This is not in ranking order of 1-10, this is just a list of the top 10 teen 80s movies. If you think a different movie should be in there, tell us which one BUT you have to tell us which movie you're taking off of the list. Your opinions are wanted. What do you think?

Sixteen Candles
Valley Girl
Some Kind Of Wonderful
Weird Science
The Breakfast Club
Pretty In Pink
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Can't Buy Me Love
Say Anything
Fast Times At Ridgemont High

Devolution here,

I'll start. Better off dead is a billion times better than Weird Science. Don't get me wrong. I love Weird Science to but it is the weakest movie there.

Secret Admirer.. excellent list of movies and fun game..

I'll start with a couple of easy ones for me:

The Karate Kid on - Pretty In Pink off

Just One of the Guys on - Weird Science off

Now it gets tricky.. are these considered teen movies?

The Lost Boys

Night of the Comet

If so... they are in my top 5 and I'll need to rework the list again

Here's the ones on your list that stay on mine no matter what..

Valley Girl
Can't Buy Me Love
Sixteen Candles
Fast Times At Ridgemont High

Finally.. a couple for my own personal top ten that I wouldn't expect to make a group top ten:

The Heavenly Kid
RAD

You guys are bringing up some good ones! I had a hard time leaving off Footloose. Obviously, "teen movie" is subjective, but I just tried to come up with the best movies that were were mostly about teen life and didn't stray into other themes too heavily.

Thanks for your input so far! Keep it comin' [Smile]

I would switch Weird Science with Heathers.

Valley, I think Lost Boys and Night of the Comet are definitely teen movies!

Posted by Pyromantic (Member # 7658) on :

I would replace Pretty in Pink or Sixteen Candles, or maybe even both. You only really need 1 Molly Ringwald movie on a list like this I think. And Breakfast Club would be it for me. And yea, I'd definitely add Footloose.

And though I do love Weird Science...I think I'd replace that with Porkys.

I'm also thinking Revenge of the Nerds should be included somewhere...true, it's a movie about college, Not Highschool...but it was one of my favs during my highschool years.

Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :

i don't think weird science should be in there. and as much as i don't care for fast times, i think THAT movie should be there.

i would definitely add heathers. [Smile]

Posted by Muffy Tepperman (Member # 1551) on :

I'm with the girls I think Heathers needs to be on there....because it was dark....now I LOVE Say Anything.....but I think i'd drop it for Heathers......and maybe Weird Science dropped for The Lost Boys........A sweet romantic teen movie for a dark romantic teen movie.....and a fantasy teen movie...for a darker fantasy teen movie.........maybe i'm darker!

What's your damage Near Dark Muffy?

Well, if "The Lost Boys" and "Night of the Comet" count as teen flicks .. Goodbye to you "Pretty In Pink" and "Weird Science".. sorry Chet!

Posted by John Kreese (Member # 9369) on :

I would have to take out "Some kind of wonderful", "pretty in pink", and "say anything".

Replace with "The Karate Kid", "Lost Boys", and "Footloose".

Posted by warriorwoman73 (Member # 9316) on :

Stand By Me was excellent - although certainly not in the same vein as these other classics. [Smile] Good list - I'd take out "Pretty in Pink", "Some Kind of Wonderful", "Say Anything" and "Can't Buy Me Love" - although all were great flicks. I'd add "The Lost Boys", "Revenge of the Nerds", "Footloose", and "Caddyshack" for sure.

Posted by Muffy Tepperman (Member # 1551) on :

Near Dark Muffy here,

I didn't see what Secret-A said about "not straying away too much from Teen life"

So I might need to chuck Lost Boys(not realistic enough).......I still think Heathers is great because even though it was extreme....the bullying could be realistic!

