This was a good serial killer flick directed by William Lustig (Maniac, Vigilante, Maniac Cop etc.) Starring Leo Rossi, Judd Nelson, Robert Loggia and Meg Foster.
Rossi and Loggia are two LAPD officers on a hunt for son of a cop turned serial killer played by Judd Nelson. Nelson is one scary dude. His cop father did some evil things to him when he was a kid that made him a psychopath.
I think that this was a very well done movie with some nasty kills and pretty atmospheric score.
Relentless was the first in a series of four films starring Leo Rossi as detective Sam Dietz. I also have the second one which i´m going to check out next.
Recommended for William Lustig fans.

i wasnt really sold on this movie's story. the sam dietz character was interesting and i would like to see the character in another film.
anybody else feel the story was lacking?

I kind of liked Relentless back in the day. It's a solidly made B-film, not particularly great, but good enough. The best thing about it is Judd Nelson's good performance. He made some nice choices--underplaying his hand--not doing your cliched psychopath. What I really didn't like was as the Relentless series continued through the sequels, they became bascially vanity projects for Leo Rossi, a middling, unattractive actor, who obviously had a high opinion of himself as a lead.

Rossi is ok b-movie guy, he always has this grin on his face so he´s better in comedy type flicks like Fast Getaway II which i watched couple of weeks ago.
But he can look pretty mean too if he wants.

relentless,now that's what i call an underated movie,like atomik said some of the killings were quite grisly,WARNING SPOILERS - the jogger at the begining when he is lying on the floor after being chocked out by the psychotic phone book killer arthur 'buck' taylor (great performance from judd nelson) and then buck(nelson) proceeds to the kitchen draw and pulls out a very large kitchen knife with which he then gives the jogger a helping hand in stabbing himself, gruesome stuff.
this is definitely a well made movie the fact being that director william lustig gets you caring for the characters of sam dietz(leo rossi) and especially his partner bill malloy played by the great robert loggia WARNING SPOILERS - when malloy(loggia) gets taken out by the psychotic buck(nelson) i actually had a lump in my throat,that's how likeable his character came across,i felt really bad for him.
the music score score here by jay chattaway is awesome,i mean really first rate,the opening credits music and the music played over malloy's demise - top notch!
i've actually not seen any of the sequels but i very much doubt there as good as this.

I always remember Leo Rossi as one of those douchebags from The Accused that was cheering on the rape.
