I'm going to ask for special acception on this one, Arachnaphobia. I know it was 1990 but it would have been filmed in 89 ha. Plus it has a real 80's feel to it and is a pretty solid movie. Had fun rewatching this weekend.

Contamination (1980)

- Quite entertaining Italian Sci-Fi/horror thriller.
There´s some nasty gore scenes and nice score by The Goblin.

Just watched Cujo (1983) 25th anniversary edition.

- It was about time to see this after some 15-20 years.
It´s still very effective and very good.
Awesome acting by Dee Wallace and that kid Danny Pintauro.

The Howling, more Dee Wallace Stone magic. Its not the best werewolf movie, but good satire.

I could never decide who was a better she-wolf; Dee Wallace (albeit briefly, Elisabeth Brooks or Susan Blakely.

Deadly Friend (1986)

- This was much better than i remembered.
I thought that this was a borefest

The Last Jaws (1981)

- A Decent italian Jaws rip-off from Enzo G. Castellari.
The effects are sometimes quite bad but i bet that the budget wasn´t that big.

The flick grossed 18 million during first month in the US back in the day
but then Spielberg and Universal sued the distributor and won.
There hasn´t been a legitimate version in the US since.

Blood Sisters (1987)

- Wow, this was bad!
Haunted house/slasher flick from hell.
I´ve seen some stupid teenage characters in movies during the years,
but these are among the stupidest

The score is so horrible that it´s better turn the volume down.
Lots of movies are so bad that they are good but this was just plain awful.

The Hearse--I had seen it when I was much younger. I didn't remember much of anything at all about it. I'm glad it was as good as I rememebered! IMO, it's a lost 80s horror classic--you should see it if you haven't!

Murder Rock (1984)

- This was ok italian horror flick directed by Lucio Fulci.

A little bit too much talk and too little action in this one,
but there´s still some nice stuff to all 80s lovers.
Hot dancing babes, New York City streets and good upbeat soundtrack.
Keith Emerson (ELP) has created some very catchy tunes here.

Recommended for those who like more b00bs than brutality in their horror flicks

I have viewed Xtro as well and I remember the birth scene very well. I would watch Xtro once more if I could.

And just for the record, I haven't read the novel "Pin," but I wouldn't say no to it if I had the chance.

it's extremely confusing, and bizarre, but i liked it for some reason.

plus i love the tangerine dream score and the endless fog that runs throughout the film.

Graveyard Shift aka Central Park Drifter (1987)

- Ok, so there´s vampires also in Toronto.
This was an interesting horror flick. Lots of blood and skin.
Nice synth score and i like the two Steve Augeri (ex-Journey) tracks very much.

But i like strange and silly movies
Starring Michele Little (Out of Bounds) Michael Wyle (Tuff Turf) Kerry Remsen,
Pamela Bach-Hasselhoff, Debi Sue Voorhees...

The plot? Forget the plot! It´s one of the craziest ever.
All the girls are very pretty and sadly the drop dead gorgeous Debi Sue Voorhees got killed first.

Once again there´s some cool stuff on the soundtrack.

- This was a decent horror thriller.
Starring Derek Rydall, Rob Estes, Kari Whitman, Pauly Shore, Morgan Fairchild, Kimber Sissons,
Jonathan Goldsmith and genre superstar Ken Foree.

Includes nice Sherman Oaks Galleria scenes but where are the Killbots??

Christmas Evil--it was okay. It wasn't as good as Silent Night, Deadly Night. I was beginning to question the "horror" until mid-way through the movie. It was just okay. I wouldn't rush to try to find it or anything. Netflix has it though.

976-Evil (1988)

For your horrorscope - dial 976-EVIL!

This was entertaining flick directed by Robert "Freddy" Englund.
Nice performance once again from Stephen Geoffreys, wicked and funny.
Fish raining from the sky, 2 public bathroom scenes and hell freezing over!
Good stuff!

This is the only US NTSC VHS tape i own.
Gotta watch the sequel sometime next week.

Man, I get too scared watching horror flicks.

Depending on what time you watch them makes a dramatic difference aswell.

If you watch a movie at 3 in the morning by yourself it make it that much more s..hit your pants scary.

The last one I watched would have been The Howling - '81. Terrible IMO compared to An American Werewolf in London of the same year - which is a true classic.

I honestly can't say I am a major horror fan but occasionally I will see one where I am hiding under the covers.

I just watched Forbidden World (1982), perhaps the greatest Alien rip-off of all time! It's got a cool-looking monster, Jesse Vint, two of the most beautiful women to ever enter outer space (Dawn Dunlap and June Chadwick) SFX by John Buechler, and it's produced by Roger Corman. What more could a fan of 80s horror movies want?

A shot of a silhouette in the darkness could really build up the suspense in his films

The scariest thing about Halloween is the score. Credit to Carpenter, but without that score it wouldn't have anywhere near the scare factor.

The one problem with some of these slasher flicks though is that the killer can be in one place at one time and then in another place in a second, defying the laws of physics and then when they are in a position to kill someone they seem to have the reflexes of a 70 year old man.

