"Angel Heart" is a creepy mystery thriller set in the 1950's starring Mickey Rourke, Robert DeNiro, and Lisa Bonet. The plot revolves around Rourke's detective character trying to locate a missing man named Johnny Angel, who was once a famous singer, for a client of his named played by Robert DeNiro. In the process of his investigation, Rourke's character ends up finding himself in a bizarre world of New Orleans voo-doo/occultism and many people he meets along the way are murdered, but by who? The movie ends with a twist and a pretty bleak one at that.
I've always liked this movie...It has an interesting plot, was beautifully shot, and the performances by Rourke and DeNiro were flawless. It's by no means a feel-good favorite, but an interesting and haunting movie to watch when you're in the mood for something twisted. It's one of those movies that stays with you awhile after watching it. Probably one of Robert DeNiro's creepiest performances...as for Lisa Bonet in this...well, I won't even go there!

Good movie.
I've been a fan of Mickey Rourke until Wild Orchid. After that it all went downhill. Maybe The Wrestler will get his career back on track. I hope so. He's one of the better actors of his generation.

This film is excellent. My second fave Mickey film after Rumble Fish. The scenes between him and De Niro are magic. The ending gives me chills.

Saw it in the theater-but not since. Mickey was awesome in Sin City. Rubber tubing, gas, saw, gloves, cuffs, razor wire, hatchet, Gladys, and my mitts.

I love that gif you posted, There Will Be No Morning For Us...I loved The Wrestler, it reminded me of another awesome Mickey Rourke movie, "Barfly."

Ok my sister always had this VHS in her collection I never saw it because I assumed it was a BAD movie all I saw was my preconceived visions of Bonet and a Chicken with no clothes haha I almost think it's still in boxes at my moms house I may have to go steal it.

You should check it out Muffy! Don't let Lisa Bonet scare you off, she's really not in it that much...She only has maybe 10 or so minutes of screen time.

Just ordered the dvd. I saw this once back in the day and remember that De Niro was one evil SOB and there was pretty steamy Rourke/Bonet love scene

I think it was more bloody than steamy

Bamersy, The US theatrical version was trimmed to avoid the NC17-rating. And what they trimmed was the love scene

I'm so unAtomiklike where smut is concerned, but that is a great scene lol

I seem to remember it as having all this voodoo imagery, like chickens being sacrificed and such.

I'm not really an Alan Parker fan, his movies are sometimes too preachy and moralistic (for instance, I hated Mississipi Burning), but Angel Heart is one of the best occult thrillers. It's a very unique, twisty 'Voodoo Faust', with 2 great actors.

Watched Angel Heart again last weekend. Itīs a good film, i loved the atmosphere and the locations. The cast did a great job too.
The Lionīs Gate SE dvd included a cool Mickey Rourke interview. He talks about his 80s films and how he got fed up with acting and relaunched his boxing career in the early 90s. Great stuff!
