Ok, I'm not really sure where this thread should go, or if it should be combined with the "80's movies coming to Blu-ray", but thought I'd start this one.
So my wife and I just bought a brand new tv, which was overdue. We had a plasma but had sold it because of a move and have been using a 32 inch older lcd. It was as basic as they came. We had a Blu-ray player but on a tv like that it was really not that great of an upgrade. Fast forward to Sunday, we bought a 55 inch LED and after watching our first Blu-ray on that....I'm now hooked! I totally get it now
So my question goes out to you, what are the "must have" Blu-rays? Sure it would be great to just upgrade all my dvds, but I don't think I'll be doing that anytime soon. So let me know your esential 80's and then maybe non 80's picks.

Thanks for the tip, I had seen that site but really never looked in to it. Dark Knight was actually my first pick for Blu-rays! We watched it last night ha! It was amazing!!!

Not sure which 80's Blu-rays I'll go with but I'm sure I'll start grabbing some in the deal bins and building up the collection.

I promised myself not to buy the same movies i already had on dvd all over again.. but that didn't really turn out the way i planned.
I think over half of the blu-rays i buy, i already have on dvd.. oh well.
The thing is, that the bigger your tv-screen is, the more you will benefit from the increased resolution of blu-rays. Many regular dvds still look great on my current 42" plasma screen, but i doubt they'll still look good on a 55" screen.
I am very pleased with the blu-ray presentation of my all-time favorite, Blue Velvet.
Also a major improvement over the regular dvd editions are Big Trouble in Little China and Dressed to Kill.
Dressed to Kill could have been a disaster on blu-ray, because it is kinda dark and grainy, and has that foggy softness look to it.. but it looks absolutely stunning on blu-ray.
They sure did one hell of a job on that one !

i second that - an american werewolf in london despite its mixed reviews on blu ray sites looks really good on blu ray as does risky business.
i watched arrow's blu ray release of vamp yesterday and it looks pretty awesome,major step up in picture quality from my anchorbay dvd(and that was none too shabby either),in fact i'd say it's right up there with the best yet .
the fact the sound is lcpm mono only shouldn't put any one off either as even though your surrounds don't get any use it still overall sounds very clear.
forgot to check out the extras but i think there are many,to late now as i've sealed it back up in its return envelope for delivery back to lovefilm where i rented it from.
if you like 80s horror/comedy vamp i highly recommend the blu ray.

it's not an 80s movie but i purchased terminal velocity starring charlie sheen on blu ray the other day,i got it for the bargain price of £3.47p shipped from the u.s.
it's a budget release from a company called millcreek,i only have one other of there blu rays and that is disorganized crime.
they've been criticized about many of there previous releases concerning the audio visual quality but it looks as if they've raised there game as there latest releases - white squall,terminal velocity,d.o.a etc. are getting much more favourable reviews.
i've checked out terminal velocity and the picture does look pretty decent, plus the audio is a very lively 5.1 dts hd master audio track.
the only extra is a standard definition trailer but at this price you can't complain
plus the other bonus is it's region free

I agree, Blade Runner is one of the best, most extra's-packed releases available (in its 5-disc edition).
I recently watched Romancing the Stone and Trading Places on blu-ray.
Both are excellent blu-ray releases with fantastic picture-quality that goes far beyond their dvd counterparts.
The extra's are the same as on the dvd's though.

yeah, it's an outstanding disc. I had the region 1 2dvd set from a decade ago or so. In terms of picture-quality the blu-ray is a major improvement over the regular dvd edition. The sleeve (as it was released here) doesn't mention all of the bonus features though, but everything that was found on the double-disc dvd set is on the blu-ray as well !
You won't be dissapointed with the blu-ray.. trust me !