Speaking of Creepy tunes, has anyone ever checked out this band called Nox Arcana. They play alot of lyricless music based on old Poe and Lovecraft esq horror. You can find all their songs on Youtube but this is one of my favorites.

dolls is great passthepopcorn,the doll effects by john carl buechler are very impressive and with decent direction by stuart gordon it makes for a fun movie. i can remember the running time being relatively short though at about 70 odd minutes! i have it on us region 1 dvd and the transfer is really good,vast improvement over the old uk vhs i used to have .great film!

vestron uk had some great cover artwork on there releases,dolls,crawlspace,fists of steel,from beyond as did eiv (entertainment in video)- mutant,ghost town, cellar dweller,eliminators etc. i used to spend hours at my local video haunt just looking at the covers ,those were the days!

The Unholy (1988)

The Unholy is a decent horror flick.
The cast is good: Ben Cross, Hal Holbrook, Ned Beatty, Jill Carroll and William Russ.

Too bad that nothing much happens during the middle part
because the beginning of the movie and especially the ending rocks.

Good score composed by Roger Bellon and some cool and nasty special effects.

I saw this film back in the 80s but the Finnish VHS tape was cut.
Now i own this uncut Dutch tape.

seen all of them good package,i liked chud ,the stuff and house 1 a lot,return to horror high was pretty bad but still watchable,mountaintop motel massacre was the only one that tested my patience ,i only lasted half the movie and turned it off,i personally thought it was a bit of a stinker,though i have heard of a few people that have liked it .

The Carpenter (1987)

Canadian production starring Wings Hauser doing another one of his psycho roles.
Actually there is some very good acting in this one, especially from Lynne Adams in the role of
Alice.
It's always good to see Wings Hauser, but in this one he is nowhere near as good as he was in
Vice Squad. (Ramrod is still one of the best psychos in movie-history !)
I thought the horror scenes were a bit uninspired though.

The Carpenter has recently been released on region-free dvd courtesy of Scorpion Releasing.

C.H.U.D. and House are both very good mid-80's New World horror movies. I'll reserve my comments on Return to Horror High and Mountaintop Motel Massacre until I've actually viewed them, though.

C.H.U.D. offers up some a lively performance from Daniel Stern, terrific monster effects by John Caglione, gore effects by Ed French, a moody synth score, and some excellent use of dark shadows and lighting in the sewer and nighttime scenes.

House is a fun horror-comedy hybrid. If you like movies that have lots of monsters, then you'll probably like House, as it's got plenty of them. Among the more notable creatures are the fat female goblin in the dress, the slimy beast in the closet, and the skeleton/zombie version of Big Ben (the Vietnam War buddy of William Katt's character who haunts him).

You Better Watch Out aka Christmas Evil (1980)

It was a fun and sad low budget horror flick.
Brandon Maggart was great as Harry Stadling. He took Christmas pretty seriously
I loved the scene where he puts the beard on and realizes that he´s born
to give gifts to the good ones and punish the bad. "It´s me!! Hahahah" (evil laugh).

The cheap synth score was perfect for the movie, so EVIL
Loved the ending too.

Just watched New Year´s Evil (1980)

It was pretty good old school horror movie.
I didn´t remember that this was a Golan/Globus flick.

The cast did a decent work and i liked the atmosphere. I also liked the music.
The band called Shadow is pretty good, especially their theme tune "New Year´s Evil" rocks.

The Van Nuys Drive-In scene is pure gold featuring topless Teri Copley in her first feature film.

Cool music, decent kills, awesome early 80s scenery and one mixed-up family.

Caught Amityville 3-D today. I had seen bits of it before, but I didn't know I'd like it so much!



Haha, love the funny cover art. I was pre-warned that aside from Meg Ryan and Lori Loughlin being in it, it was nothing worth checking out. Not true! I actually liked it and it had some creepy moments.



The whole seance part was fun to watch. I don't know why seance scenes are always fun to watch in movies?

Alien 2 ; Sulla Terra (1980)

Cool Italian horror-fest about a group of speliologists encountering alien rocks (??!!)..
or something.

After the surviving members finally find a way out of the cave, they're shocked to find out
the whole world has changed overnight.
(something that reminded me of the later Night of the Comet (1984) and Demons (1985)

The movie was independently released on limited edition dvd and blu-ray about a year ago, and
looks truly amazing on both formats.

If you can find it, get it !

Rats - Night of Terror (1984)

"One hundred years after a nuclear war has devastated the planet, society has been reborn into two factions;

This was a mediocre and supercampy horror flick directed by Bruno Mattei.
I have to say that i expected much more from this one.
It was overlong, unexciting and the "acting" was just hilarious.
I liked the synth score composed by Luigi Ceccarelli and the surprise ending though.

Slaughterhouse Rock (1988)

Just watched this A Nightmare on Elm Street wannabe directed by Dimitri Logothetis (Pretty Smart)

Starring Nicholas Celozzi, Tom Reilly (Young Warriors), Hope Marie Carlton (Terminal Exposure and Sidaris regular),
Tamara Hyler, Donna Denton, Steven Brian Smith, Ty Miller and pop star Toni Basil.