Warriorwoman.......Caddyshack???? hahaha is there a "teen" even in the movie?? [Big Grin]

We Are NEAR DARK MUFFY

Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :

i completely skipped over footloose! you have to have footloose. [Big Grin]

Posted by Secret Admirer (Member # 3574) on :

Ok, you guys have almost convinced me to replace Weird Science with....well....anything! Poor Weird Science, it's taking a beating here [Big Grin]

You have all brought up some really good choices, but Tepperman did not make a case for Teen Witch?

Posted by Devolution (Member # 1731) on :

Devolution here,

Near Dark Muffy. Good stuff. Caddyshack isn't even a thought.

I do agree with the Revenge of the Nerds and Just One of the Guys selections. Teen Witch is a great movie but top ten? No way. Heathers I might make a case for maybe Lucas also possibly on stars in the movie alone. I'll keep thinking about this.

'Weird Science' is gone. Maybe 'Say Anything' too. I want one of the other Hughes movies gone, but I struggle with which one. But now... what to replace them with?

Just One of the Guys
Heathers
Lucas
Karate Kid

Man, a lot of hate for the classic Weird Science.

Karate Kid absolutely has to be on there, no question about it. I didn't include Revenge of the Nerds, only because I am thinking just high school movies.

Posted by Muffy Tepperman (Member # 1551) on :

I love how everyone has made sure to say they don't "hate" Weird Science it's just the weaker on the list........weaker but still TOP TEN material! [Smile]

OMG OMG How did I forget Teen Witch hahaha

I'm actually feeling Lucas.....although a top ten??? maybe 12 or 13?

Are you people mental?? There's NO WAY you're cutting Fast Times from an 80's teen flick list! That's like cutting The Godfather from a mob movie list! Whether you like it or not, it more or less set the template for anything that followed! It stays!

Now, following that stern, but much needed, reprimande, I will give you my picks [Smile]

Sixteen Candles- Stays.

Valley Girl- Stays.

Some Kind Of Wonderful- This I would cut, and put in the awesomeness that is Tuff Turf!

Weird Science- I dig WS, but it has to go for The Karate Kid, as others pointed out!

The Breakfast Club- That's a given.

Pretty In Pink- Hmmm... i'd cut this for three reasons. No chemistry between leads, Duckie... I ****ing hate that guy, and the ugliest prom dress in history! True, im no expert on womens wear, but even I could tell that, that thing belonged in the damn dumpster! Spader is awesomely douchy in this movie though, but PP has to go. And i'd replace it with Lost Boys!

Ferris Bueller's Day Off- Im aware of the cult like status of this movie, but I just don't like it. i'd put the much superior Three O' Clock High in it's place!

Can't Buy Me Love- Duuuuh!

Say Anything- Bla bla boombox scene, bla bla, kickboxing, sport of the future, bla bla, Frasier's dad steals from old people.... we get it! No, seriously, this flick has its moments. But dare i substitute it with the admittedly lighter, but more enjoyable The Sure Thing? I think I dare.

Fast Times At Ridgemont High- Double duuuuuh! The original, the real McCoy, the cat's pajamas! How dare you cut this [Eek!]

Anyway, that's my two cents....

Posted by John Kreese (Member # 9369) on :

ok, I am declaring this to be the "correct" list. I left out ROTN because I am including only high school movies as that is what i define a "teen" movie.

Ferris Bueller
Karate Kid
Breakfast Club
16 Candles
Footloose
Fast Times
Valley Girl
Weird Science
Can't Buy Me Love
Back to the Future

- Honorable Mention:
Just One of the Guys
Better Off Dead
Say Anything
Pretty in Pink
Some Kind of Wonderful
Tuff Turf

I was wondering if we're talking just Highschool 'Comedies' here??...Cuz if not..then I have a couple more suggestions...

