Molly, Val, and Gina are graduating college, but on their final night, frustrations are confessed. Molly is still looking for love and Val is beginning to doubt if that is what she has found. Gina is too busy videotaping everything to really notice much. When the final party at Pacifica College kicks off, things do not go exactly as they planned...
"The Allnighter" is a fun movie and even though I always thought Susanna Hoff was gorgeous.. the movie was just lacking something overall in my opinion. I will say the lacking was not the scene where Hoffs dances in front of a mirror in her underwear to the tune of the classic Aretha Franklin hit "Respect". That rocked and saved the movie for me!
Okay and another reason to check this movie out is for John Terlesky. If you watched "Chopping Mall" and said to yourself.. I know that guy from something.. it just might have been this movie.
Anyone up for an 80's beach party?

Veronica I think you would like it.........i'd put it more along the lines of Where the Boys are 84'/ Modern Girls?
I haven't seen it in a long while.

Iīve never seen this but i would love to have it.
Iīm still kickinī my head because couple of years ago The Allnighter VHS tape was right before my eyes and i didnīt get it
Now iīm gonna pack my hunting gear, itīs time to get serious

Muffy.. I know you are misguided about my love for "Modern Girls" and you need to watch it again in the proper '80's night on the town' mood, but "The Allnighter" isn't anywhere as good in my opinion. And I actually like "The Allnighter"..

Devolution here,
With all due respect to the board, I always thought this movie was terrible. The Allnighter was Hoffs one chance to be in movies and star. It was misery.

I used to have it on VHS and then sold it. It is a B movie alright, but Hoffs is a knockout. Worth watching once in a while.
Posted by kevdugp73 (Member # 5978) on :
I like the movie as well, but with a leading lady less attrative than Hoffs, would certainly be less bearable. She's one cute girl next door!
Posted by pork pie mcfly (Member # 6802) on :
Not watched this for along time, I think it's time to dust off the vhs player.
Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :
Got The Allnighter VHS tape today, iīm so happy Need to watch it sometime soon.
Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :
Any full frontal shower scenes with Hoffs?
Posted by Devolution (Member # 1731) on :
Devolution here,
No..... It's still terrible. That might have made it less terrible.
We are DEVO

Oh man. Should I watch? Should I give it a miss? It's a tough one. I guess I will, but I'll probably regret it.

Secretly Devo loves it

Is it not available on DVD, or do you just prefer VHS?
Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :
Not officially. I believe that thereīs dvd-rīs around but i only collect originals.
Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :
I wish I kept all my VHS tapes from over the years. VHS tapes is quite a cool thing to collect. I would have to dust off my VCR before I watched any. It's still laying around somewhere. I might start collecting the VHS tapes too. when you get a VHS tape from wherever though, do you sometimes get ones that are in severely poor quality. You know, because the tape has been thrashed out or not looked after.

I just watched this again last month.....I liked it!!
not just for Hoffs man....but Dede Pfeiffer, Joan Cusack, Micheal Ontkean with an 80s earring.....it's not a horrible movie.....I can't wait to see what Atomik thinks
Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :
Muffy, you watch lots of movies which you donīt tell here. Ontkean with an earring, ha! 80s rules!
Bernie, i very rarely get damaged tapes. Usually i buy tapes from another collectors so they know how to handle this stuff
Posted by Veronica Sawyer (Member # 2221) on :
This is available on DVD just so you all know...
Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :
So it seems! Hooray! Thanks Veronica. If itīs good, iīm going to get the dvd too.
Posted by kevdugp73 (Member # 5978) on :
Thanks Veronica....I'm gettin' it!! Looks like on ebay there are original release DVDs which are quite pricey ($20-$80), though now looks like a 2010 release which you can get for $8....ordering now!

Veronica...I've actually seen the movie...I like it. I love Suzanna, and that certainly helps, but regardless.....I'm a fan. I don't have an official release DVD, so I aim to get one. I say take the plunge!

Just watched The Allnighter and it was great!
Wow, second movie in a row with a camcorder
The cast is awesome!
Susanna Hoffs and Dedee Pfeiffer, one of the prettiest duos in movie history. Joan Cusack great as always. The surfer dudes John Terlesky and James Shanta were cool. Michael Ontkean, a former student back in the neighborhood. Funny Phil Brock as Brad, "In 6 months youīre gonna be banging on my door". Bradford Bancroft as the crazy bartender (Hoffs had the guts to drink his booze ) Pam Grier as a policewoman, now that was a surprise! Those beautiful prostitutes and finally Max Perlich in a ten second role.
Love the locations, the Shangri-la, the beach, the hotel. I also love the fashion.
The soundtrack was very good. Two great I-Ten dudes Steinberg/Kelly penned tunes (Boomerang and Ronnie Spector/Susanna Hoffs) Mike + The Mechanics, Timbuk 3 etc.
Recommended! Much better than i though it would be.

Watching this right now...About ready to turn it off, just can't get into it. Susanna Hoffs and Joan Cusack are good in it, and it was cool to see Michael Ontkean in something else (I know him from Twin Peaks), but the story isn't doing anything for me.
Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :
Yeah so I got around to watching it. Who recommended this? Pretty bad movie I thought. 3/10.
Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :

Bernie's hit list:
1. Valley 2. Muffy 3. aTomiK 4. kevdugp73 - "you just made my hit list buddy." - Psycho, aka Francis Sawyer, Stripes - 1981
Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :
Look Bernie, I'm cool with being on your hit list, but I only started the thread because I'm a fan of The Bangles and Susanna Hoffs. I don't endorse the film .. it is lacking overall in my opinion. Hoffs is a cutie .. but even she isn't enough to make me want to own it.
I'm starting to feel like Mark Kendall from "Once Bitten" after winning for best costume:
"But I'm not wearing a costume! geez!"
Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :
Ok Bernie, wipe Valley out. Put me or kev on top, i can be Lomax enemy no. 1
Posted by kevdugp73 (Member # 5978) on :
Suzanna is so cute...I could watch her in anything. I haven't bought this DVD yet....but I'm sooooo going to!
I'm in welcome company aTomiK....besides.....I'm convinced Lomax is an eleven year old kid with a decent vocabulary....I'm sure the two of us could take him!

Man, I just got the best laugh from reading those last three posts.
Cheers

Ok. I got this from Netflix but only made it through about 30 mins or so. I can't believe that I liked this movie back in the day. It's boring and flat. Cool clothes and all but there's not much there to keep my interest.
Posted by The Pyromantic (Member # 7658) on :
yeah..i made it about 15 mins once into this film. Apparently I do not hold as strong of an infatuation with Hoffs that I once thought I did to make it through this mess of a movie.
