I dont know why this one didnt spawn sequels. For my money its every bit as entertaining as the FRIDAY the 13Th movies.
And how many chances do you get to see "George Costanza" with hair? And in an horror movie? (extra credit he gets cuz its an 80s movie!)

I highly recommend "The Burning" for horror flick fans and especially those that enjoy the Friday The 13th franchise. Actually, if "The Burning" had been release first to a mainstream audience it might be better known today.
The cast makes this movie worth finding in my opinion. Though annoying it was great to see Brian Backer (Fast Times) and Jason Alexander (Seinfield) in early roles. Oh and don't blink, but that was Holly Hunter in a small role. I was never a huge Fisher Stevens fan, but you will find him here too.
But let's get down to what makes this movie infamous.. there is plenty of gore and one scene (don't want to give it away) that is legendary for horror fans.

Perfect summer horror movie. Great blend of comedy and horror and the special F/X by Tom Savini are amazing as usual. Whenever I see George Costanza I think of this movie

Ooh, I liked this one! It's a pretty decent slasher flick. I even went as far as to buy it on DVD. It's a nice movie to watch in the summer.

Familiar faces all over the movie and Cropsy ready to kill `em all Nice score by Rick Wakeman and chilling gore scenes from the maestro Tom Savini.

I saw this way back when, but I finally saw the uncut version with the "big" Tom Savini gore scene intact a couple of years ago. I have to say...I was impressed. As you noted aTomiK, this is a classic 80's film. I believe it was the first Weinstein/pre-Miramax film. It has the great upstate New York locations and that cast. (How many slasher films can boast a future Oscar winner in the cast with Holly Hunter? ) Savini's make-up effects are legendary--while perhaps not as good as his stuff in "The Prowler," still way over the top. The got Rick Wakeman to do the score, which I find to be amazing (probably because it was directed by Brit Tony Maylam who went on to do a fun Rutger Hauer film, "Split Second.") And Jack Sholder, who went on to direct "The Hidden" and other good stuff was the editor. This is a must-see on so many levels.

Yeah, Split Second is dark and fun flick. I have the dvd. I also own The Hidden UK VHS tape. The last time i watched it was in the late 80s so it definitely needs a rewatch.

"The Hidden" gets my vote as the best, least-seen science fiction film from the 80's. It's extremely fast-paced and entertaining--and has a lot of heart too. Highly recommended in addition to "The Burning" and "Split Second."

I forgot to mention that I watched this one. It was pretty good. I barely noticed Holly Hunter! When I saw her, I wasn't sure if it was her or not. Thanks to all the posts here, for getting me to watch it .
