although the original ending isn't on there i'm actually satisfied that I will probably never see it. (Kash had a great thread not long ago about this) Because they talk about it in great detail.......why it didn't work on so many levels, Molly was sick that day.....passed out actually. Test audiences hated it etc.
Since i'm so new on upgrading my dvds.......
What other 80's DVD's have awesome extras that you have taken note of?
I love Say Anything and Goonies dvds. You guys know about the hidden Easter egg on the Goonies dvd right? Know about any others? Valley Girl has great extras and an egg too........I believe. Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :
You mentioned a few awesome ones with great extras.
The "Dirty Dancing" and "Night of the Creeps" Blu-rays have the best extras that I've enjoyed!
Let me add that the "Risky Business", "Heathers", and "The Monster Squad" Blu-rays rank high on my list as well.
Oh and "The Karate Kid".. okay this list could go on for awhile.
And yes Muffster.. everything rocked on Special Edition "Valley Girl" DVD except the lack of a Deborah Foreman interview. What is so strange about that is the fact that she mentioned doing a commentary once? oh and there are a few Easter Eggs on the "Valley Girl" DVD.
Like the paperboy in "Better Off Dead"... "I want my Valley Girl blu-ray!"

forgot about Heathers and Monster Squad I own those too........I have Karate kid on dvd.......did I not watch the extras?? i'm gonna get right on that.....
I wondered about Foreman too? she doesn't really hide out she has pages on the internet? I think i've seen she's done some reunion stuff live with ValleyGirl? I thought?

Yes, she did mention a long time ago that she did a commentary and she also went to a 20th anniversary screening of the movie (this was before the dvd came out). So, it's not like she's MIA like Michelle Meyrink....I heard rumors of money being an issue, but who knows.

Veronica.. the Easter Eggs on the "Valley Girl" Special Edition are cool to find, but overall not that big a deal.
Here are directions to find the Easter Eggs provided by DVD Talk:
"From the widescreen side's main menu, click on "Special Features". Once in, press right to highlight a heart. From there, pressing right two more times will reveal two additional hearts. Clicking on any of these hearts will take you to a clip from the movie, which pauses periodically to provide extensive, formal translations for the "val-speak" used in the film.
From the widescreen side's "Special Features" menu, highlight "Featurettes" and press right to highlight Nicolas Cage. Hit enter to go to an interactive location map, "Locales of the Vals". Here you can click on four of the film's locations to watch brief video clips of the locations today."

As most of you know, with a three year old...I feel lucky just to get through an entire movie...extras just don't happen for me right now. Although, in 1.5 years, my son turns five and goes to regular school...I may even get to watch a movie...IN THE AFTERNOON! I watched the extras on Purple Rain the other day. Really good stuff and lots of it. Maybe you have to be a Prince & The Revolution fan though, I dunno.

Blane actually went to the Prom with Benny's friend in the original ending. That ending didn't have all the great dialogue the re-written one did.

There are quite a few 80's movies that have commentary tracks, but no docs. Things like 'Wargames' or 'St. Elmos'.

I was fully bummed that they didn't show the original ending. I felt cheated. Duckie was the man and Blane was about as interesting as corn flakes.
Speaking of Valley Girl, where is Michelle Meyrink anyway? It sucked that she and Deb Foreman were not in the extras on the DVD. She just disappeared off the face of the earth or something?

They were awesome!! clips of cast then and now...lots of great info about the movie I never knew. The commentary was great Howard Deutch and Lea Thompson.
Does anyone have any other 80's movie commentiaries to suggest?

I always liked the commentary on 'Fast Times' with Amy Heckerling and Cameron Crowe. 'Goonies' is also good (though a little crowded).
Actually... I tend to find if I like a movie a lot the commentary always seems enjoyable. Obviously there is some variation in quality, but I'd say; make a little list of 80's movies you love, and then go see if the DVD has a commentary.