Stand & Deliver
Fame
Lean on Me
The Outsiders

I would replace the bottom four on the Secret Admirer's original list...yes...that's right...I said it. Away goes anoying Ferris, Can't Buy Me Love (only cause my wife has made me watch it one million times), and "Say Anything" and "Fast Times" are off my list, only because I didn't see them when I was young in the 80's...I like em...but they missed my most imprsssionable years. So....add The Karate Kid, Back To The Future, Gremlins, and...wait for it.....FLASHDANCE! Ok...if these don't count as teen movies....I'm OK with the original list.

Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :

for the record, i don't 'hate' weird science. [Big Grin]

i think it's a hilarious flick, but top ten TEEN movies... no.. they create a woman from a doll lol..

i said fast times should stay but i do not like that movie.
someone mentioned Lucas.. and yes! that is a great choice...it should probably knock heathers off the revised list [Smile]

Whoa, the controversy is heating up!

I will say this, only because it has been brought up maybe the most in this thread, but I don't see The Lost Boys as a teen movie. It strays into vampire/horror/thriller territory way more than it spotlights teenage behavior and lifestyle. So that is why I would not include it on this list.

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

Kev.. have you told your wife that you removed "Can't Buy Me Love" from the list and at the same time lost all validity as a poster on the Rewind. Oops did I type that last part.. I was only suppose to think it. Ha..

Similar to Ronnie mentioning not liking "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" and Kev over watching "Can't Buy Me Love" .. I actually have the same of type issue with "The Breakfast Club" and probably "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".. I totally agree that as a collective group that they deserve to be on a top ten list maybe even top 5 as movies that reflected/influenced 80's teen life.. but from a personal enjoyment stand point they are like Secret Admirer forcing me to watch "Weird Science" everytime I visit his house. [Wink]

Once again similar to the Valley Girl 20 Questions thread.. it has been a blast seeing so many different folks post their thoughts on the threads. I wish it happened more often because it is fun to have discussions like this with so many differing opinions.

I agree! It has been a blast seeing so many people post their thoughts....I love when a topic gets Rewinders out of hiding.........

So I just thought of a movie to consider??

Dream a Little Dream

might be close to a top ten for me because I saw it so much then.........it was one of my favs.....highschool life, best friends, bullies, loves??? What do ya think?

I'm with you on that, Valley. Much as I love them, the two Hughes movies I could stand losing the least (after the obvious cut: 'Weird Science') are BC and FB. It all comes down to personal preference.

I know cutting both SKOW and PP may seem a bit harsh, but I really don't like SKOW, and PP just has too many cons to its pros. Spader makes the movie for me, and some of the tunes, the 80's feel, but that's it! Yeah, I replaced it with Lost Boys, which I kinda agree is not "technically" a teen flick, but still....!

And I had to make room for Tuff Turf, So SKOW had to go....

JAY LEE.. too bad about about your log-in suddenly not working anymore.

I'm a huge fan of "Tuff Turf" .. not sure about top 10, but it is a great flick and at least needs to be considered.

The Outsiders...nobody ever mentions the The Outsiders,...or Rumble Fish for that matter.

The Outsiders in, Weird Science out.
Rumble Fish in, 16 Candles out.
Footloose over Fast Times At Ridgemont High (ruthless,I know)

Now this is where it becomes awkward. Heathers and The Karate Kid have to be in there somewhere, but I can't blank Amanda Peterson or exile Nic Cage and there's no question that John Cusack has to stay.

OK, so here it is... The Karate Kid and Heathers over Valley Girl and Can't Buy Me Love. Ithankyou.

OK : 24 hours for SKOW to go back on the list, or I'm changing your User Title to "Rewind Powderpuff" of something similar. and I'm gonna edit your posts to support this title..... [Smile]

Seriously - there really isn't another 80s Teen Movie quite like Some Kind Of Wonderful. all the others stray too far from reality, or into comedy, or have a main theme / genre that makes the 'teen' element totally coincidental. Examples: The Lost Boys is not a teen movie, it's a vampire movie that happens to have teenagers in it. The Karate Kid isn't a teen movie, it's a martial arts movie with a kid as the main character. If you're taking 'movies with teenagers in them' as being a teen movie, then what about Platoon? Or Biloxi Blues? Or indeed any movie where someone is a teenager, so LadyHawke gets in.

