"Just One of the Guys" has a stellar cast with Joyce Hyser, Deborah Goodrich, Clayton Rohner, Sherilyn Fenn, and William Zabka.
This movie offers tons of 80's nostalgia in my opinion.
I can't mention "Just One of the Guys" without commending Billy Jayne for one of the most hilarious and memorable performances ever as Buddy.
"Don't get me wrong. It's not like I've never had sex before; I've had lots of sex. It's just that now I'd like to try it with a partner."
And if you miss your 80's clothes, you can enjoy some classic 80's fashion throughout the movie. Those outrageous outfits that Deborah Goodrich wore were actually quite popular....I think??
But best of all is the awesome Ronnie Spector song "Tonight You're Mine Baby" that is played a couple times during the movie.
I totally enjoyed the setting for the prom on the beach. The theme was "Passion In Paradise"....check out that huge banner in the background at the cafeteria and then later at the beach above the Brock/Davis band.
Any new fans of this movie?

Sherilyn Fenn was gorgeous in this. No matter how cheap and tacky this film is, I'll always have a place for it in my heart. How good was Joyce Hyser at looking like a guy?!
"Dresses like Elvis Costello, looks like the Karate Kid... I'm gonna meet him!"
Probably the most 'valid' breast shot in any film.
"Where do you get off having ****?!"

This is always # 1 on my favorite films list. I have the soundtrack on CD in my truck within reaching distance at all times.

Okay.. truth be told .. when I picked Johnny Lawrence on my "Fade To Black" thread.. I was totally torn between Lawrence and my truly fav William Zabka villain -
"I see you met Greg Tolan...kinda runs the school. I'm Rick Morehouse...try not to get us confused."
"Just One of the Guys" is beyond underrated!!

Always gonna be one of my favorites.........I laughed at the "valid" breast shot........seeing as I never saw it til I owned the movie.
You should have seen my face the first time I saw Fast Times at Ridgemont High on VHS not Televised.........it was a completely different movie and totally made sense hahaa

Muffy.. that is hilarious! Unfortunately, I'm a little older than you.. or fortunately in 80's terms since I at least remember sneaking back downstairs after everyone went to bed and sitting up all night watching most of these movies on HBO.
btw.. please don't call my mom and tell on me .. okay?
Summer vacation in the 80's was soooo much fun!

If it weren't for HBO, I don't know if I would have ever seen movies like "Heathers" and "Just One of the Guys." Those movies were on cable non-stop in the 90's! Comedy Central used to play "Just One of the Guys" pretty often as well.

Seeing this post totally makes me want to watch this again. This is the perfect time of year for it to with Prom season in full swing.

I was a poor kid haha We only had HBO when there were free previews and we got to "rent" a VCR remember those days? it came in a big plastic suitcase you took home and plugged in.....VCR's were too expensive so we rented them ha!
Posted by Veronica Sawyer (Member # 2221) on :
Yes, I remember those! Do you remember when you could rent DVD players from Blockbuster in the late 90's too? We did that once...

my favorite part in this and the funniest bit in the whole movie in my opinion:
Terri: "Yeah, Well maybe my Balls Don't itch."
Buddy: All Balls itch, it's a fact!
Terri: "Well maybe this will help..." (Terri proceeds to shove a pair of balled-up socks down the crotch of her jeans...stands back and examines them in the mirror.) "Not Bad."
Buddy: (begins comparing his package to that of his sisters.) "$Hit! Maybe I should try that."
Always bust up at that part..lol

Ronnie mentioned watching it.. so I obviously had to bump this thread..
Deborah Goodrich rocked so many great outfits in this flick. None better than the red & white outfit pictured at the top of the thread.
And the beach prom with the "Passion In Paradise" theme is the ultimate!

even when I read the title the song gets in my head........."one of the guys......."
I will always love this movie so much.........actully I think I quote it more then I do others. "yo Terri" "It's ok everybody, he has ****"
Don't even get me started on Buddy quotes!
It's all about Rick Moorehouse......I loved him........when he geeked out about James Brown I was in love. I also had a crush on Booger.........what can I tell you I wasn't mainstream

I'm watching it right now.....I really hold it so dear to me....I love it so much!!! I finish lines I still laugh after the millionth viewing...things i'm noticing today.....Joyce sure does overact in the beginning....and her hair is a mess in the first scenes lol
Denise is a great bff.....and she is a babe why do all the dorks ask her out.
Logan is right Sherilyn Fenn really is great.....I laugh at every line she delivers.
I still love me some Rick Moorehouse.....When Terri's starts falling for him and brushes his hair back in the boys room.....classic stuff!
And yes Valley Deborah's outfits especially are great....I love Terri's Leather get up though....

A classic flick without a doubt. Do you remember the euro cover art Logan5?
Posted by Riptide (Member # 457) on :
This movie has always been awesome. Sheryl Fenn compared Terry's style in the movie to Ralph Macchio, but I always thought she was trying to play a fast talking Mike Damone type from Fast Times.

aTomiK, I remember when you first posted that cover with the soccer balls replacing the football helmets. Definitely, crafty marketing by someone at the time.

Speaking of the beach prom.. I always enjoyed the dance that Rick and Terry do at the prom.
Also, while I'm a fan of Terry and understand why Rick and her ended up together.. it would have been difficult for me personally to break-up with Deborah.

I've only seen this once Valley, about a year ago after some promting from the Rewind. I really enjoyed it and wouldn't mind seeing it again. This movie, in addition to a handful of others, is a big reason why I love the Rewind so much. This is one of the classics I missed in the 80's and likely never would have seen it without the advice of my fellow Rewinders. I love love love experiencing 80's movies for the first time as an adult and get really excited when they stand the test of time.....Just One Of The Guys, Modern Girls, Real Genius, Night of the Comet....all movies I never would have seen...

The great thing about this movie... the really great thing, is just how much fun the cast seem to be having. At no point does the film take itself too seriously.
Valley, you've prompted me to watch it again. Cheers!
