"Seth Brundle, a brilliant but eccentric scientist attempts to woo investigative journalist Veronica Quaife
by offering her a scoop on his latest research in the field of matter transportation,
which against all the expectations of the scientific establishment have proved successful.
Up to a point. Brundle thinks he has ironed out the last problem when he successfully transports a living creature,
but when he attempts to teleport himself a fly enters one of the transmission booths, and Brundle finds he is a changed man.
This Science-Gone-Mad film is the source of the quotable quote "Be afraid. Be very afraid." (IMDb)

It was time to watch this David Cronenberg masterpiece again.
Jeff Goldblum is amazing as Seth Brundle, also Geena Davis and John Getz are great.

I recently bought the R1 2-disc set and just watched most of the extra material too.
Lots of great documentaries, i never knew that they filmed so much stuff that was cut out.
I love the movie as it is and understand why the cuts were made.

Chris Walas´ team did the out of this world special effects.
All hand made, no stupid cgi.

Seth Brundle heard the word cgi one too many times

It´s a love story with a horrific twist, sad and powerful tale.
Cronenberg himself has written a sequel (kind of) but the 20th Century Fox won´t let him do it.

One sequel was already made in 1989 and this is what i´m gonna check out next.
Seen it only once before back in the early 90s.

Any fans of the Cronenberg´s Fly here?

i always remember the scene from the fly where seth arm wrestles that guy in the bar. ouch!

the fly is a really great movie, fly 2 on the other hand i've seen a couple of times and can remember it starred eric stoltz and daphne zuniga but i can not actually remember whether i actually liked it or not?

don't know whether that's trying to tell me something or not,i'm sure it wasn't too bad.

The Fly part 2 is indeed a bit of a letdown, in my opinion.
I think it was a really tough job to begin with, to make a sequel to the Cronenberg version.
I didn't know Cronenberg wrote a sequel himself. It would be interesting to see what he'd come up
with if they ever gave him the chance.

I have an article somewhere from back in the 80s where it is explained that The Fly was some sort
of metaphore for the aids outbreak in the early 80s.
Interesting but dated article, and i'm not really sure if that was really what Cronenberg
had in mind. I mean, his earlier movies were also about the decline of the human body after all.

I love the final shot (which is really the 'final shot' for Seth).
It leaves you kinda bewildered and shocked, and you need a moment there to recover from what
you'd just witnessed.

Cronenberg's The Fly is without a doubt a masterpiece of modern-day horror !

Cronenberg had told to Geena Davis that she should think Goldblum´s character has a cancer
and his body and life slowly falls apart because of this.
Davis said that it helped her acting a lot to think it that way.

And she was even dating Goldblum in real life at that point.

"The almost human son of "The Fly" searches for a cure to his mutated genes
while being monitored by a nefarious corporation that wish to continue his father's experiments." (IMDb)

Just watched this entertaining sequel which was directed by the special effects legend Chris Walas.
Nowhere near the Cronenberg classic but not too bad either.

Lots of familiar genre names has writing credits in this one: Mick Garris, Jim and Ken Wheat
and finally Frank Darabont. Walas had liked Darabont´s work in The Blob and wanted him to refine the script.

The film stars Eric Stoltz, Daphne Zuniga, Lee Richardson and it was nice to see also Harley Cross (The Believers, Cohen and Tate)
John Getz also has a small part and was the only actor from the first film to reprise his role.

This film is aimed more for the teen audience and the Stoltz/Zuniga pair did a solid work.

The special effects, done by the Chris Walas´ team, are stunning once again.
I have the swedish 2-disc dvd and it was great to finally see this uncut.
The old finnish vhs tape was cut over 4 minutes!
Like i´ve said many times, it wasn´t easy to be a movie fan in Finland back in those days.