I was a bit disappointed because the plot and the acting are sub-standard even for a b-movie.
The score was pretty good (performed by Devo) and i also liked the Devo/Toni Basil end credits tune "The Only One".

Some nice sequences and one nasty kill plus few Hope Marie Carlton nude scenes
The trailer is pretty good so check it out!

House on the Edge of the Park (1980)

I found this Ruggero Deodato exploitation movie surprisingly lame.
Yes, some of the sexual scenes are pretty disturbing but it was low on gore and not frightening at all.
I hated those rich SOB´s!

David Hess was once again fun to watch and the house looked great.
I also liked the score and i have heard that Helen likes it too

I wonder if they will actually shoot the sequel The House on the Edge of the Park part II

watched john carpenter's excellent 1987 horror movie prince of darkness starring donald pleasance,jameson parker,lisa blount and big trouble in little china's victor wong and dennis dun.



also features a very creepy looking alice cooper .

really enjoyed this one,superbly directed by john carpenter and with excellent performances from a great cast, the music score http://youtu.be/fkfKUrwxPfQ also by carpenter is first rate and really adds to the overall atmosphere.

i can remember when this was first released it was generally not very well received by the critics but has over the years built up a bit of a fanbase.

myself personally i agree with quite a few of the comments i've read suggesting this is probably one of john carpenter's most underated movies.

one thing i never realised till i just read it was the opening credits go on for a whopping 9 minutes -

Here in Holland it was released on video as A Night On The Town as well. (released in october '88
to be exactly)

The dvd released here in 2003 was titled Adventures in Babysitting though.

As much as I know that Adventures in Babysitting is the original title because it was made in USA it just doesn't sit well for me because I have always known it by this 'inferior' title.

I really used to love this movie back in the day.

watched hell night starring linda blair,vincent van patten,peter barton and suki goodwin.

atmospheric haunted house horror where four pledges have to stay the night in a reputed haunted mansion- garth manor where 12 years previously a father massacred his whole family.


garth manor

skillfully directed by tom desimone who also made the fun w.i.p flicks concrete jungle and reform school girls he manages here to squeeze quite a bit of tension from a rather cliched plot.

saying that back when this came out remembering this was one of the earlier 80s horror/slasher entries (81) the plot of the teens spending a night in a haunted house being stalked by a deformed killer probably still seemed fairly original.




executive producer was chuck russell who went on to direct the likes of a nightmare on elm street 3,the blob ,eraser and the massive jim carrey hit the mask.
irwin yablans exc.producer on halloween 1,2 and 3 was also along with bruce cohn curtis(dreamscape) the producers here.


linda blair - 1981 golden raspberry nominee for hell night.

featuring decent enough performances from all involved(though blair was nominated for a golden raspberry award for her performance here that year), a cool music score and some great location shooting,notably - kimberly crest mansion http://www.kimberlycrest.org/about_house.html in redlands california which makes for the very creepy looking garth manor.

make hell night an above average entry in the haunted house horror/slasher genre.

i really enjoyed it overall and rate it a strong 8/10

I don't know, never watched all of the original Night of the Living Dead all the way through. But the better make up effects were an improvement and I also liked the fates of the 1990 remakes characters better than the original.

But as far as Fright Night goes, picture can't be improved from the 1980's cinematrophy in my opinion, not to mention music, wardrobe, sets, and every thing else the 80's had that makes it more interesting than things today. The actors of the remake don't compare to the originals, the only thing they can do different is try an modernize the characters, fashion, and music which only hurts the movie in my opinion, add shaky camera work and attempt to pass CGI effects off.

Creepshow 2 is pretty underated if you ask me,I think all three stories are pretty decent especially the last 2 - the raft and hitchhicker,the hitchhiker Is quite funny,the amount of times the poor guys run over and he's hanging of the car and you can hear him keep saying "thanks for the ride lady",I think that's probably my personal fave out of em all.

The raft is also very entertaining,where the woman is lying down on the raft and she turns her face over and its been consumed by the thing in the lake and the end when the guys made it and you think he's got to safety just for that one final twist.

I don't dislike the first story either - old chief woodenhead or the wrap around cartoon segment with the boy billy and the Venus fly trap.

I like both creepshows,I think they are both really good,they did do a cheap in name only 3rd part some while back which was direct to DVD and by all accounts a real stinker.

I don't think it will ever happen but I Wish they'd do a proper 3rd instalment,one that had a decent sized budget,a quality cast and a great director at the reigns,I reckon it would do reasonable business as there's not been many of these horror anthologys of late.

It was directed by William Fruet ( Bedroom Eyes, Killer Party still haven´t seen this one)
and stars Lesleh Donaldson ( Happy Birthday to Me which i haven´t seen, Curtains), Kay Hawtrey,
Alf Humphreys ( My Bloody Valentine), Barry Morse, Dean Garbett and Stephen E. Miller.

The cast did a decent job, nobody shines but i don´t remember any annoying characters either.