SKOW stays real, the characters act entirely as they would in real life, and the humour comes from the interaction between the characters rather than any jokes the writers attempt to squeeze in. It's central theme, it's main genre, is teenagers and how they act / react in situations. and those situations are part of everyday life. That makes it a teen movie first and last.

IMHO, any real list, which is neither populist or skewed by personal bias, needs this movie so that the central theme of 'teen' be maintained.

Jay Lee, you the man! I have to agree with pretty much everything you said in that post! Ha. Maybe not your replacements but your arguments are tremendous. Don't mess with Fast Times!

Paul, I do agree that the movie needs to be based around teen life, not just have teenagers in it. I would argue that Karate Kid really is about that. Dealing with being the new kid in town.

My question is Back to the Future? I'm on the fence, but if it's a teen movie, goodbye Weird Science.

Posted by JAY LEE (Member # 6345) on :

Ok, let me state my case for not digging SKOW. I could rip it a new one, but i'll try to be as respectful as I can, cuz well, it's Paul's site [Smile]

First of all, I really don't like the way Stoltz portrays his character. I think he's going for shy, reflective, artsy type, but to me, he just comes across as kinda creepy and stalkerish.

I have a similar problem with Masterson's character. She is suppose to be this tough, tomboyish chick, who's really a sensitive girl underneath, but I feel she goes overboard with the tough girl act, and veers into butch, flannel wearing, golf playing, home depot shopping territory.... if you know what I mean.

And then there is the romantic aspect of the movie. Now being a guy, im not sold easily on movie romances in the first place. But if the movie makes me feel it, I can go with it. I can't here. The scene where Stoltz and Masterson kiss, just makes me uncomfortable for some reason, and the Stoltz and Thompson romance doesn't work for me either. It feels forced and hackneyed to me.

So, since the movie centers around this love triangle of sorts, and that's where my problems lie. I obviously have a hard time getting into this movie. I don't like the characters, and both they, and the movie as a whole, doesn't make me feel anything but indifference.

I do like Hardy Jenns though.... he's no Spader, but still doucheriffic! It has some nice locations, and some good tunes. Sadly, that is not enough to save it, in my book. But this is, of course, only my humble opinion. Movies are art, and art is subjective.

Ok..I was trying to be respectful last time and bite my tongue to keep Valley Girl on the list...because I know many people here love it. But, I just can't do it anymore...Valley Girl has got to go.

Valley Girl = Out
Lucas = In

Devolution here,

I have been trying to figure out a formula to calculate the top ten in no particular order. But I think we need to lay down a few ground rules.

1) The teenagers should get top billing in the credits.
2) The main characters and main enemies should both be teens.
3) There should be a high school scene in the movie (no?)
4) Strength of other plots... Does the movie focus around one character or is it a combination of ideas? Example: While I am convinced Jennifer Grey's part never could have happened and Ferris would have still been a good movie. In better off dead you needed to know Ricky was a loser to feel for Monique.
5) Strength of soundtrack. Are there songs that you got just because of that movie? Is the 90% of it amazing? Without looking now can you name 5 songs? Does it even have 5 good songs? I will always argue this is the true downfall of the Breakfast Club.
6) Does it make people cooler if they have seen it? Or are they not cool because they haven't? Is it truly a crime if they haven't?
7) Finally is there a moral to the end or good vs evil battle of sorts? I would argue a tongue in cheek battle doesn't count. But what is worth more: realization of greatness or victory?

Thoughts?

Devolution here,

8) Is it jus a movie or are you attached to it because it makes you remember things you or Someone you know did?
9) I am ashamed that NONE of you mentioned The Last American Virgin which EASILY kicks off half of these movies!

