The song is called: Let's Just' by Larry Gittens.
It was not included on the soundtrack and I'm pretty sure it was never released on any other album either.

Here's a movie I never saw until this weekend...I have mixed thoughts...
I remember when this movie came out but never paid any attention to it cause it seemed very "adult" at the time. I was a kid, what did I care/know about infidelity & marriage. The only thing that stuck with me was the Stevie Wonder hit "I Just Called" from the soundtrack.
Anyways, now at 36 and running low on movies in my Netflix queue, I decided to give this a whirl. I was shocked, that the iconic scene of Kelly LeBrock dancing on that air vent in the red dress, panties & heels, happened right in the beginning of the film. Where do you go from there? Seriously, even as a straight woman, it's like there's nowhere to go but down.
For the next 20 minutes, I found myself struggling to not hit the stop button. I was actually getting angry & I can't exactly say why but the movie was irritating me. I stuck it out.
It had it's moments here & there. Gilda was unlikable & funny all at the same time. Not sure how she pulled that off. I was surpried to see Michael Zorek pop up in the cast and the guy from Blame It On Rio whose name escapes me at the moment but Gene's character was so pathetically silly in his pursuit that it made me cringe at times. Well played I guess. What did you guys think?
Did I love it? No...Would I ever watch it again? Maybe...Did I hate Kelly LeBrock cause she was so beautiful? Definitely !

This is one of these movies that I've seen and blotted from my memory. But I do think about it when I see the uproarious scene in "High Fidelity," where record store employee Jack Black insults the guy who wants to buy "I Just Called to Say I Love You" for his daughter. ("Is she in a coma?" ROFL) My hatred of that song, featured in the film and Steve Wonder's worst (it sounds like it was written and recorded by a five-year-old with a battery-operated Casio keyboard), pretty much sums up my feelings for the movie. Seriously, is there anything more mournful than a failed comedy? I mean, dramas can be boring and dreadful, but a comedy that doesn't work is just painful.

I agree, overall, this movie FAILED as a comedy. I like the thought this provokes...time to start a thread about this very thing...

Yeah, i have the dvd but this is a disappointing movie. Gene Wilder tries hard but the jokes fall flat. Kelly LeBrock does her job though, she is amazing.

The subject matter doesn't lend itself easily to the 1980s style of Hollywood comedy - that of a midle aged family man having a mid0life crisis crush on a younger woman. as such it's gonna feel a little contrived, and there won't be the belly laughs in abundance. Add to that Gene Wilder pretty much played a straight man in most of his comedies, relying for his own laughs on more clever jokes (Young Frankenstein and The Producers spring to mind).
It's certainly not the worst comedy of the decade, in fact there are some great sub-plots, with Gilda's obsession, Gene's clumsy subterfuge, and the birthday party. it's never gonna be a National Lampoon's kind of movie though. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Always liked this film.... from the time when adultery equalled comedy. Not that the real thing is a noble endavor in any way, but that doesn't mean you can't joke about it. After Fatal Attraction most films dealing with this subject had to have some sinister twist or snooze inducing feminist slant. I agree that not all the jokes and gags land here, but overall I think the film works, thanks to the cast, primarily Wilder, and just the easy going early 80's vibe of it all. This is a harmless and somewhat silly male fantasy flick from a bygone era.... I lump it in with Blake Edwards's 10 and Blame it on Rio.... a little uncouth, but enjoyable romps.

Interesting thoughts there, Chevy in disguise I may have to rewatch this one. I really liked "10" when i watched it about a year ago and Blame it on Rio is also good one. Now that iīm over 40, i think iīm old enough to understand these poor fellas Totally forgot that Grodinīs also in this one.

He is, and I like how the twist concerning his character is handled in such a mature and respectful manner, considering the time period. While there indeed is material in here reminiscent of 10 and Rio, I also think there are more nuanced touches akin to something like Alan Alda's The Four Seasons or The Big Chill. But overall it is pretty goofy, I shall concede.

That's a pretty good summation. I would say 10 and Woman in Red are better movies than Blame it on Rio - which I always saw as more of an exploitation movie than an honest look at a male mid-life crisis. I know the music for WiR gets mocked a little, but I always liked the songs, and anyone who remembers 1984 will know how ubiquitous 'I Just Called' was that year. People thought it was cheesy even then, but it sold bucketloads. Worth noting; WiR is a remake of a French film from a few years earlier. It's more or less the same but with less comedy and music. Grodin is Goldin as far as I'm concerned. He's great in practically everything.

