It was a made for TV movie about a mentally retarded guy accused of attacking a young girl, but really saves her from a dog attack. He hides inside a scarecrow in cornfield, but is found out and then shot.
When the townspeople realize he was wrongly accused, those involved in his death are killed by a scarecrow.
I remember watching it a lot growing up and then it disappeared. Don't think it's on DVD.

Loved this movie for its dark qualities. Scared the crap outta me when I was a kid seeing that scarecrow in the field, especially when they showed its eyes move. I also like the revenge aspect of the movie, those crooked townspeople get what they deserved. Good flik

I felt sorry for the mentally challenged guy. I liked the whole revenge aspect too. I haven't seen it since I was about 12 or 13....

Just watched Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981)
It was pretty good made for tv-horror flick. Really slow at times but very atmospheric. I think that it would have been even creepy if iŽd seen this back in the 80s.
Some familiar faces among the cast like Charles Durning and Lane Smith. They all did a good job.
The dvd will be re-released on September 28, 2010.
