As I sit and watch Better Off Dead with my Saturday Pre Calculus class, I can tell you that telling them that as a high school student, you shouldn't graduate without seeing this movie. I feel the same way about college and Real Genius.
They have taken to this movie like a horse to water, and even though most of them didn't ever know a young John Cusack, it doesn't matter to them. I tell them that the quotability of this movie is second to none, and many of the things that they hear me say are things from this movie. They all just laughed at the no one needs to know- This just in Lane Meyer will be racing Roy Stalin this sunday at noon part.
I think it's the draw of a guy that is going through the hell of the worst break up ever. As a high school teacher, rarely do you meet someone like Stalin.
I think they are getting to understand what a good soundtrack is, songs that work in a movie that you might not know, or more importantly might have just been made for the movie.
The movie, in my opinion, is perfect, it redeems itself through the slightly lame resturant scene, and I have heard many "Aww's" from the girls in the class, I guess they are the one's that are hoping for their own Lane Meyer. Sadly, in Staten Island, there is no skiing to be found.
The reappearance of the paperboy brings them to laughter, and the 90 foot nonfatal plunge seals the deal.
Better off dead. Great then, great now, great years from now.

That is awesome to hear Devo! that they are loving it and having fun!
One of my favorite movies...you make an awesome point with the soundtrack.....the only song that was widespread I believe is Van Halen. Every song on that soundtrack fits the movie and tells the story it's one of my favorite soundtracks.
Lane's mom and her cooking....haha Ricky and his mother haha
I love the opening scenes with Lane and his closet full of Beth pictures and
Awwww
The soundtrack is playing in my head thinking about the movie!!
I'm really excited your students are enjoying this gem....I had a close friend watch it with me who hadn't seen it and she got bored....made me so sad

I think all you need is a small taste of success, and you will find it suits you!
Devo & Muffy.. I totally agree that "Better Off Dead" is an 80's gem.
This movie uses so much imagination and limitless creativity to get its point across in my opinion. And unleashing a little Van Halen never hurts either!
But the tune that always reminds me the most of this movie is:
K-12.. Monique.. Camaro.. paperboy.. tentacles.. Everybody Wants Some.. French.. Roy Stalin.. Dodgers.. Elizabeth Daily.. Buck up little camper..

love this movie and love the soundtrack.
the cut up cereal boxes crack me up!
i love playing this soundtrack in my car and although every song is awesome, i have always been partial to the romantic song by e.g. daily - a little luck... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRamHy7lBh0 she starts to sing this song in the movie, when they leave the dance. just listen to it from beginning to end. daily's voice is so awesome.
i also love the scenes in the classroom with the teacher. the backward reactions from the students... good stuff!
D, i definitely agree about real genius!
