The Monster Club (1981) - I don't know if I was just in a grumpy mood years ago when I gave this a 6/10 or maybe I'm just buzzing off the fact that it's the start of October and I have my room full of Halloween stuff, light up ghost in the window, feeling super cosy. But I had a blast with this today. I particularly loved the final tale. The first 2 and the wraparound are enjoyable high camp but the final one is proper spooky. I'd have just maybe liked the song parts in the wrap to be a bit shorter but otherwise great stuff and a wonderful cast. 8/10
Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark (2019) - Enjoyed this rewatch. While the stories aren't the greatest and it's more for teens it just has this great feel to it and wonderful Halloween atmosphere. 7/10

Scream VI (2023)
Scream V was super bad and this is not much better. Stupid characters running around, meta this and meta that plus knives canīt do any damage if people have plot armour. And acces media raved about the film, donīt understand. 3/10
The Exorcist (1973)
Now this is a classic. I know that for example Helen donīt rate The Exorcist very high but i still enjoy this church vs. devil story. Of course itīs not that scary anymore but this is just fantastic cinema (directing, cast, locations, atmosphere, sfx etc.) and damn those hospital scenes are nasty. 9/10
Rogue aka Territory (2007)
Rogue was a pretty decent creature feature set in Northern Territory Australia. Nothing earth shattering on offer here but especially the end battle is very effective. 6/10

That Scream 6 was sooooooo boring!
Fright Fest (2018) - Gave this another go just cos it's set at Halloween and in a haunted attraction. I did like it a little more but again I lose interest in the last 30 mins or so. 6/10

Fragment Of Fear (1970) - Decent murder mystery. David Hemmings was so good, made me feel all the stress, especially the last half hour. I didn't really get the ending but I didn't need to, I just liked the oddness. 7/10
Equus (1977) - I saw this film about 15 years ago and have never been quite the same since haha. So when I saw it was on TV I thought I would "treat" my hubby to the same thing muahaha. Although disturbingly he didn't look as disturbed as I was first go. You can't tell me this isn't horror. 9/10
Pumpkin Moon (2005) (Short) - That was bloody adorable. Can see myself watching it every year now. 9/10
Invitation To Hell (1984) - The most boring Wes Craven film. 3/10
And a couple of fun shorts: Make Me A Sandwich (2019) - 7/10 and Close Before Midnight (2015) - 7/10

TERRIFIER (2016)
Finally got around to seeing this one for the first time the other day. Yeah, lots of hype on this one kinda left me no choice. And my verdict...Meh, it's ok. I can see how this would be really scary to horror movie rookies. But for seasoned (de-sensitized) horror movie watchers like myself. It's nothing really special. Just another mindless gore porn flick, But if you're into that, then you'd probably enjoy this more than I did. Oh, and that Art the Clown character...Overrated. Didn't really find him scary at all.
Overall, I'll give this 4 dumb horror movie bitches out of 10

Bad Taste (1987)
Peter Jacksonīs no budget debut is superfun comedy horror film. 4 years in the making and the rest is history. Check out also the informative documentary Good Taste Made Bad Taste. 8/10
The Legend of Hell House (1973)
This was a pretty good British haunted house horror film based on Richard Mathesonīs (I Am Legend, The Shrinking Man) Hell House book. Very nice sfx so iīm sure back in ī73 this must have been a nail biting experience. 6/10
Possessor (2020)
Excellent mystery sci-fi horror thriller from Brandon Cronenberg. I already enjoyed his debut Antiviral and this is another gem. Cool plot including very violent murder scenes and you gotta love the practical effects. 8/10

Thanks for all the info on these horror flicks! And running this thread every horror season Helen. I have nothing to offer. Was wondering if anyone has seen the House That Dreaded Sundown if so, would you recommend it?
Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :
I highly recommend the original 1976 The Town That Dreaded Sundown (i believe that is what you meant). The only thing that i didnīt like in the film was the comedic cops. The 2014 remake/sequel is ok but nowhere near the original film.

Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977)
Interesting but flawed sequel directed by John Boorman. Linda Blair looks amazing but thereīs too many laughable scenes so you canīt take this one seriously. 5/10
Nekromantik (1987)
Jörg Buttgereitīs no budget cult film left me a bit cold I respect the idea and effort but maybe it was a bit too artsy for me. the history of the movie is more interesting that the film itself. 5/10
Tucke & Dale vs. Evil (2010)
This was a pretty fun horror comedy, especially the first 45 mins works very well. Bunch of teens are camping in western Virginia and they are sure that hillbilly couple Tucker & Dale are serial killers. That is not the truth at all but accidents happen. 6/10

Il tuo vizio č una stanza chiusa e solo io ne ho la chiave aka Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key (1972)
Good giallo from Sergio Martino. Nice cast (Luigi Pistilli, Anita Strindberg and goddess Edwige Fenech), cool story based on Edgar Allan Poeīs The Black Cat and some twisits in the end. 7/10
Antichrist (2010)
This was a strong horror drama from Lars von Trier. Very downbeat atmosphere and daring roles from Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Definitely not for everyone. 8/10
Galaxy of Terror (1981)
Low budget sci-fi horror from camp Roger Corman. This was a first time watch and while i enjoyed the settings, monsters and kill scenes it wasnīt the masterpiece i was expecting. 6/10

I went and had a great time at a 2 day horror film festival at the weekend. There was 8 feature films and 24 shorts. I'll just leave a little comment for the FFs and then a rank of the shorts.
The Moor (2023) - It was decent and sad. But there was really no need for it to be 2 hours long and I just wanted more of the energy and weirdness of the last ten minutes. 6/10
Lore (2023) - I wasn't feeling this too much for the first 40 mins or so. But it didn't half turn around after that, the last 2 tales were super fun and gory. 6/10
How To Kill Monsters (2023) - This was my fave of the feature films. A bit hmm at first but then it just went full throttle into a big, goopy, funny, camp gory mess. 7/10
They Wait In The Dark (2022) - Woulda got a lower score if it wasn't for the twist which I liked very much. 6/10
The Weird Kidz (2023) - This was a pretty animated film. It started off great and funny but my interest did begin to wane in the last half an hour. 6/10
Puzzle Box (2023) - An ok found footage film. Basic really but was kinda cool to see on big screen. 6/10
The Once And Future Smash (2022) - This was a pretty great mockumentary. I loved all the subtle jokes and all the geekiness with the horror cons and such. 7/10
End Zone II (2022) - This was the film that is supposed to be from 1970 that was the joke of the prior film. Only an hour long but a bit dull with it until the last 20 mins. 5/10
Shorts rank:
Nasty Videos (2023) - 9/10 Charlie The Cancelled Skeleton (2023) - 8/10 We Forgot About The Zombies (2022) - 8/10 Knock Knock (Knock) (2023) - 7/10 Ron (2022) - 7/10 The Heritage (2023) - 7/10 Meat Friend (2022) - 7/10 Eric (2022) - 7/10 The Girl With The Haunted Vag1na (2023) - 7/10 Lake Erie (2022) - 7/10 Oddities (2023) - 6/10 Ringworms (2022) - 6/10 Trespasser (202?) - 6/10 The Lure (2023) - 6/10 Hold Of The Dead (202?) - 6/10 Jeong-Dong: Affects (2023) - 6/10 Death Date (202?) - 5/10 Caterpillar (2023) (Bentley-Viney) - 5/10 Alicia (2023) - 5/10 Three Baths (2023) - 5/10 Yuggoth (202?) - 5/10 Marvin The Vampire (2023) - 5/10 Get Out Of There (2022) - 5/10 Septichexen (202?) - 4/10

Frankenstein vs. The Mummy (2015)
Terrifier director Damien Leoneīs modern take on Frankenstein with a mummy twist. Not everything works here but it was good enough, i liked the monsters and thereīs few ultra nasty kills. 6/10
The Exorcist III: Legion and The Exorcist III (1990)
Very good film. I watched both cuts and have to say that the original Legion cut is a bit better. The studio demanded an exorcism scene so the theatrical version has that but i donīt think itīs necessary. Brad Dourif is awesome especially in the Legion version but sadly the picture quality in some scenes is very low. 8/10 for Legion and 7/10 for theatrical.
Nekromantik 2 (1991)
More imaginations from Jörg Buttgereitīs mind. Itīs a very romantic film but with a nasty twist. Canīt really recommend this to anyone and what they did to that poor seal is breathtaking but thatīs life. Probably never going to watch these again 5/10

