well, my fridday night is coming to a close and it was pretty frighting. Made a pumpkin rice laksa soup and served it in a pumpkin with bread and then watched paranormal activity which scared the absolute hell out of me. No real plans for tomorrow night as of yet.

IDK yet...I've been watching them all week. I don't really have anything planned.

Happy birthday aTomiK!

Halloween party tonight, so beers instead of movies. As usual, haven't seen as many horror/Halloween movies as I would like this season. Will try to squeeze two in tomorrow night....trick or treating with my son, so he likely won't be settled until 9 ish, so hopefully me and my wife can watch two movies which should take us til 1 AM or so. I may have to extend the season til Monday night as I've not seen some favs like Monster Squad, Fat albert's Halloween Special, and a few more. Happy Halloween everyone!

Happy B-day, bro....

I usally watch Halloween (1978) on the 31st every year so I might do something different this season. Tomorrow I may go with Rob Zombie's Halloween. Since I live in Texas, and I recently watched one of the sequels, I'll probably watch The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) tonight. The original TCM is one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. So unless I decide to watch Christine, there will be no 80s horror in my lineup.

Am I really the only one watching Rockula this weekend?

Posted by Zombo (Member # 8405) on :

Watched the original Night of the Living Dead last week, Monster Squad last night, and we're doing a Fright Night I & II double-feature tonight!

Posted by Riptide (Member # 457) on :

I love Rockula! It doesn't get enough love on here. An obscure movie I want to see again, Saturday the 14th, anyone see it?

Posted by Riptide (Member # 457) on :

Anyone know where I can score a copy of Full Moon High? Never seen it in it's entirety, is it worth it?

Posted by Secret Admirer (Member # 3574) on :

I haven't seen Saturday the 14th or Full Moon High yet, Riptide. I'll have to check those out.

I think Monster Squad and The Midnight Hour are gonna be my Halloween picks tomorrow.

This isn't the first time I've seen this movie Willy..I wouldn't say it's among my favorite old B&W Horrors...but it is vintage F. Coppola and it's worthy of a look if you've never seen. What this movie DID do though is put me in the mood to watch the great Halloween oldies today. So I replaced some of the more modern Halloween movies I was gonna watch with a few of my favorite vintage B&W films. These include:

White Zombie (1932)
Nightmare Castle (1965)
Psycho (1960)
Plan 9 from Outer Space (1958)
Carnival of Souls (1962)

..All these great films are queued up for me to watch later. But they will more likely have to wait until after Halloween because a local Portland station called the THIS Network has gone and decided to create quite the nice Halloween movie lineup...easily the best I've seen after browing all other station's movie lineups. So I will be keeping the tube glued to this channel.

The movie lineup goes like this:

12-2pm:
It's Alive (1968)

2-4pm:
The Crimson Cult (1968)

4-6pm:
The Return of the Living Dead (1985)

6-8pm:
Pumpkinhead (1988)

8-10pm:
Elvira's Movie Macabre: The Brain that Wouldn't Die (1961)

10-midnight:
Freaks (1932)

....Now is that a lineup or is that a lineup?

That looks like a mighty frightening lineup, pyro.

I forgot to add Trick Or Treat to my list. I've never seen it, but you guys have peaked my interest. Been kind of holding on to it for a while so I can watch it today.

I enjoyed the weekend with some classics:

Friday the 13th 4
Amityville Horror
Halloween 4 (part of it)
Hocus Pocus
It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
Lost Boys

I watched the ones I had planned to watch and then ended the night with Gremlins, which is more of a Christmas movie I think, lol, and the remake of The Last House on the Left. I've seen the original and totally expected this update to be crappy but I was pleasantly surprised.

That's quite the variety, Pyromaniac! Just two quick comments since all of these film have been discussed in great length either here or elsewhere. What version of "Nightmare Castle" do you have? I remember liking that film a lot too when I saw it a couple of times on local TV many years ago, but I picked up an uncensored version called "Faceless Monster" a few years ago, and it was a revelation! It runs so much longer and is much nastier and more violent. It's one of the best looking non-Mario Bava Italian Gothics that I've seen. Barbara Steele makes any film better. And here, she's playing two parts! Lover her!

Also, I love the trashy, zero-budget thing that is Larry Buchanan's "It's Alive" (1968). Buchanan's goofy films, made for AIP-TV, fascinate me because I read that each of them was filmed for something like $(US)10,000! (Tommy Kirk, the nominal "big star" probably walked away with a grand for his efforts!) It's hilarious in a kind of surreal way with all that MOS footage, the overheated narration, padding of folks running in circles, and the filming location's being an obvious tourist cavern. Oh yeah, the "giant" (shot in forced perspective) ping-pong-ball-eyed monster is a hoot too! I'd seen all of the Buchanan films, except this one-- which had somehow eluded me for over 40 years-- and stumbled across it on the Independent Film Channel a while back. I had a great time with beverage(s) in hand. :-)

I must have bought "Nightmare Castle" about 20 different times, (mostly on VHS), over the years. It's one movie I've gone through many copies of for some reason...but always have to have it again..lol. But I don't think I've ever seen or owned this "Faceless Monster" you speak of. I wasn't even aware there was a longer version. The most recent version of "Nightmare Castle" I bought is part of a 15 film 3 DVD complitaion I bought for $10 bucks at Wal-Mart. It has other good classics on it like: House on Haunted Hill, Carnival of Souls, The Undertaker & his Pals, Dominique is Dead, and Blood Tide just to name a few.
But anywho..I will definetly keep a look out for the longer edition of Nightmare Castle.
