I just recently watched the remake of Robocop, needless to say I was very upset at the lack of decent story of the new one. Better actors didn't translate to a better movie. I thought the first one made Murphy look like he could only be fixed by making him a cyborg, the new one I thought was a little much in terms of how he becomes Robocop. It just felt rushed.

Any thoughts?

The only positive for me with the new RoboCop movie was seeing the great Michael Keaton back on the screen in what seemed an absolute age.
Apart from that it was way to tame for my liking,robocop should never have been aimed at a pg-13 audience and that could also be said of the last couple of die hard films,it just doesn't work!
you would have thought they would have worked this out from the original series with what a disaster - robocop 3 and its pg-13 antics turned out to be.
but then we all know with the studios it's all about the dollar signs and that there not into caring what the real fans want!
also They might of had a high caliber of actor in the likes of Gary oldman and Samuel l Jackson,but most of the time there just lurking in the backgrounds,the central character of RoboCop himself as played by Joel kinnaman just didn't cut it for me,his performance felt pretty lifeless overall especially when compared to the vastly underatted actor peter Weller's in the original.
Plus you've got a really talented supporting cast in the likes of Nancy Allen,Dan o'herlihy,Ronny cox and the awesome kurtwood smith and Miguel ferrer.
for starters who did you find more menacing the villains in the remake or Clarence bod****er and his gang in the original.
There's no competition really!
I'd even say the much-maligned sequel RoboCop 2 is way superior to the remake,i don't think part 2 quite gets the credit it deserves,it pales in comparison to verhoeven's original but its still a very entertaining and well shot movie.
One thing that the remake does have going for it though is that it's a lot better than RoboCop 3!

Amen, agreed, and right on.
Robocop 2 was even better than the remake. Even if you put Omar from "The Wire" on, it wasn't going to save the movie.
I just felt cheated and thought they were going to do something really great.

Unfortunately I have been unable to make it through the entirety of the remake. The furthest I have ventured was where he learned what happened to himself and why he is in his position.
The original pushed the envelope in terms of brutality, struggle, etc.., You felt as if you were watching a high budget cult film that really took it to the limits. It just felt right for the time. That was around the time of memorable action films like Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, etc..,
Although I have not watched a great deal of the remake, nothing I saw compelled me to watch more. I didn't care about Alex Murphy any longer because what I knew and what I associated with were now turned into a terrible hollywood-like abortion of something that gave me great memories of a great time.

I just watched the original Robocop in 4k and have to say the upgrade was well worth it in the most part. The ED209 looked a little better but still couldn't handle stairs and screamed like a baby bird when it falls over.