This movie mostly relies on the spooky atmosphere and lacks nudity and gore.
I liked it though, it has few necessary horror movie elements:
black cat, creepy village idiot, old house with a basement and a rather familiar twist.

This was a cool Canadian hospital horror film directed by Sheldon Larry.
Starring Joe "Hill Street Blues" Spano, Diane Venora ( F/X, Heat, The Substitute), David McCallum, Robert Joy,
Don Francks, Nicholas Campbell and Ellen Barkin as the Dodson Clinic pathologist!

Loved the cast and the Dodson Clinic hi-tech settings.
Lots of blood, some nudity and excellent eerie (dare i say semi-Cronenbergian ) feel.

Nightmare Sisters (1988)

This was a fun ultra low-budget (40 000$, shot in four days) horror comedy written by Kenneth J. Hall (Dr. Alien) and directed by David DeCoteau (Creepozoids, Dr. Alien).
The films stars Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens and Michelle Bauer (as Michelle McLellan). I´ve always had hots for Bauer, she´s a peach
Nothing much happens during the first 40 minutes but after the seance, things get juicier The second half includes lots of nudity, coolish punky tunes (Quigley has a solo spot),
funny exorcist and finally we can also see the demon Succubus. Check it out if you enjoy silly low-budget horror flicks!

Your right atomik Michele Bauer is definitely a sight for the eyes,over on the mr skin nudity hall of fame it states she has done a total of 66 nude roles - wow!
and scores a 4 out 5 on there ratings system,not sure what they call it,must be something like the nudeometer

watched bloody birthday on blu ray (rental),what a blast this movie is,3 angelic looking kids that were born during an eclipse going round commiting gruesome murders.

forgot how much fun this one was,i do actually own the dvd (same anchorbay edition as above) but i wanted to see how much of a step up in quality the blu was and it's definitely noticeable.

infact for a rather low budget early 80s horror it looks mighty fine,the lossless hd audio sounds a vast improvement as well.

a real lot of fun and comes highly recommended.

Las Casa 3 aka Ghosthouse (1988)

"Visions of a deceased girl and her doll bring doom to the visitors of a deserted house." (IMDb)

This was a very typical ghosthouse film directed by Umberto Lenzi.
Some dude made bad things twenty years ago. Now few young adults enter this house and pay the price.

The best thing in this film is the devilish nursery rhyme we can hear every time someone enters the place.
This was filmed in the same house Lucio Fulci used few years earlier in The House by the Cemetery.
Don´t know if i expected too much because this felt like a small disappointment.

A priest battles a demon that kills sinners in the act of sinning - taken from imdb.


watched the 1988 horror - the unholy which i thought was pretty decent overall and a lot more enjoyable than how i had remembered it being from watching it previously sometime back


terrific cast here included the great hal holbrook(magnum force) an actor who i've always rated very highly plus you've also got ben cross,trevor howard and ned beatty so as you can see it's not a bad cast at all.

there's also some pretty great gore effects on display and quite a smattering of nudity so i'd say it definitely warrant's it's r rating (18 certificate here in the uk) and i must say it felt like a breath of fresh air after an overdose of pg - 13 horror's that i seemed to have been watching as of late.

there are a couple of downsides here though and one is that it does seem to move at a bit of a snails pace at times especially during the mid section(i'd say the 40 minute - 1hr mark is where it's most noticeable) but then picks up rather well for it's daft but very entertaining finale.



actress jill carroll,i'm not sure who it is to the right of her i think it might be gene simmons from kiss.



my major gripe though and always has been with this movie is how god awful the devil creature (which has a huge pointy tongue that would even give gene simmons from kiss a run for his money) looks when it is revealed in the final few minutes and there's also these two hilarious looking demon midgets hacking about all over the place,i couldn't stop myself from laughing!


definitely did like this one though and pleased that i picked it up and for the 3 uk pounds that i paid for it i'd say it was well worth the purchase!

Nail Gun Massacre (1985) was superfun ultra low-budget "horror" film. Cool killer, lots of dead bodies, some nudity and very cool sound effects.

It was time to re-visit Zombi Holocaust (1980).. this time on the recently released UK blu-ray from 88Films.

One would have thought i had grown into more "sophisticated" types of movies over the years..

well.. no, not really

The UK blu-ray features a restored print, which doesn't look too clean and smooth, thank god..
It still retains its gritty look with numerous anomalies still present, just the way it should be !
I have never seen the earlier blu-ray version which was released in the US a couple of years ago,
so i can't compare the two.. but i'm pretty sure the 88Films version is as good as it could (or should) be.

Among the extra's is the excellent documentary Eaten Alive ; The Rise And Fall Of The Italian Cannibal Film
which runs 85 min. !
(The same documentary can also be found on Grindhouse Releasing's Cannibal Ferox US blu-ray release)
There's also a recently recorded Q&A with actor Ian McCulloch (48 min.), plus some other extra's carried over
from previous dvd editions, as well as a booklet with yet another McCulloch interview.

