I saw this movie on vhs for $25. Is it worth it? I've never seen it.

Did a DVD version of this movie just came out recently? I've seen VHS versions on the shelves, but not a DVD, unless they're working on it.
Anyway, I saw it only once, in the theaters. Nothing special, but might be worth a rental. It's a silly movie that focuses on the various people before they spend a night at a disco in Los Angeles.
It came out (1978) at a time when disco was the biggest fad, and only one year after "Saturday Night Fever" was released. But SNF was an urban drama, and TGIF is a silly comedy, so there's no use in comparing the two.
But it's interesting to see it now for the first time, if only because you get a chance to see the early career performances of Jeff Goldblum, Debra Winger, and Terri Nunn (who later became the lead singer for the group, Berlin).
(WARNING): To parents who want to watch this movie with their kids, there are drug references in this, mostly pill-popping. Doesn't seem like much compared to today, but it might be of some concern to parents.
Donna Summer's song "Last Dance" won the Academy Award for Best Song in its year.
TRIVIA: The opening logo of the Columbia Studios' "Torch Lady" symbol does a dance step when the music starts!

Oh it is absolutely worth it. I watched it a long time ago. I got reintroduced to it right after I had my son and was up for a 1 a.m. feeding. It stars Jeff Goldblum--pre buff era, Debra Winger--pre Urban Cowboy and Terms of Endearment era, and Donna Summer--at the top of her music career. It also starred the Lead singer of Berlin--Terri Nunn. She plays the role where her friend and her sneak into the disco to try and enter the dance contest so that they can win enough money to get Kiss concert tickets.
If this was available on DVD I would be snatching it up immediately. It really is a film that epitomized the disco era of the late 70s!
