I can't believe:
* that Sondra Locke was nominated twice and won neither....
* that Ishtar didn't win, despite stiff competition that year....
* that Paulina Porizkova was anywhere near this award for her role in Her Alibi....
* that Bill Shatner was considered a worse actor that Tony Danza, ffs......
More "I can't believe" comments coming later. Feel free to add your own!

While this thread is fun .. I'm not a fan of the Razzies in general.. especially in recent years .. they have purposely selected actress and actors that won major awards for other work. Just for publicity it feels.
And I'll only reference some of their finalist for worst picture from the 80's that I personally enjoy .. they do have some stinkers I can't dispute.. but
1980 Friday The 13th - cult classic
1981 Mommy Dearest - not for me, but didn't it get a ton of attention. Endless Love - it is bizarre, but there are some great moments in it.
1982 Annie - there's always tomorrow?
1983 Ok with me
1984 Ok with me.. but I think we have a huge Rhinestone fan here somewhere
1985 Stop picking on John Travolta .. before this film Muffy thought he was 'Perfect'
1986 Cobra - classic action flick
1987 Ok with me
1988 Cocktail & Dreams - still love this movie!
1989 The Karate Kid III - this was still Ralph Macchio .. this wasn't part IV folks Road House - I thought you'd be bigger! Fun flick
I know movie watching is subjective, but some of these are decent movies that made some serious cash at the box office and still have fans to this day. Well at least 1. ha

The problem with the Razzies, as Valley says, is that it's so calculated to select people whom the Razzies folks obviously dislike for publicity's sake, no matter what. Hence, you have the typical 80's DePalma bashing with the collateral damage of Nancy Allen and Michael Caine, Kubrick bashing, Stallone bashing, etc. OK, I wlll give you that "Windows" is a terrible movie, "The Pirate Movie" isn't good, and anything with Pia Zadora in it is even worse, but let's face it, a lot of these movies aren't that bad at all, simply fair-to-middling or misguided failures on some level, but not without entertainment value. That's why unless we want to list films that are ridiculously bad in some way to have highly unintended entertainment value (i.e. camp), it's more fun to be positive and make lists of "good" movies (best Rowdy Herrington film, best talking horse film, best odd-numbered Star Trek sequel, etc.).

I don't love the razzie's, but I don't mind them either. I do love the fact that they take a fun swipe at such an amazingly self-congratulatory industry that tends to take itself...wow...incredibly and amusingly seriously. They cry on stage when their classmates give them a ribbon. I watch the Oscars every year and I love it, I don't move from my seat and I get all my snacks and just settle in, so I really think the razzies are just having an appropriate amount of fun with the town and being a bit subversive...David Lynch would be proud!
Beyond that, never has a single razzie nomination or win ever made me enjoy a performance, movie, song or score any less for having been nominated!
I still dim the lights in my movie room and from time to time sit an sing along to Pumpin' and Blowin' from The Pirate Movie or get a lump in my throat when Rock tells a crowd of Russkies "If i'se can change...and you's can change...!" or thrill to the non-stop action adventure of Willow or quote "...the alabama slamma'...the ding-a-ling" or find myself on the edge of my seat as Emilio Estevez fights to survive in a world of trucks gone mad! Long live the razzies and long live the movies I will never be embarassed to watch!