Halloweenville (2011) - This documentary was pure joy, I was tingling all over! I want to live there at Halloween 😍 8/10
Slice (2018) - Fun comedy horror with murder, a werewolf and a large population of ghosts. 7/10
Stepfather II (1989) - Although it didn't have anything in it that matched the delightful opening of the first film I think I slightly preferred this one. He just seemed even more unhinged and the kills were quite lovely. Post woman totally deserved her fate rifling through his mail, cheeky cow! 8/10
Host (2020) (Savage) - They shouldn't've shown the demon cos that looked bloody stupid. But this was a surprisingly gripping hour long film. 6/10
Haunted By Murder: An Aurora Teagarden Mystery (2022) - This was really quite good for one of these corny TV films. 7/10
Falcon Lake (2022) - More of a dark coming of age drama but it had the eerie vibes throughout, just waiting for it to have an ending like that. 7/10
A Haunting In Venice (2023) - One of the weirdest scenes ever in this for the greatest detective in the world. A tap starts running and immediately steams up the place, he puts his hand under and seems startled at how hot it is. WHAT THE ACTUAL F???!! Anyway for a Poirot film it's not up there with the best. But as just a spooky, ghostly, Halloween set film with beautiful locations and settings it was pretty blissful. 7/10
And a few shorts: A Nightmare On Chocolate (2019) - 6/10, A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing (2023) (An) - 6/10 and A Noite Do Vampiro - 7/10

Helen S, I am surprised you watched a Hallmark movie lol! My Husband has seen most of those Aurora Teagarden movies. He calls her the Young Jessica Fletcher.

Night of the Creeps (1986)
What can i say, this is a Fred Dekker classic and everything just works. One of my all time fave horror comedy films. 10/10
Exorcist: The Beginning (2004)
Exorcist saga goes Indy adventure mode and everything is so boring. I like Stellan Skarsgård but sadly he canīt save this cgi filled mess. 4/10
The Witch Who Came from the Sea (1976)
Donīt let the cool artwork fool you because you canīt see any witches cutting heads in this one. What you get however is a pretty nice low budget psychological horror drama starring Millie Perkins. 6/10
Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :
Lust for a Vampire (1971) Its pretty cheesy.
Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :
L'altro inferno aka The Other Hell (1981)
Surprisingly entertaining low-budget Bruno Mattei/Claudio Fragasso nunsploitation horror film. Wicked atmosphere with a stolen Goblin (the band) score = works 7/10
Sleepstalker (1995)
This was a pretty boring straight to video fantasy horror film. A serial killer called Sandman is on the loose and Jay Underwood is the target. 4/10
Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist (2005)
Better than the Harlin version but not that special iīm afraid. The pace is very slow and sometimes it feels like a British afternoon tv-show. Paul Schrader can do much better but i think that the Exorcist franchise is doomed. 6/10
Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :
White of the Eye (1987)
This was a good Donald Cammell (Demon Seed) psychological thriller with horror elements. Nice Arizona scenery, believable dialogue plus David Keith and Cathy Moriarty give good performances. 7/10
Close Calls (2017)
Yes, i fell in love with Jordan Phipps who wears nothing but her underwear almost the whole film. But at the same time this modern giallo/slasher is just too long and confusing. 4/10
Escalofrio aka Satanīs Blood (1978)
Wow, what a crazy Spanish film. Satanism and nudity is the name of the game here. Somewhat enjoyable but also very frustrating stuff. 5/10

Last Night in Soho (2021)
This was a good mystery film from Edgar Wright but i expected even better. I would still recommend the film because itīs very well made and the cast rocks. 7/10
Nightmare aka Nightmare in a Damaged Brain (1981)
I enjoyed this Romano Scavolini psychological slasher very much. Oppressive atmosphere, New York 42nd street magic and supernasty kills. 8/10
Symptoms (1974)
Nice psychological mystery thriller directed by Jose Ramon Larraz. Just like in Nightmare, the main character suffers from strong trauma and bad things happen. Loved the British countryside scenery and slow tempo. 7/10

