The best thing about cable as a kid, was knowing that you were going to be able to see "Grown-up" movies. However, (I know guys did this) did you ever rent a movie for possible "skin scenes" and the movie was just a tease by the cover?
Was there ever a build up that was just a let down on the screen?
My all time biggest let down... Porky's
I was expecting sooo much more from a movie that "I wasn't allowed to watch". A close second from the same aspect Animal House.
I'm curious about this since my "Tuff Turf" let down.

another was discovering the programming on cinemax in the middle of the night, i remember that, i remember thinking oh man what luck
i was allowed to stay up late as i wanted, and at a ceartin point there was no else awake to say no you cant watch that

In the late 80's we had German tv-station RTL-plus on cable here. They showed lots of softcore erotica, mostly from the 70's, such as the Black Emanuelle movies starring beautiful Laura Gemser. Later i found out that they were actually cut versions, and commercial breaks up to almost 10 minutes were probably added to disguise the suspisiously short running-time of the actual movie.. but hey, what the hell.. there were naked women on tv !! They also showed lots of 80's flicks that i only knew from video-stores back then, including lots of Cannon product. Keep in mind that commercial Dutch tv-stations had yet to surface at that time. We only had public network tv in the 80's. Holland's first commercial tv-station started in 1989, and they were located in Luxemburg of all places ! But they quickly 'poluted' our television screens with zombies, ninja's, and yes.. boobs too ! The fun lasted only a couple of years though. Within 5 years they had changed into a more serious and family-friendly station.
The German RTL-plus still exists today, but they also drastically changed programming somewhere in the early 90's. They dropped the 'plus' from their name, so now they're simply called RTL Television.
It's a shame though, because some of the movies i saw on German tv in the late 80's and on Dutch tv somewhere around 1990 practically vanished without a trace over the years. I still have memories of seeing certain movies, but never found out what the actual titles were. On the German tv-station they were all re-titled in German anyhow.

This is a good topic. I'd have to say, I don't think that I was ever really disappointed with any erotica that I saw back in the day. I have many fond memories, GP, of watching "Cinemax After Dark"--or as we used to call it, "Skin-emax after Dark" with all the softcore stuff in the wee hours of morning. It was fantastic way to spend my adolescence.
JRiR, I used to watch all the Black Emanuelle films with the amazing Laura Gemser. One night, very, very late, on the now-long-gone ON-TV service, I stumbled upon "Emanuelle Around the World." While not the notorious cause celebre that is "Emanuelle in America," I just about had a heart attack from the stuff that I saw, uncut. (And I can't even make a veiled allusion to the activity here. Let's just say that "Around the World" and "In America" have stuff that you will NEVER ever see in an American softcore film!) My mind was warped even more that it already was!

I was a little too young too remember any of the stuff they used to show in the 80's. I didn't hit my pubescent raging hormoned teen phase until the early 90's. But that seemed to be a good time to hit it because they used to play a ton of these late-night erotic shows and movies on HBO & Skinamax then. Everything from Marilyn Chambers Presents, Real Sex, Red Shoe Diaries, Erotic Confessions, the countless steamy Shannon Tweed flicks...ect..ect. Yeah, if you were a male growing up in the 90's, and your parents had premium cable, you were never short of some great late night fap material..hehe. Thank goodness I grew up in a household where the other members of my family were such heavy sleepers during these wee hours of the morning.