Murder Weapon (1989)

This was a decent low budget horror flick directed by David DeCoteau.
The first 30 mins is pretty dull stuff but it gets better when pretty stars Linnea Quigley and Karen Russell invite all their old boyfriends and of course they start disappearing one by one.
Nudity, wicked kills and lots of fun dialog.

Watched for the very first time the 1989 horror comedy - sundown vampire in retreat which is directed by Anthony hickox (waxworks) and stars Deborah foreman,Maxwell caulfield,David carradine,Morgan Brittany,Bruce Campbell,m Emmet walsh amongst many others.

Very wacky horror comedy this that features a lot of the craziness that made director Anthony hickox's earlier horror hit - waxworks so much fun!

Maxwell caulfield is the standout here for me in what is virtually an all star cast,he's a lot of fun in this and i feel quite an underrated actor.

Well worth checking out! 7.5/10.

Still haven´t seen Sundown but sure would like to!

Watched Dead & Buried (1981) last night. Pretty entertaining mystery horror film but not a classic by any means.
It was directed by Gary Sherman (Vice Squad, Wanted: Dead or Alive, Lisa) and stars James Farentino, Melody Anderson, Jack Albertson and Lisa Blount.
You can also see Robert Englund and Barry Corbin in small roles.
I liked the atmosphere and i must say that it feels like a long Twilight Zone episode. But hey, there´s nothing wrong with that!

watched 1984 stephen king film adaption of - firestarter starring a young drew barrymore (9 years old at the time) and the great george c. scott,martin sheen as well as the likes of david keith,art cartney,louise fletcher (nurse ratched from cuckoo's nest) and the pretty heather locklear of t.j. hooker fame!

not sure how this compares to the book but i've always had a bit of a soft spot for this one even though it's never been regarded as one of the better stephen king adaptions.





great performances all round especially from drew barrymore,i thought she was excellent here as the young firestarter of the title charlie mcgee,keith david is his usual reliable self and george c. scott and martin sheen come across as being pretty despicable as the main villains of the piece.

the big pyrothenic display of the final 15 - 20 minutes still packs quite a punch even today,i read a reviewer saying that he thought this could do with a remake and that things would look a lot more convincing with the use of modern cgi effects - err no!

love the tangerine dream score as well which certainly adds to the overall atmosphere and for some strange reason i thought it was filmed somewhere like - virginia or one of those states but i was a little bit off the mark as it was actually shot in - north carolina which looks a rather nice part of the u.s with some beautiful looking lakes and scenery.




watched this on blu ray and despite some pretty mixed reviews concerning the picture quality i thought that overall it looked pretty decent and
it completely blew away my old dvd copy.

only paid just over 5 uk pounds for it as well so even better still!

a lot of fun 8/10.

The final scene is the best 80s superhero stuff i´ve seen with Superman II: The Richard Donner cut.
Tangerine Dream score gives the film a magical feel and i also like the locations. Even though it´s not pure horror, firestarter is perfect 31 days of Halloween material.

Watched the really fun 1986 horror - April fool's day starring Deborah foreman,Clayton rohner,griffin O'Neal and is directed by Fred Walton of when a stranger calls fame!

I've always really enjoyed this one myself though I do think the viewers enjoyment depends a lot on whether there willing to go along with what is in all truth a pretty daft twist ending.

Set at a remote island mansion this has got quite a cool and creepy vibe to it and though it certainly lacks in the gore department I'd say it more than makes up for it with some good laughs and suspense!

Watched Dark Age (1987) the other day.
Not a lost classic but entertaining nature strikes back/ozploitation film this one.
Starring John Jarratt, a seasoned veteran who´s maybe best known now from the Wolf Creek films, pretty Nikki Coghill (Playing Beatie Bow) as his love interest,
Max Phipps (Toadie from Mad Max 2) as the ultimate SOB (love it when he shouts to Jarratts character "crock lover" ) and David Gulpilil (Crocodile Dundee) as one of Jarratt´s aboriginal friends.

Nice australian scenery, few shock scenes (the crock eats a kid!) and cool synth score. even Quentin Tarantino likes this one

Love creepers aka phenomena, it's an awesome argento horror with a really cool soundtrack.

I watched the 1989 horror - phantom of the opera starring the great Robert Englund and the beautiful and very talented 80s scream queen Jill schoelen, it's a really fun and gory take on the phantom story which has the look of a very high budget production - the sets,costumes & gore effects all look terrific here and for what i'd imagine was in all truth probably put together on a fairly moderate budget (I can't find the budget costs listed anywhere) i do think that overall they done a pretty amazing job!





Along with the excellent Robert Englund and Jill schoelen you also have the great Bill nighy (love actually) and the late Stephanie Lawrence who gives a good performance here as the evil songstress La carlotta in what was to be her very last feature before she passed away in 2000 aged 50 from alcoholic liver poisoning.





The movie only took a measly 4 million at the box office and I can actually remember some of the negative press it received upon its release but it's one that I've always really dug and I do tend to revisit every couple of years or so!

Overall a great looking horror with a top cast that doesn't quite get the credit it deserves! 8/10.

