What do you guys think about the duo and the movies?
Iīve seen some of them but donīt remember much. I own Nice Dreams and The Corsican Brothers. Future Film is going to release Next Movie and Get Out of My Room here next month, so iīm gonna watch some C&C films later this spring.
Cheech & Chong's Next Movie was banned here back in the day. Now i can laugh to those decisions but it was tough to be a movie fan in Finland back then.

I like "Up in Smoke," which is the progenitor of the stoner comedy. "Next Movie" is a step down but still funny. The rest of them are not so good, and I particularly don't like "The Corsican Brothers."

I've never seen Get Out of My Room and Things are Tough All Over, but i think Crash is right that most of them aren't particularly good, especially The Corsican Brothers. I thought Nice Dreams was pretty decent though.
It's funny from the get go, but it gets hilarious around the 5 minute spot.

That clip perfectly encapsulates Cheech and Chong's comedy. It is hysterical. Their comedy albums are very funny too. I still laugh, even after all these years, at the routines "Drive-In" and "Sister Mary Elephant." And, of course, you gotta love the classic song--and animated music video--"Basketball Jones."

Next Movie is my fave. I actually snuck into that one because I was 14 and they wouldn't sell me a ticket to it. I got a ticket for some other movie that was PG and pulled a fast one when the ushers weren't looking! LOL

Cheech & Chong's Next Movie (1980)
Very good second Cheech and Chong film directed by Tommy Chong.
The guys just wander around Hollywood and have a good time. It was great to see Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Hermanīs debut on film) and John Hughes regular, Edie McClurg too.
I loved the welfare office sequence with hot Donna, the funny laughing old man and Michael Winslow making his magic sound effects (his first feature film).
Cheech and Chong are always short of something (job, money, joint, women etc.) but they always find out how to have a good time.
Lots of funny moments, sexy women, cool music and great late 70s/early 80s LA scenery. Recommended!

Damn this was a fantastic film, i loved every second. Again directed by Tommy Chong and co-starring Paul Reubens and hottie Evelyn Guerrero as Donna. Even Stacy Keach is back as Sarge Stedanko. Heīs an addict himself now and slowly turns into a lizard!
Things get even more weird when we get to the Casa Del Whacko sequence.
Great locations, nice tunes, hot Donna and cool, easygoing atmosphere. You have to see it to believe it!

Things are Tough All Over (1982)
Another pretty good C&C movie directed by Thomas K. Avildsen. (I wonder is he a real person or Tommy Chong in disguise)
"Cheech and Chong work briefly as car wash attendants and musicians before being hired to drive a car from Chicago to Las Vegas. Unbeknownst to them, their employers (themselves in double roles) have concealed five million dollars of dirty money in the upholstery. A series of adventures ensues, including the making of a "porn film" featuring 'The Guys' and their real-life squeezes. (IMDb)
While not as good as the previous films, this was still fun stuff. Some jokes are just too long and lack a real punch line.
Great new characters Mr. Slyman and Prince Habib, the classic "hairpiece" joke plus sexy Donna and "the laughing man" Old Timer (John Steadman) are back once again.
"Cheech & Chong are invited to a celebrity party/festival in Amsterdam. When they get there, however, it turns out that the guy who invited them has taken off with all the money, and the rest of the hosts have a VERY limited budget. They are actually expecting Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton, so our heroes gets to be Mr. Burt and Mr. Dolly. We follow them around Amsterdam, at their hotel, (still) smokin' joints and doing shows." Watched also this one yesterday, the film was directed by Tommy Chong (surprise!) In this movie we can see C&C performing their skits, old and new. Some during the Amsterdam plot and some on stage.
This is basically like a Cheech & Chong tv-special, with extra foul language of course. I laughed few times but i recommend it only for die-hard C&C fans.
I'm a fan of Up in Smoke and Next Movie. I liked Next Movie better. After that one, in my opinion, it was all downhill from there.
I used to have several of their comedy albums as a teen in the 80s. I wore out my cassettes of Greatest Hits and Get out of My Room.
I think the best jokes are in Next Movie. Most of them are worth viewing but are really dated.
I saw Tommy Chong do live stand-up a few years ago and his act was totally unlike anything he used to do. But to be fair, this was without Cheech.
There have been some funny stoner comedies in the past 10-15 years. With that being said, I don't think I could recommend the Cheech and Chong flicks to anyone not from that era. I don't think they would understand or appreciate them for what they are.

The Corsican Brothers (1984)
Cheech & Chong's The Corsican Brothers opens with a rock band (whose two lead members are played by Cheech and Chong) performing with their band in the streets throughout parts of France. Disliking their brand of music, the locals pay off the band to vacate and shortly after the two lead band members meet a gypsy storyteller (Rae Dawn Chong). She tells them the story of the Corsican brothers who attempt to overthrow a cruel member of a monarchy. After the story they continue to play in the streets and give an epic final performance before the credits start to roll." (Wikipedia)
C&C eurotrip continues and now the Los Guys are in France. Overall this was not that bad, just a bit too silly at times. Once again directed by Tommy Chong, this movie is parody of the Alexandre Dumas novella "The Corsican Brothers".
Roy Dotrice gives a hilarious performance and once again we can see Shelby Chong, Rikki Marin and Edie McClurg in key roles.
The one thing i hated was the annoying score, composed by GEO. And what do you know, GEO happens to be George S. Clinton and i usually love his stuff! Well, it was one of his first musical scores so iīll forgive him

Get Out of My Room (1985)
This was a fun 50 minute C&C mockumentary based on their 1985 album of the same name. We can see C&C and their fans fooling around plus four music videos.
Lots of familiar people can be seen during the film including Jan-Michael Vincent, Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson, Beverly DīAngelo, Darcy DeMoss, Mary Woronov and Playboy sisters Alana and Leilani Soares. Superfun stuff!
I also watched this Cheech Marin "solo" film yesterday. Cheech wrote and directed this sympathetic comedy himself. Born in East L.A. is based on the C&C song of the same name.
The film stars Cheech Marin, Daniel Stern, cute Kamala Lopez, Paul Rodriquez and superhot Carol Stoddard as the mysterious girl with red hair and green dress. Jan-Michael Vincent also reprises his police officer role from the "Born in East" LA music video.
So, Cheech tried to get a wider audience after the stoner comedies and i canīt blame him. You canīt just smoke joints for the rest of your life. Good movie.

I was surprised to see Jason Scott Lee as one of the "whaaas sappening" guys in his first feature film. He did two great movies in the early 90s, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993) and Rapa Nui (1994).