A Really Haunted Loud House (2023) - And I thought I had it bad that time when one house was giving out sandwiches to trick or treaters. Toothbrushes is the work of pure evil. Cheesy, cute fun. 7/10
Night Of The Creeps (1986) - The first time I watched this I just thought it was alright. But everytime since it goes up another point. I really loved this teen romance/Shivers lite horror comedy this go. I laughed everytime Tom the man said 'Thrill me.' While this film is mostly tongue in cheek I do find that part when the dead guy crashes up through the floorboards really unsettling. 8/10
The Exorcist: Believer (2023) - Eh, this was alright. I don't rate the original very highly at all. I only really like part 3. So I don't have this big mantle to compare. I actually enjoyed more of the family drama than the spooks. I liked the Dad and daughter relationship. I am a bit fed up of the grief aspect in horrors, but this was done well, not overblown at all. So the girl who played Angela was pretty good, unfortunately the other was not, way too comical with her expressions and such. I liked how they went where I didn't think they would. And the death about 10 mins from the end was fantastic, CCCCCRRRRUUUUUNCCCCCCCCHHH I liked the subtle Tubular Bells too. 6/10
Boys From County Hell (2020) - This was a really enjoyable little Irish horror. It's hard to do a such a film differently after so many but this succeeds. The synopsis on TV said it was a comedy horror which is crap. Some banter between characters does not make it so. It's mostly straight. Loved the boar action and some decent gore. 7/10
Pin (1988) - Glad I finally got to this. It was really great. One of the most effective of these psychological dummy films. I was genuinely creeped out throughout and then that ending made me wanna cry. Great performances by all. 8/10
Tales Of Halloween (2015) - Watched the last 5 Octobers, couldn't see it changing now. So cosy. 8/10
Crawlspace (2022) - Bit of a weird thriller/comedy with splashes of Home Alone. 6/10
And a bunch of shorts: Expensive S**t (2020) - 6/10, Bloody Mary (1992) - 6/10, Evil Of Dracula (1997) - 6/10, Crow Hand!!! (2014) - 8/10, The Haunted House (1906) - 7/10, Lonely Water (1973) - 7/10, Pumpkin D**k (2019) - 3/10, Whiskey Fist (2017) - 6/10 and Kiss Kiss Fingerbang (2015) - 5/10

Censor (2021) - A couple of ok bits but overall really boring. And trying to make me feel sorry for a censor person? On yer bike! 2/10
Halloween (2018) - Begging my future self to not watch this for a 4th time. It was an absolute chore to sit through this time and goes down everytime. First time 6/10, second 5/10 and now 3/10 Bleh!
Stepfather III (1992) - Well, you know straight away as it opens with a back alley plastic surgeon drinking and smoking all over his open wounds to give him a new face that this one was going full ham. The new guy is no Terry O'Quinn but he still is fabulously demented. Some great kills and they did him wrong at the end there. I wanted the kid to die. Great trilogy. 7/10

Dog Soldiers (2002)
Rewatch from 4K release and this Neil Marshall debut was better than i remembered. The werewolves look cool and i like the desperation feel the soldiers have during the siege. 8/10
All Hallowsī Eve (2013)
I recall that Helen watched this last year. This is Damien Leoneīs debut film and itīs a pretty good anthology. Art the Clown is one mean SOB 6/10

All Hallowsī Eve 2 (2015)
No Damien Leone (he was the producer), no Art the Clown so this was a very poor anthology film. I only somewhat enjoyed the first two episodes Jack Attack and The Last Halloween. 3/10
Halloween (1978)
The original and the best. I understand that this may be too slow for modern horror fan but iīm as old school as they come. BTW, that is the original Finnish movie poster. 10/10

Here's the last 2 days of October but as always I gone on until 5th November.
Five Nights At Freddy's (2023) - When it started up I was like 'Agghhh, not grief horror agaaaaaaaaain' and it was just way too plodding. The only thing really getting me through the first half was the great performance by Josh Hutcherson. It did win me around in the second half though. That story is so friggin' dark, I wish I was 7 or 8 watching it, it would scar me for life haha. 6/10
Spooky Bats And Scaredy Cats: A Halloween Tale (2009) - Always watch this adorable half an hour stop motion. 8/10
Hocus Pocus (1993) - I've never been crazy in love with this but it's just a nice easy watch. 7/10
Trick 'R Treat (2007) - Always. 10/10 and its original animated short Season's Greetings (1996) - 8/10
