The Atlantis Interceptors aka Raiders of Atlantis (1983)
"Two Vietnam-vets and several scientists face an extraordinary battle for survival against descendants of Atlantis' original race, when the Lost Continent emerges in the Caribbean following radioactive leakage from a sunken Russian nuclear submarine. Calling themselves "Interceptors", the murderous Atlanteans set about reclaiming the world by killing everyone and destroying everything in sight. It is up to Mike, Washington and Dr. Cathy Rollins to uncover the secret behind their existence and use it against them in order to stop the interceptors' apocalyptic rampage." (Wiki)
Oh yeah, finally i found and bought the finnish VHS tape and could see this italian sci-fi action flick again. The Atlantis Interceptors was directed by legendary Ruggero Deodato (Cannibal Holocaust, Cut and Run) and stars Christopher Connelly, Tony King, Gioia Scola and Bruce Baron. I remember seeing the film once around ī87-ī88 but could only remember one scene from the actual movie. This is the scene where Mike and Washington decapitate one of the bad guys with a wire while heīs riding a motorcycle.
The film starts with a great disco theme tune written by De Angelis brothers. Check it out, itīs highly contagious https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc51jjDnXjc The Atlantis Interceptors is set in Miami, Florida, 1994 but itīs mainly shot in Philippines. Some sfx looks pretty awful but hey, itīs a low-budget italian 80s movie, itīs supposed to look like this! After all the action, killing and all the strange things happening the film still seemed to lack memorable scenes. Maybe it just wasnīt weird enough or i was just expecting too much? Well, i highly recommend it anyway, especially for the fans of 80s italian cinema

The poster is indeed cool and whatīs surprising is that you can actually see the big gun in the film

This one was among the first ten video's i took home from the videostore back in '86. Back then it really triggered a child's fantasy, still infinite as it was at that point. (a time when young Johnny had yet to become reckless)
When i saw it again, just a couple of years ago, it looked kinda cheap and childish, yet i could still see its charm. It's like Mad Max with more fantasy and adventure in it.
What can i say.. I still like it !
In 2013 it was released on dvd in Germany under the title Atlantis Inferno, but the disc was a let-down. It was hardly any better than a decent VHS, fullscreen, and no English audio or subtitle option except for German.
The trailer turned up on one of Synapse's 42nd Street Forever dvd's, but unfortunately it hasn't led to an official release in the US or the UK.
