A young girl from the country of Florin loses her true love when his ship is attacked by pirates. Not just any pirate, but the dread pirate Roberts, who never leaves survivors.

This movie is seldom discussed on here, but a comedy classic in my opinion. Cary Elwes who I must admit that I don't care for in most movies, is great as Westley aka the Man in Black. However, my fav character is actually Inigo Montoya. And Robin Wright Penn is fantastic as the lovely Buttercup.

For some reason this movie never did much for me, not that it was a bad film. Rob Reiner pretty much always does good work. I don't know....maybe because of all the cheese factor? Must be because I was a huge fan of "The Giant" growing up and what's not to like about Robin Wright Penn? I even don't mind Elwes. Great write up as usual Valley.

Wow..now I know why it is seldom mentioned. "Princess Bride" is not for everyone, but it has a great cast and is such a fun movie that never takes itself seriously.
And how can you not love the tune "Storybook Love".

I like this one and have a copy of it. I also bought the soundtrack.
It is quiet a slow paced movie and I like it more now as an adult that has a child....
I does seem to lack some excitment!

I didn't care for the movie much when I was younger, but I sort of grew into it as I've gotten older. It's got some hilarious one-liners, but as you say, I guess it's not for everyone.

Same with me i never got into it when i was younger and when i watched it again a few months ago i found it really funny.

Wow. I had no idea there were this many who did not like it. I've never met someone who didn't like it at all. Makes me kind of sad. ):
Well, I actually loved it as a child and I love it now. I lost my copy when I moved, dang it. The whole cast is just lovely and I feel there is plenty of action. It's one of those movies I used to play when I was a new mom continuously throughout the night so I wasn't too sad to wake up to feed the baby.
Anybody want a peanut?

I guess it's not for everyone, but I sure as hell LOVE this movie, chees factor or not. Loved it as a kid and now even more (I have 2 copies and an old videotape - just to make sure. It a great family film for kids and adults, it makes you feel like a child again that loves fairytale adventurelike stories. I also have the CD with Marc (Dire Straights) Knofler (genious)
one-liners and humor I love
Great cast, love Inigo, the giant, Buttercup and favorite cary of course. But all caracters are super even Mad max, the prince, the 6-fingered man, grandpa and many others.

This is a great movie, it just takes getting used to with all the swashbuckling and fantasy elements to it. The part that i liked the best was when vizzini and the man in black are sitting and trying to outwit each other to drink the poisoned chalice it has some of the most memorable lines during that scene. "All right. Where is the poison? The battle of wits has begun. It ends when you decide and we both drink, and find out who is right... and who is dead". This film never did much for me either. My only interest in it is the film locations, many of them nearby in Derbyshire. Here are links to photographs of some of them.
It took me ages to identify the location of the 'farm'. I knew I had seen it before and craned my neck at just about every hill I passed in Derbyshire, then I found a couple of pictures on the Geograph site. I might get round to taking pictures of Carl Wark and Lathkill Dale, also seen in the film.
