As an homage to the book "1,000 Place to See Before You Die," I start this thread, "1,000 Rewinder Places to See Before You Die." (I'm not sure that we can get to 1,000; but it's worth trying.)
I'll start with the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, location of the 1984 classic "Purple Rain." Minnesota, despite having some of the worst weather you'll ever encounter (two seasons--really, really cold and really, really hot) is a spectacularly beautiful state, and the Twin Cities rival New York City for amazing things to do--drinking, eating, shopping, hanging out... OK, I'm a little biased because I spent a few years there while in school, but I will tell you that a visit will completely squash those images of the stodgy, boring Midwest. The Twin Cities are spectacularly cosmopolitan, upscale (very high average income), and trendy. If the weather would just cooperate, it would be one of the nicest places on the planet.
OK, next... (And who will be first with an ode to the Sherman Oaks Gallery? :-))

I agree Crash....been out to MN many times because I have lots of family there. The Mall of America is something spectacular I must say. The weather sure is brutal at times, I agree!!! Beside just the cities though, I love the country land and scenery....just a beautiful area. I love all the lakes and resorts too.... nothing like the crappy, busy, overpopulated, rude, and polluted area I live in and near - also known as The Tri-state area on the east coast....

I've been an east-coaster most of my life, and I couldn't agree with you more. Is it so hard for people to be polite? I mean, it doesn't cost anything. People in the Midwest and South are so much friendlier and nicer.

I agree! I love going on vacations just for that reason Crash....

Crash.. Great Topic.. I'll contribute a few to the 1,000 Rewinder Places to See Before You Die:
Golf N' Stuff from The Karate Kid
Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :
The Drake Hotel from Risky Business
Other than no Porsche parked outside waiting for me, not much else has changed about The Drake's exterior.
Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :
The Walsh house and Haystack Rock on Cannon Beach from The Goonies
Totally did the Truffle Shuffle out front
Where's the Pirate Ship?
Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :
The Smurfit-Stone Building from Adventures In Babysitting
I asked about getting out on the roof, but was denied!
Thought it was classic that they had a caution sign by the revolving door.
Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :
The Sherman Oaks Galleria from Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Commando, Innerspace, and Chopping Mall
As I've mentioned before.. The Sherman Oaks Galleria is a shell of its former 80's awesomeness, but still worth the visit if your in LA. Since The Sherman Oaks Galleria was considered the center of the Valley Girl culture, most people think that the mall scenes from the movie were filmed there, but actually only the exterior was used in a aerial shot.
The Santa Monica Mall from Fast Times At Ridgemont High (exterior)
Del Amo Fashion Center from Valley Girl
The food court still has Brad's 'Hot Dog On A Stick' and my fav 'Chick-fil-A'! Anyone want to ride up and down those escalators all day with me?

Just recently visited Golf N Stuff for the first time. They had a little montage of scenes from The Karate Kid on the wall just inside the arcade. I have to say the miniature golf courses are great! Fun place for a late night game and a walk down memory lane.

Hey Coop424.. when I visited Golf 'N Stuff they actually had the USSR vs USA Hockey game that Daniel and Ali_with_an_i played with in "The Karate Kid". It was on display next to the wall of pics. I took a picture of it, but like so many of my location pics they were snapped with an old camera and I've never taken the time to scan them to my computer.
You had to enjoy the fact that you were hanging out in the same place that your buddy Ralph made legendary.

Johnstown, Pennsylvania: location of the 80's classic "All the Right Moves," the long-lost 80's classic "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains," and the 70's classic "Slap Shot."

Crash, where in Johnstown did they do filming for THe Fabulous Stains, and why don't I remember this?

The girls are seen wandering the banks overlooking the steel mills of "Charlestown" a/k/a Johnstown. Later, there is a scene shot outside of old Johnstown High School right before the girls leave town.
You don't remember it because, like The Stains, you wanted to get out of Johnstown, fast.
Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :
I have to rent that. I know I saw it when I was younger, but I don't remember them coming to town to film at all, unlike when ATRM came to town. I actually didn't hate Johnstown, but I did hate the attitudes of the people there- mostly union people with no education making big bucks and never saved a dime of it.

Hey Valley! That's so true! lol Reminds me why digital is so nice! It also reminds me half the pics I took there are on still on my phone! (For whatever reason I was using both phone and camera that night.) Need to move them to my computer! Most of my shots were outside, but I think I got a few inside.

Well, since we've been discussing the movie "Spring Break" .. I wish we all would've had a chance to enjoy Ft. Lauderdale back in the 80's. My brother lives there and I visit about once a year.. unfortunately most of the places from the movie no longer exist. However, one place that still does is..
The Elbo Room that is located at the intersection of Las Olas Blvd and A1A Highway:
The Elbo Room is just across the street from Ft. Lauderdale's incredible beach...
Oh and Corinne Alphen needs to be my Spring Break guide..
Finally .. found this old postcard from back in the 80's that Penrod's sent my brother for Christmas..
So on this snowy Christmas Eve in Ohio.. Penrod's is totally calling my name! Meet you there?

Great topic Crash.
From the 1980 flick The Private Eyes with Don Knotts and Tim Conway, The BILTMORE ESTATE would be quite a sight.
