I'm trying to remember the title of an 80's dance movie. It was a fave of my sister's and mine when we were kids. I'm fairly sure it would have been released in the mid-to-late 80's.
I only have a vague memory of the plot but it follows a group of teens/young adults who make up a dance crew (I don't think they sang). They lived in a dodgy old warehouse/apartment building and worked odd jobs for money. I think some of them may have worked in a country club. They used to go to a dance studio but for some reason either can't go there anymore or it's about to be closed down and they need to raise money either for their own careers or to open the dance studio again. They have a rich benefactor who is the widow of the man who may have owned the country club and she helps them with the fund raising.
I know this is a very vague and confusing plot summary but I am relying on my memories as a 6yr old!
Thanks in advance!

Fast Forward (1985) maybe? I like this movie very much and some parts sound similiar.
aTomik.. I was going the same route, but I saw that you already posted it. A majorly obvious element about the fact they went to New York was not mentioned, so that kind of makes me wonder though. But a warehouse was used for practice, so that matches.
Fast Forward and Playing For Keeps are obscure 80's dance movies that get asked about on here.

I remember seeing this movie a few times back in the day. It's good. It's worth tracking down a copy.
If we're talking 80's dance movies I must mention A Chorus Line (1985). So many people hate this movie but I love it!!! So much I tracked down and bought the soundtrack along with the DVD!

Cindy and Devo .. I've seen "Fast Forward" a few times and it is an entertaining movie. I remember being surprised that Sidney Poitier directed and later finding out that Quincy Jones was in charge of musical direction.
"Fast Forward" is about a group of high schoolers called the "Adventurers 8" from Sandusky, Ohio who decide to undertake a journey to New York City to enter the Big Showdown, a dance competition with corporate sponsors. As though Sandusky were somehow insulated from the teen culture that otherwise spreads new trends like wildfire, these teens are not aware of the latest dance crazes on the streets of New York, something they pick up while in the city. But misfortune strikes, and they lose their one connection to entering the big contest. Let the adventure begin!
If you are a fan of 80's dance flicks then you should definitely seek this movie out. However, I was kinda underwhelmed by this movie considering all the legendary people involved.

'A Chorus Line' the original broadway musical is awesome! 'The Music and the Mirror' rules! (Cut out of the movie and replaced with 'Let Me Dance For You').
Who doesn't enjoy Michael Douglas in slip-on shoes with no socks?! Ok, maybe I'm mis-remembering, but I have a real soft spot for the movie!
