Some of my favorite 80's movies were directed by Tim Burton, who is usually known for making "dark" and visually stunning films. The fall/winter is the best time to watch his movies because most of them seems to take place during that time of the year.
Here are some of my favorites:
From Danny Elfman's haunting score to the awesomeness that is Winona Ryder, this movie is pretty much perfect.
You gotta love Pee-Wee for the breakfast machine, the scary clowns and of course, Large Marge.
This is an honorary 80's movie for me. Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder have awesome chemistry and again, the music score by Danny Elfman is top-notch. The movie seems very much like a fairy tale story.
So, what about you? Are you fan of Tim Burton's movies?

Definitely a fan of the movies you mentioned and own the dvd´s. I also have Batman and Batman Returns. My faves are Beetle Juice and Pee-wee's Big Adventure.
Somehow i lost Tim Burton after Sleepy Hollow (1999) and i haven´t seen his 00s movies.

I like a lot of Burton's stuff. That said, I think some of his stuff doesn't work because he is way too interested in crafting a visually stunning film at the expense of the narrative. My favorite of his is Ed Wood--looks great and is a well-told screenplay. I have often wondered what would happen if you could find a director with Burton's visual eye and Spielberg's gift of storytelling. Oh wait, he did exist. His name was Stanley Kubrick.

I adore some of his stuff Batman Returns is my fave superhero film. Corpse Bride and Ed Wood are blooming marvelous. Love his shorts, Frankenweenie and Vincent. Love his Sweeney Todd. I know he didn't direct but love The Nightmare Before Christmas too. There are others I like but not overly so like all of those. But then there is Planet of the apes and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which are absolutely woeful

Burton is among my favorite directors; I like his style (and there's no denying his longtime musical collaboration with Danny Elfman is one of Hollywood's most successful). While he does miss every now and then, all in all his body of work is quite impressive, and even those works that do in general miss have their moments.

Not an 80's movie, but Ed Wood is one of my favourites. I'm not really a fan, but I actually liked most of Burton's films. Alice in Wonderland was kind of a letdown and I haven't seen Charlie & The Chocolate Factory or Planet of the Apes though.

Good director, definitely more hits than misses.
BURTON'S BEST
1. Beetlejuice 2. Batman 3. Batman Returns 4. Edward Scissorhands 5. Ed Wood
I'm probably also one of the few people in the world who liked his Planet of the Apes re-imagining.
