This is a fun and enjoyable psychological horror thriller in the Halloween and Black Christmas tradition than being a mindless bloodfeast like say Slaughter High.
I enjoyed this since i was 10 when i rented it on video and has been one of my childhood fave horror films, it's also the debut of Jeepers Creepers and Powder director Victor Salva and the debut of Sam Rockwell.
But i don't like the fact that behind the scenes there was a sick scandal with the director.

i've always liked clownhouse, but your right when you watch it you do have at the back of your mind what was meant to have occured between salva and the young child star nathan forest winters and it does make you feel uneasy.
i've never read much into the details of the case but what does amaze me is if he was convicted of these crimes why is victor salva still being allowed to work in the hollywood film industry making blockbuster movies like jeepers creepers and its sequel.
my wife once got given free tickets for her and her friend to see gary glitter at wembley arena in london, when she came back she said the concert was amazing, few months down the line glitter was convicted of child sex abuse.
my wife said at that time it was still a great concert which ever way you looked at it and said that glitter was a great performer on stage and that it was such a pity that he turned out to be such a rotten human being in his private life.
it's just one of those things in life, you can't control the actions of these celebrities and some times they just don't turn out how you would like them to.

Well in 1988 after Salva filmed Clownhouse, he had oral sex with the 12 year old star of the film and was video taping the whole thing including taking pictures of him. He got arrested and pleaded guilty for oral copulation with a person under 14 and 3 counts of kiddie porn, he was sentenced to prison for 4 years then he moved on. He did paid the penalty for what he did and made the excellent "Powder" which i loved since junior high when i saw that movie 2 times in theaters and even loved "Nature of the Beast" which i rented the same year "Powder" came out and had a blast with "Jeepers Creepers".
I really wish people wouldn't condemn a talented person's work in music, film or Television just because of something he did in his private life.
Almost any talented person did something in their personal life like Roman Polanski, Jeffrey Jones, Pee-Wee Herman aka Paul Reubens, Michael Jackson, Tim Allen, Jerry Lee Lewis or whoever as i still listen to their music, watch their movies and TV shows for i grew up with some of their movies, TV shows and movies.
