One of the best movies i've watched recently...i'd never heard of!
I found in a search on here it was brought up by Crash as being "overrated" .............My opinion is totally different!
Paul listed it in his "movies just purchased" I'd like to hear his opinion?
I'd love to know what anyone else thought too?
It was so artfully done.....the music and score were unique and it had me tangled in it's web the whole time...wondering what going on or happening next. I'm not sure how I feel about the fact Angelica Houston won the supporting Oscar? But I loved Turner and Nicholson.........(Jacks upperlip was bugging me though)

Second time in as many weeks, Muffy, that I come off as the cranky dissident... First, "The Facts of Life" and now "Prizzi's Honor"... :-) Seriously, I've always felt weird about being in the minority on this film, but despite all the Oscar nominations and critical acclaim, I just discovered that it only has a 6.8 rating on IMDB. I'm clearly not in the minority! I supsect that all the praise heaped on this film was due to the good will generated by Jack Nicholson and Kathleen Turner. (Who doesn't like them?) I thought the performances by Angelica Huston and William Hickey were also overrated, just way over the top. As I recall from the reviews at the time, this film became a critical darling because it was seen as a return to form for beloved, aging director John Huston who spent the early 80's directing hackwork crap like "Annie," "Victory," and--if you've seen it, you'll never believe that it was directed by the same guy who did "The Maltese Falcon" and "Treasure of the Sierre Madre"--"Phobia" with Paul Michael Glaser. (Watch in disbelief as John Huston sinks to the level of a Canadian tax-shelter slasher film.) Writer Richard Condon's stuff ("The Manchurian Candidate" and "Winter Kills") has such a distinctive feel that I think was completely lost by Huston and company, who decided that mugging and hambone scenery chewing were equivalent to high social satire. (If you want to see a really funny, delightful 80's mob film, I'd go with "Married to the Mob.") Then again, lots of folks disagree. As comedian Dennis Miller used to say, "I could be wrong..." :-)

I thought this was a fun movie. Plenty of laughs and an interesting story. Not much to complain about from me.

"We are family"
Just watched it, was ok but nothing special. Everyone overacted, guess that was the point but it didnīt amuse me.
I was anxious to see how it ends but this was just too long for itīs own good. And i hated that darn airplane scene everytime they flew from NY to L.A. and vice versa.
So Anjelica won an Oscar, now that was an easy one. But i donīt like the competitors too much either:

Those Razzie movies are definitely more fun to watch than the Academy's picks.
I agree with you, Atomik, that the plane shots going back n forth were really dorky.
Ah, but what can I say, I like Prizzi's Honor. It's 2 to 2 now, who is going to break the tie?

Atomik I loved your points......Whats funny is those are why I liked it over other mob movies. Right from the start....it had a serious feel yet not so much.....the way it was shot felt "campy" at times.....and the overacting I think is what drew me in......the scene where Turner and Nicholson are at lunch and so in love with each other got laughs from me.......I thought it was like that on purpose...I totally thought also that the airplanes were funny........kindof like in a play..."next scene" instead of some boring shots of someone sitting in a plane or something.......(i'm the minority on that one)
I have to agree with you two about the Razzie's though!!!
Now is there a site where you can look up Razzie movies by year? let me know.........

omg what a riot! so what do I do first but look at 1989.......and there's KK3 for worst movie.....after I just wrote about it a few minutes ago......Roadhouse! and now it's probably the MOST played movie on cable. Totally!

LOL Poor Travolta in Perfect being nominated......and oh man did the Razzies hate Pia Zadora!

I feel like this is going to become my permanant tagline...."I own this one...but haven't got a chance to see it!" I think I'll put it high on my list though...maybe watch it tonight.
And just to clarify...Crash....did you dis Annie in the above post!!!For shame.....this happens to be one of my guilty pleasures....37 year old happily married man...loves hockey...and the UFC...and I sure do loves me some Annie!
