if not you need to check it out as i consider it a real 80s trash classic,it's completely bonkers but a total blast!

Yeah, he used real life deformed people and Christina Raines has said that she cried while she was driving to work during the making of this movie. Michael Winner must have been one tough SOB

I read somewhere that even Bronson who had worked with winner numerous times before had had more than enough of him by the time death wish 3 had finished shooting and that he would never work with him again.
I know we are only guessing on this but I bet he (winner) was hard work to get along with in real life!

The Sentinel is an amazing horror film. Though I'm a big fan of '80's movies (obviously), I still strongly feel that the best horror flicks came out in the '70's - hands down. Extremely creepy film that plays on a lot of fears of urban dwellers - i.e., we don't know who our neighbors are (in many cases) and have no idea what's going on behind closed doors....
I saw The Sentinel for the first time as an adult (about 4-5 years ago), and that ending scene especially creeped me out - quite grotesque, especially since many of the monsters/creatures had horrible deformities...quite disturbing...
It's interesting that this movie was referenced in a great '80's comedy, The 'Burbs