Just finished watching the Woman In Red for the first time in an age and I'm going to go against the flow a bit here but I rather enjoyed it,it's not overly hilarious or anything but i still think it had more than its fair share of good laughs.
Kelly LeBrock looked stunning as did the San Francisco locations and i also thought that Wilder and the supporting cast were pretty terrific!
I too Logan love the bit where he's falling through the air and the blonde female photographer winks at him,OK it's no classic but i find it to be a fun watch and there's certainly worse 80s mainstream comedies out there!

Just saw "The Woman in Red" for the very first time. Funny film, with some great comedic sequences. It's definitely not Wilder's best, but still worth checking out.
Great early scene with the extremely hot Kelly Le Brok (who I remember first seeing in "Weird Science") standing on the vent - very memorable
I was also amused by the "gag" that Charles Grodin & his buddies played on that restaurant - i.e., Grodin pretending to be a blind man and knocking over/breaking glasses, etc. & then going to his car & driving away - very funny! The kid in me was laughing at this; but, the adult in me was cringing at how much money it was going to cost to replace all of those broken glasses/plates - LOL.
Nice scenery of '80's San Francisco, as well.
Back when this came out in '84, it passed me by completely due to being a kid & not really having an interest in seeing a movie about a guy going through a mid-life crisis. I remember this coming out very well. People often forget that the song 'I Just Called to Say I Love You' was the theme for the movie. That was the big summer school dance / romance song (Ok, along with 'Careless Whisper' and 'Hello'). It's a remake (fairly faithful) of a French film.
I have a real soft spot for this and rented it a lot back in the day (even though I was a kid). I used to love Gene Wilder movies and would watch anything he was in. I kinda think of this as his last 'contemporary' movie, if you know what I mean. All of the ones that came later seemed somewhat out of step with the times.
Grodin, as always, steals the show. But Gilda Radner also has a nice little role.
I loved the fact the film ended with him starting the whole process over again - really 80's. For some reason the dialogue when he's waiting at the airport always stuck with me:
"While Didi was waiting for me in San Francisco... Charlotte was waiting in Los Angeles. Two women waiting for me in the middle of the night. Crazy as it seems... I had adventure in my life."

Yes, it was funny that Gilda Radner played Gene Wilder's fellow worker that he mistakenly thought was "The lady in red" - then when he saw Radner at the restaurant, he made a hasty exit & tried to unsuccessfully hide from her - LOL. The scene when she turned off his parking brake in the car & caused it to run down the hill & crash was hilarious! What's especially funny about this scene is that Radner & Wilder actually got married not long after this film was released - extremely amusing, given the way they were acting towards each other in the movie
Yes, I thought it was interesting that the movie started at the end, and then ended at the beginning (if that makes sense).
I'll always wonder - did the Wilder character survive that fall in the finale?! LOL

It's true... even at the time people were very critical of Stevie for doing such a lame song. But it is very catchy and deserved to be a hit. Probably his last commercial high point (I think he had a big hit the following year, but then never really bothered the charts much again). I'll always associate it with knocking on a girls door on behalf of a friend to tell her he had a crush on her.

I have The Woman In Red soundtrack LP and though I don't dislike "I Just Called To Say I love You" I picked it up more so for the Dionne Warwick Stevie Wonder combo track "It's You" and also the the other Dionne Warwick solo track "Moments Are Moments"
I hated "I just called to say I love you", both as a kid & as an adult. Really can't stand the song.
That being said, when I just saw "The Woman in Red" last week the song's inclusion on the soundtrack didn't take away from my enjoyment of the film, and did definitely date it to the '84 time period.

I think there's a good song in there trying to get out. Different instrumentation, different style. Lyrically it's not bad (barring some repetition).
I rewatched it again yesterday. Still like it. Not sure I empathise with Gene's character as much as I did when I was younger because he's basically a cheat (or wants to be). The most tacky musical moments for me were 'I Just Called' (which I like) and the piece of dated funk that plays when Kelly dances on the air vent. Kelly, by the way, was perfect casting and looks great.

I just noticed that Judith Ivy plays the wife and she was also the love interest in 'Lonely Guy' which we talked about recently. She was also in 'Brighton Beach Memoirs' in a good role. She's not well remembered but that's not a bad little group of movies.

I got around to watching The Lonely Guy and must say while it's not quite up there with The Jerk,All Of Me and The Man With Two Brains I thought overall it was rather decent and with some pretty funny gags in there!
That's a fun film which you mention Logan Brighton Beach Memoirs I really enjoyed that as I did Biloxi Blues!
