For me so many movies from the 80's have awesome soundtracks.........songs made especially for the movie that become big hits (Time of My Life).......songs that were in many movies that you still loved every time you heard them (Yello?..........Timbuk3?)

.........music makes so much of an impression in a movie...the score and soundtrack.........memories of a movie can be sparked just from hearing a song?

My question is..........can you think of movies where the soundtrack was so awful it ruins the movie for you?

The whole movie could have been completely different with different music!

.........also who would you replace the awful music with to make it awesome !!??

ok so off the top of my head......

Band of the Hand-Bob Dylan....really seemed out of sync right?? it could have been totally different??? what if they'd let Glenn Frey on that project???

One song that comes to mind is "Oh No" from Last American Virgin=cringe!

Not at the time, but one for me where some elements of the soundtrack (the prog-rock bits when the visuals are long shots of a single rider travelling a barren landscape) stick in my ears like that last bit of unsightly wax that just won't let go, is Ladyhawke

Oh - and Spacehunter: Adventures etc etc has a rubbish soundtrack.

That was the first thing I thought of when I read the thread title... and then my emotions immediately leapt to the defence of the main title! I think you said it best with some elements.

Bam-Bam! What are you saying?! I love that song! The lyrics are *exactly* what the Gary character is feeling! Ok... I know it's Lionel Ritchie, but goddamit the man knows how to throw together a ballad! Next you'll be saying 'Endless Love' is bad! (I'm not being ironic, either!)

Ok, the 'third act' of the song is a little tepid, but still...

"I want you... to want me... I'm going crazy knowing he will be your lover tonight. And when he comes... I'll let you go... I'll just pretend that you walked out the door. Oh no. I can't sleep. Oh no. I'm goin' crazy with love...
Over you."

I'm welling up!

And I'm cringing! The combination of that song and the pain in Gary's face=too much!

Nothing comes to mind except maybe Blood Sisters [Big Grin]
The score was made with a two dollar Casio but it was a five dollar flick anyway.

Of course i would love if every movie could have a cool synth score in the John Carpenter/Tangerine Dream vein
or a highly melodic dance/hard rock soundtrack [Cool]

But then again i also love Jerry Goldsmith/Hans Zimmer stuff too.

I have to agree with Logan on Last American Virgin.........because that movie has so many great songs in so many great parts!! and that song seemed to fit the tone for me...........so Bammersey??? what song would you play during that scene instead???

I've never seen Ladyhawke or Spacehunter....maybe the music is the reason I don't know them that well.

I just wanted to spark some convo other then Halloween movies [Smile]

I know for me there are way more cool soundtracks in movies from the 80's then bad......... [Big Grin]

Must just be a sore spot for me-plus not a Lionel fan, so playing a song I don't like, more than once-within a movie that's painful enough to begin with-just double does it for me!

I saw Ladyhawke recently (within the last 5 years)for the first time-and do remember thinking the music didn't match. Too progressive for a mythical movie.

Spacehunter is a cheesy Mad Max-esque Sci-Fi romp with Molly Ringworm. Ladyhawke is a pretty good fantasy movie by Richard Donner, starring Rutger Hauer, Michelle Pfeiffer and Mathew Broderick. You should check it out.

Do you mean there was an emotional overload? Are you saying you do like the song?

"I want Bam-Bam... to want 'The Best of the Commodores'... I'm going crazy knowing she won't sing 'Endless Love' tonight. And if she does... she'll be being ironic... now I'm struggling to think of something that rhymes. Oh no."

"The Alan Parsons Project... which I think was some kind of hovercraft!"
