I've heard of it, but have never seen it. Sounds like you recommend it though. If you had to compare it to something (more) mainstream, what would it be?

Canīt really compare it to any other movie but itīs very atmospheric horror flick with some cool death scenes/special effects.

Finally watched this special edition. Damn itīs a fine movie! Great characters and a magical 80s feeling.
The interview is a good bonus, Renny is a nice guy giving some inside info.

The film looks a little like Wes Craven's 'Shocker', is it?
You sound like a fan - what's the score? What's it about?

In the 80s there were these horror movies full of electricity, thunder and lightning.
Shocker was indeed one of them, but itīs more tongue in cheek, horror comedy flick. Prison is much more serious but donīt get me wrong, i love Shocker too .
Hereīs the plot summary from IMDb (yeah, iīm lazy):
When Charles Forsyth was sent to the electric chair for a crime he didn't commit, he forever haunts the prison where it occured. Flash forward several years the prison is reopened, under the control of it's new Warden Eaton Sharpe. A former security guard who framed Charlie. When prisoners are ordered to break down the wall to the electric chair, they unknowingly release the angry spirit of Charles Forsyth, a powerful being suffering from a murderous rage, all leading up to the Warden himself.