For every teenage guy who's ever had a crush but been too scared to say anything, Stolz's portrayal was spot on. You look. You find excuses to go where they are so's you can look. Not stalking, just having a crush.

FWIW, the Stolz / Thompson romance didn't work for them either - they dated for a short while after the movie before she married the director. But the kiss in the garage is the single most convincing screen kiss there is....

So we differ. And it doesn't make your list. But you haven't said that this is YOUR list - you post and invite people to argue for their entries. And so, as SKOW is a teen movie by all standards, and The Lost Boys isn't, I can't see why that makes the list and SKOW doesn't.

Also fwiw, we ran a poll a couple of years ago to work out the best 80s movie - loads of votes, and as I recall, SKOW came in fifth or something. Which surely counts....?

Still believe it has much greater 'teen movie' credentials than most on your list...

Devo.. I kind of like your thought process/analysis on the 80's teen movie subject. That is why I asked about movies such as "The Lost Boys" and "Night of the Comet" before just throwing them on the list.

Paul.. count me in as a huge "Some Kind of Wonderful" fan. I have to admit that I've always considered it a superior film to "Pretty In Pink", but your passionate postings about SKOW over the years has opened my eyes to what makes it truly special. That soundtrack is one of my favs!

At least we all agree that "Weird Science" is to never be mentioned again. [Wink]

Secret Admirer.. "Weird Science" is actually an incredible movie and it might be the most that I ever laughed out loud when I watched it for the first time. A great movie that deserves consideration on any top 10 list.

Kash.. thanks for the letter.. of course, I only nopticed it after flying through your jetwash and going into a flatspin last night. btw, Goose is dead.

what about good old fashioned teen angst?? don't we naturally associate teen movies with some kind anguish, usually experienced by the main characater(s), more or less about some typical teen issue. i would say it's definitely part of a formula in these types of movies.
that would apply to 99% of Secret Admirer's list.

teen peer pressure, intense first love, opposites attract, popularity issues, bullying, wanting the girl/boy you can't have, virginity, drugs, pregnancies, crushes...etc.

the last american virgin is a good example of this as well.

i love heathers, as it deals with popularity, and teen suicide...in a more dark manner.

lucas was about a determined, poor boy, gets picked on, falls in love with the new girl in school who wants someone else.......and football. [Wink]

footloose offers us the new kid on the block, small town, trying to fit in, dancing and overcoming some kind of obstacle.

so by those standards, karate kid is perfect. [Smile]

if we include the lost boys, then that means twilight stands for the top teen movies of the 00's, right? lol
it's the same formula, just done differently?

Sorry Muffy...I forgot about the "high school" specification. [Razz] In that case, I guess "Revenge of the Nerds" would not apply as they were at college, and also "Stand By Me" would not apply either, as the boys were 12.

I always want to list it, but the first two thirds of the movie are standard b-grade 'get laid' stuff. It's only really at the end it moves into classic territory, so for a top ten I would leave it off in favour of more consistent movies.

The word 'Stalk' is used far too much nowadays.

quote:
FWIW, the Stolz / Thompson romance didn't work for them either - they dated for a short while after the movie before she married the director. But the kiss in the garage is the single most convincing screen kiss there is....
I'd say it was convincingly awkward, and therefore realistic.

quote:
And so, as SKOW is a teen movie by all standards, and The Lost Boys isn't, I can't see why that makes the list and SKOW doesn't.
quote:
So it seems that Back to the Future would fit, shouldn't that be top 10?
Relating to the above points: I will argue BttF is a teen movie to a non-teen movie crowd, but to a teen movie crowd I would argue it wasn't. So, to add to Devo's list above, I would add:

Is it a genre piece and is the genre the foundation of the movie?