Watched the 1983 horror - The Alchemist the other day, it's a cheesy but fairly enjoyable early Charles Band horror with Robert Ginty (The Exterminator) as a man (Aaron McCallum) living out in the wilderness for many years having been cursed by a warlock (DelGatto) into having him having to hunt for his food like an animal.



On screen effects courtesy of the Commodore 64.

Pretty slow going at first but never boring and with a strong Richard Band music score I've always fairly enjoyed this one and it has that same cool vibe as many of Band's other early 80s productions,you know the creepy settings, wacky creature's (in this case 3 funny looking demons),etc.etc plus some on screen effects that look like there courtesy of an old Commodore 64 you know the score but it's all fun and show's a lot more imagination than a lot of today's modern horror!

Also stars Lucinda Dooling (Lovely But Deadly) who passed away last year aged 61 she's pretty decent here as Lenora Sinclair a young woman who is strangely drawn to the cursed Aaron McCallum as played by Robert Ginty,talking of the late great Rob Ginty even though he plays one of the main character's here and is given top billing he sort of drifts in and out of the movie as the film Progress's and i would say probably actually has a lot less screen time than either Dooling or her Co star John Sanderford (Leprechaun),saying that when he is on screen he's his usual cool reliable self!



The evil warlock DelGatto.

Despite all the negative reviews this one has picked up over the years I must say I actually do quite enjoy it and I'm surprised no one has yet to release it to the digital format (DVD/blu),it needs it as my vhs has certainly seen better days and was a bit of a challenge to get through (picture kept going,constant tracking lines,etc.)

So overall it's a fun early 80s horror with a cool creepy atmosphere and a awesome Richard Band music score,plus you've got the forever great Rob Ginty and also the lovely Lucinda Dooling up on screen!

Good stuff! 6.0 - 6.5/10. (Dropped from a 7.5).

Yeah actually I'm going to drop it down a notch or two as I only gave April Fools Day an 8 and it's nowhere near as good as that!

Watched The Beast Within (1982) which was a nice mystery horror film written by Tom Holland and directed by Philippe Mora.

Nice atmosphere in this one eventhough the first hour or so is kinda slow but you can see few gruesome murder scenes.
Then comes the awesome mutation scene and the monster chase begins.

Paul Clemens did pretty good in the leading role and there´s lots of familiar faces among the supporting cast.
The Arrow blu includes highly entertaining documentary. Good stuff!

I really enjoy The Beast Within it's got a great creepy atmosphere plus the odd grisly moment,the original UK vhs was cut by over a minute,love that Warner home video artwork!

I own the arrow blu ray as well (pictured above) and I agree that it's a great release.

The Beast Within is a mixed bag for me. It does have some style and atmosphere, but it's pretty slow going for most of the way. Then you get the big transformation scene which is a showstopper. Literally. Everything and everyone else just stops doing anything while we watch the well-done-for-its-day transformation of boy into giant cicada--or whatever. And then the movie winds up in routine, but okay, fashion. I remember thinking when I first saw it, "Wow. This really is the definition of a 'money shot.' The whole movie just comes to a screeching halt while we see a long scene with the f/x make-up that the producers spent their money on." It's an overall silly, perhaps stupid, film, worth a look, but that's about it.

Another one i watched was this entertaining horror film from Kevin S. Tenney called Witchtrap (1989).

"Parapsychologists try to make an inn haunted by an evil witch's ghost safe for guests." (IMDb)

I´ve seen the first two Witchboard films and Night of the Demons earlier from Tenney so i knew that he has some skill.
I liked the fact that while this is a very low budget film the dialogue between the characters makes sense.
In this movie world anyway. The characters also behave surprisingly rationally which, like you all know, isn´t always the case.
The movie reminds me of Prince of Darkness and early 80s gem The Evil. Not nearly as good as those but overall solid feature again from Mr. Tenney.

Spiritism, Ghostbusters joke, nice Vertigo effect and Linnea Quigley shower scene. Good stuff!

Watched Eyes of Fire (1983) last night.

"A reverend, Will Smythe, and his followers are chased out of town after Smythe is accused of adultery and polygamy.
Joined by a rugged woodsman, Marion Dalton, who wants his cheating wife, the group ventures into a valley, where dwells an ancient evil spirit.
As members of the group start to disappear, the witch-bred, insane Leah must discover how to thwart the spirit." (IMDb)

This was interesting low-budget witch flick with few magical images and haunting feel.
The cast includes Dennis Lipscomb, Guy Boyd, Karlene Crockett, Rebecca Stanley and Sally Klein.

It was hard to follow the story at times and the editing can be pretty wild but overall you can´t help but enjoy the ride.
Brad Fiedel composed the score and while this is not among his best works, this man is one of the most reliable composers in the business.
This film sure is something different and even the witch is very well done. Give it a try if you can find it!

Terrific 1983 sequel to Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 classic which is superbly directed by Australian Richard Franklin and features some really suspenseful moments along with a stand out performance from Anthony Perkins returning here as the nutty Norman Bates who has just been released from the mental asylum after being institutionalized for the past 22 years.





So many great things you can say about this sequel,for starter's it's superbly shot by Dean Cundey (check out this TV spot where Norman is walking up the steps - https://youtu.be/LS-L3cFOsno - terrific cinematography),also the cast here is really solid - Meg Tilly, Robert Loggia,Vera Miles,Hugh Gillin and Dennis Franz,then you've got the fantastic music score by Jerry Goldsmith - https://youtu.be/QMUk1FOTRHE and last but not least it's really well written by Tom Holland of Fright night fame,infact to be honest there's nothing but positive's here for me as I just really dig this movie and i must say it's always been a firm favourite of mine!





Watched this on Blu Ray for the first time actually and the transfer (I have the newly released Australian edition) i thought was first rate and the picture is noticeably more detailed and the lossless HD soundtrack was a treat for the ears,i'd say if your a big fan then the Blu Ray Is definitely the way to go!

The Power (1984)

Fun little horror flick by Stephen Carpenter and Jeffrey Obrow who also did The Dorm That Dripped Blood in '82
and went on to do The Kindred in '87 (which is still unavailable on dvd to this day).

Oddly constructed story, since it doesn't really have a lead character. After a 15 minute prologue we meet
three teenagers and several reporters, and eventually the story seems to focus most on two of the reporters,
but when a little demonic possession is thrown into the mix, the movie shifts gears towards a nasty finale.

Effects are sparse but effective, the cast does a good job, plus there is that typical late 70s / early 80s feel to it.
The Power also deserves credit for not going the "teen slasher" route, which was most common around that time,
but instead chooses to present itself as a supernatural horror fantasy.

I've got the scorpion Dvd edition of The Power johnny,i also think that it's a fun little horror that plays out a lot differently to how you'd imagine it would,i liked the Christopher Young music score plus like you say it's definitely got that early 80s feel to it!

Would love to check out The Kindred again as well as The Dorm That Dripped Blood of which i've only seen the cut uk vipco release,i know the Synapse Blu Ray release has added gore inserted back into the film.





Johnny do you own The Dorm That Dripped Blood on Blu Ray and if so what is the PQ like as the old vipco version I watched under the title of Pranks was terrible,also I can't even remember if I liked it or not,if you have got it would you say that it's one that is worth picking up?

Anyway.. yeah, i have The Dorm That Dripped Blood too. Synapse is always reliable.
Of course there are some limitations to the source material, but i'm pretty sure they tried to
get the best out of it. In my opinion it looks good enough, plus it comes with some cool extra's too !

Definitely worth adding to your collection, Y. Warrior !

Yeah so did mine originally and I soon tossed it in the garbage where it belongs,don't get me wrong I love the standard white Dvd cases it's just that I don't like them when they've got big holes punched through them!

Watched Satan´s Blade (1984).

"At a mountain resort, a local resident is possessed by the evil spirit of an ancient mountain man, and terrorizes a ski lodge." (IMDb)

This movie has a very low-budget, amateur cast and in the middle of the film the plot just drags.
But at the same time it has that haunting feel and the kills are pretty nasty if you can forgive the cheap sfx.
I also liked that the story has a decent ending.
The film was shot in 1980 so you can´t find any mid 80s flavour here.

The power was a excellent movie as far as I'm concerned I loved this movie so much. The last 80s horror movie I watched was A Nightmare on elm street part 2 I think this one is better then the first one.

Underatted sequel Elm Street 2 I think David,very dark compared to the later sequels,Freddy's still pretty creepy here where as in the later entries he loses his fear factor altogether,the continuous funny one liners I think don't help.

Love the Elm Street 2 music score which I believe is done by Christopher Young who also done the music score for The Power.

Watched Alien from the Deep (1989) which was directed by Antonio Margheriti who ripped off every other film back in the 80s.
This time he´s taken ideas from The Abyss, Aliens, Deep Star Six, Leviathan etc.

So, there´s an american factory built on exotic island with a volcano. They dump radioactive waste into the volcano.
Two Greenpeace workers start filming while the volcano becomes active, wakes this monster from outer space and all hell breaks loose.

Sounds fun but what we have here is lousy plot, bad acting, cheap effects and Charles Napier.
I have only one advice: Stay away from this island!

I know Charles Napier didn't stand a chance against Rambo but does he fare any better against the Alien From The Deep?

Atomik have you ever seen the sci -fi horror Deep Space with Napier from 1988,if so is it any good?

Louise Lasser as the twins mother Maddy.

Very enjoyable and extremely gory early 80s horror which was originally made in 1983 but not released in theatres till 87 and under the alternative title of "Nightmare At Shadow Woods" this a fairly well made little slasher which you can tell was probably put together on a shoestring budget and the end results i'd say were very admirable!

The Performances here I thought were generally pretty good though I did think that the twins mother as played by Louise Lasser (Above) could maybe be accused of slightly over acting it a bit though in her defense her role probably did call for this plus that of the asylum security guard who was hunting down one of the twins seemed slightly amateurish though then again in his defense he probably wasn't helped by some of the dialogue that was being used which at times was totally insane!