Back to the Future is about time-travel, and without that component the story we follow would not exist. Same with Lost Boys; no Vampires - no movie. I think in the case of the Karate Kid, the karate is incidental to the story the film is telling. So if you replaced it with, say, 'running', the story would play out the same; outsider, bullying, competition, respect (although I think the name might not work anymore. But since that didn't stop them with the Jaden Smith movie... who knows)

quote:
Paul.. count me in as a huge "Some Kind of Wonderful" fan. I have to admit that I've always considered it a superior film to "Pretty In Pink", but your passionate postings about SKOW over the years has opened my eyes to what makes it truly special. That soundtrack is one of my favs!
Have to step in and defend Pretty in Pink. I could write a long long post about why I like it more, or even why I find certain aspects superior, but I can't be bothered. Consider it defended.

quote:
At least we all agree that "Weird Science" is to never be mentioned again. [Wink]
Weird what?

quote:
But you guys are going to die....all 3 said "I Don't know SKOW?" my mouth dropped!!! I'm still in shock.....how could they blank out Some Kind of Wonderful???
We live in 80's land Muffelina. When you stray too far from the neon-brick road, you find that only the really big movies are well known. SKoW is as good as any other Hughes movie, but it wasn't as a big a hit as some others, nor did it have the hit song to bolster its name and appeal, hence; not as well known. I know... the world is broken. That's why we stay here where it's safe and warm.

Sadly, Years from now, someone will argue that Twilight was an essential teen movie of the 2000's.

Devolution here,

Muffy make no mistake. Lucas is 100% a teen movie. I'll analyze it later, my guess is that it will lose out on the top ten because of subpar subplot and barely noticeable soundtrack.

Muffy Temperman here,

Devo make no mistake...i'm not saying Lucas is not a teen movie...hahaha.........it's just way more of a teen "drama" to me......but to drop Valley Girl for it? I had to raise some HE double L hockey sticks!

It has a score by Dave Grusin - and a damn fine one! When I first saw the movie I wanted the soundtrack almost immediately. It's a little too synthy in the uptempo bits, but it has a nice feel.

the theme of the first ten is just so iconic of every attitude of the 80s and thnk its just an swsome list. It really stamps a statment but have to agree that 'weired science' is the one thats drowning a little. I liked it but think its reaching into different tacky, cheap territory, almost gimicky compared to the others.

Adding Lost boys to that list definately turns it all cultish as does adding KK.

Thinking about Jaylees coment on the chemistry of characters as a basis of strength and longevity of the movies of the mid 80s id have to agree so im going to take out...

weired science and replace with St elmos fire. I dont see this as a teen movie at all but that carefree attitde together with a saxaphone player and of course The Brat pack...just has to make that number 10 spot doesnt it?

and take out...(sorry Phoebe)
...fast times and replace with making the grade - cue judd nelsons swagger yet again.

boy wants girl, cant get girl, goes with another girl, wrong girl, loses girl etc etc...its all there.

Oneyedwilly.. you know I'm a huge fan of "Making The Grade", but this crowd is so 'preppy come lately'..

At least we all agree that we should burn our "Weird Science" dvds before anyone finds out that we actually paid money for them.

I've been too focused on other points to comment on this yet, but....I love Weird Science! It shall remain in my top 10 80's movies of all time...I'll even buy the Blue Ray....OK....I got excited...top 15 at least!

I'm not trying to make a stink about it..It's just a personal prefernce really..I've never been much of a fan of 'Valley Girl'..The movie just doesn't have enough of a story and substance for my liking. Lucas on the other hand, Does. And if you're saying 'Lucas' is too dramatic for this list...then you might as well go ahead and remove 'The Breakfast Club' from the list as well...Because both those movies are pretty much equally dramatic. And if there's an unwritten rule here that teen movies can't be dramatic...then I suppose my other choices in moves like: Lean on Me, Stand & Deliver, and The Outsiders are not even gonna be taken into consideration.

HELEN'S IN THE HOUSE!