Mark Soper as the murderous twin brother Terry.

The kills off which there are many range from the gruesome (the early drive in murder) to the ridiculous (the lady psychiatrist who has been chopped in half and her upper body is twitching away a few feet from where her legs lay) and the build up of tension which occurs during these many on screen kill scenes i felt was aided no end by the cool and haunting music score that was used throughout!



The Pretty Julie Gordon as psycho Terry's girlfriend Karen.

Overall this was a really crazy,fun slasher movie that was absolutely full to the brim with gory kills,nudity and a killer 80s synth soundtrack (I loved the music score to this),so in short it was a blast to watch!

I saw this as a rental but I have read that the limited edition Blu Ray from Arrow Video is first rate and I believe that it actually comes on three separate discs containing 3 different cuts of the movie though I might be wrong!

Well, i watched The Kindred (1987)

"Amanda's deathbed request to her son, John, was for him to destroy all the lab notes etc. from her last experiment. She also blurts out he had a brother.

This was pretty typical late 80s horror feature, much like The Nest and few others.
Solid acting, few nasty kills and nicely done creature.
Always good to see Amanda Pays, Rod Steiger plays the evil Dr. Lloyd and David Allen Brooks is our hero John Hollins.

A solid midnight snack for us horror junkies.

Not seen The Kindred in years Atomik but do remember liking it,pretty scarce now on VHS it is one that has been belonging for a DVD or Blu-ray release.

I think Synapse or someone like that had it scheduled sometime back for a future release but it seems to have fallen thru unless it still is on the cards!

The Boogey Man (1980)

Finally watched this early 80s low budget Ulli Lommel hit and i liked it.
At first, i though that this is going to be a straight Halloween rip-off but then came the evil mirror spirit, some exorcist stuff etc.

It´s a little slow moving but has really cool atmosphere and i love the soundtrack.
The theme tune mixes Carpenter sounds, Oldfield´s Tubular Bells and even some Goblin.

Few cool kill scenes in this one, especially the ending rocks!
The lead actress, Lommel´s then wife Suzanna Love did pretty good as Lacey. Not so sure about her brother though
I recommend this one if you happen to like low-budget early 80s supernatural horror stuff.

I've always like Suzanna Love and thought that she's had an interesting life. She came from a super-rich family and got involved in Andy Warhol's New York City scene where she met husband Ulli Lommel. She didn't do a lot of films, but she's especially good in Lommel's Brain Waves and The Devnonsville Terror, the latter, as an auburn-tressed Jamie Lee Curtis lookalike. Cool actress.

The Devonsville Terror is a good one. I still have a The Boogey Man / Devonsville Terror double-feature dvd
from Anchor Bay, which was released in the early days of the dvd format. Transfers still hold up reasonably well.

I believe The Devonsville Terror is scheduled for blu-ray release in the UK through the 88Films label,
along with Ulli Lommel's Olivia a.k.a. Prozzie (1983), which also stars Suzanna Love.

What is it about The Devonsville Terror? A lot of people, including me, like it, despite the fact that it has cheesy, stupid special effects, lots of talk, and some good actors and acting mixed in with some over-the-top lipsmacking performances. It shouldn't be good at all, but it is. Maybe it's because it's inherently interesting or that Lommel moves things along nicely. Suzanna Love--mimicking the look of Jamie Lee Curtis--is a big plus too. She's attractive and watchable, a good actress. Donald Pleasance was always welcome in any horror film of the period, and the thing is nicely shot on a tiny budget. And there's some decent gore and nudity. Maybe that's why it works after all...

Watched The House Where Evil Dwells (1982).

"In 1840, a samurai comes home to find his wife in bed with another man, so he kills them both and then himself.
Flash-forward to the present day, and an American family of three moves into this since-abandoned house and starts to experience incidents of haunting and possession." (IMDb)

Oh boy, this "horror" film has so many unintentionally funny scenes you just can´t take it seriously.
The acting is mostly sub par but like Crash said on another thread, Susan George is a sight for sore eyes.
Doug McClure is so wooden i can´t help but laugh everytime i see him

The ghosts are pretty well done though and i liked the settings.
The giant crab scene rivals the spider scene from The Beyond but it was effective enough for me because i hated those creepy crawlers

The ending was very anticlimatic because that was the most obvious choice to end the film.
Can´t really recommend this one but i have to say that it´s a must see for all Susan George fans.

I'm glad to see someone else who appreciates the charms of Ms. George. I think of all her roles, this one is the most eye candy. She really looks great undraped, overbite and all. A very attractive presence in the 70s and 80s.

Just ordered this US scream factory double feature as I've always liked Ghost Warrior aka Swordkill and I'll just treat House as a bonus feature and at least get a chance to check it out and not get to upset if I think it sucks!

Checked out The House Where Evil Dwells and while I did find plenty of faults with it I still found it to be pretty entertaining overall and i also thought it was beautifully shot!

Certainly nowhere near as bad as I remembered it and pleased I revisited!