I think if we were talking top 20 we could fit most of the greats in, but the top ten is pretty crowded, so at least one or two Hughes movies have to go otherwise they dominate. If we had two lists of 'Most Important' and 'Personal Favourite' teen movies, I think we might see some big changes.

'Stand & Deliver' is out because it features an adult as the lead character. 'Outsiders' I think is a good call.

Sometimes when making lists I lump things in together in case they crowd out other things. How would the top 10 look if the Hughes movies were lumped together? That would leave 9 spaces for other movies to choose from... might be interesting. You could also tie 'Rumble Fish' and 'The Outsiders' together.

Pyro i'm totally playing just so you know [Smile]

Lucas is on my list but maybe at 12 or 13 to fit the others in.

Isn't Hughes the master of Teen movies? So why shouldn't he have a handful in there?

I'm seriously shocked anyone can even talk about removing Fast Times from this list. It might not be your favorite movie but it is the definition of 80's teen movies. I'm sorry but it's nuts! It would be like having a list of top ten movies where a group of kids looks for one eyed willy's treasure and not having the Goonies in it!!! [Wink]

Nobody as yet has mentioned Real Genius.

It's as much a teen movie as the rest, and involves several schools.

If any movie should be the one to displace Weird Science, surely Real genius is the one?

Devolution here,

Paul, I was going to but to be fair it's more of a college movie. Besides mitch, all of the other characters are in their 20's, the enemy is 40 and it's one of my favorite all time movies with a killer soundtrack but....

As my friend Jeff said to me long ago,"When I was in high school it was all about Ferris Bueller, in college it's all about Real Genius." Mitch is very young and the main character so it may qualify. My overall vote is no on a top ten teen movie but it is 100% better than Weird Science.

This is the original list;

Sixteen Candles
Valley Girl
Some Kind Of Wonderful
Weird Science
The Breakfast Club
Pretty In Pink
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Can't Buy Me Love
Say Anything
Fast Times At Ridgemont High

This is my list:

The Breakfast Club
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
Can't Buy Me Love
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
License To Drive
Teen Wolf
Summer School
Thrashin'
The Wild Life

I wanted to throw these 2 in as well but could already start to hear the umming and arring.

Back to School

Oh i remember you mentioning your devotion and enthusiasm for MTG and was surprise to hear a lot of people had not seen it and even more surprise to see it wasnt on here at all. MTG is one of my favs too and 'preppy come lately' has got to be better than 'preppy come never'!

Im so sorry if i offend but 'caddyshack' making this list....theres almost 8 yrs difference between the release of this movie and others in the list...Completely different music, actors, and that crudeness in the likes of Porkys, animal farm was replaced with so many coming of age movies like all above mentioned. It all evolved and surely the theme is broken with caddy shack...you may as well throw in Cherry 2000!

Because he dominates a top ten and crowds out other good movies, and his movies are often lumped together anyway. I was only talking speculatively.

Real Genius is a good call. Even if it doesn't fit the bill.

Wow..I can't believe I forgot about Summer School..I think I might have to stick that one in there somewhere...or I dunno...it might just barely miss my 'Top 10'...But it is definetly a must see on my teen movie list.

Teen Wolf for me had to be on my list. It is the first movie I can remember seeing at the movies.

Does Bad Boys (1983) classify as a teen movie?

Devolution here,

Ok, I've been trying to figure out my list. This isn't easy

1) Better off dead
2) Sixteen Candles
3) The Breakfast Club
4) Ferris Bueller's Day Off
5) Some Kind Of Wonderful
6) The Karate Kid
7) License to Drive
8) The Last American Virgin
9) Just One Of The Guys
10) so many choices.... I'll say Rad but I'll change it.

You are a brave man, devo, leaving off Pretty In Pink, Fast Times, Valley Girl, and Can't Buy Me Love.

Devolution here,

You are correct. Replace Fast Times for Rad, and Can't Buy Me Love for the Karate Kid. Valley Girl for Just One Of The Guys.

I'm still thinking.
