First time I ever even heard of this one.

A really recommended movie, loosely based on the quick rise and fall of 50's teen star Fabian.

This looks very interesting. I have to keep my eyes open for this one.

I used to see this on HBO all of the time in the 80s. Ray Sharkey (R.I.P), Peter Gallagher and Joe (joey Pants) Pantaliano... Good movie...

When people mention hidden gems, this one definitely should be on the list. Probably Ray Sharkey's best movie and if I remember correctly he won a Golden Globe for it. Paul Land is great, though he will always be Stu from the movie "Spring Break" in my mind.

Remember how Shirley Feeney had such a crush on Fabian? He sang "Turn Me Loose".
I watched Paul Land in Spring Break, he didn't do it for me so much in that movie, he almost seemed kind of feminine in it.
Atomik-I can't believe I got one up on you.

I watched "The Idolmaker" this morning and it is still a great movie. Another awesome role by Guido the Killer Pimp.

Finally watched The Idolmaker last night and it was fantastic!
"Based on the life of rock promoter/producer Bob Marcucci, who discovered, among others, Frankie Avalon and Fabian."
So, already in the 50s they "made" stars by picking up people basically from the streets. It´s all in the face! The rest i will teach you Great cast: Ray Sharkey, Peter Gallagher, Paul Land, Tovah Feldshuh, Joe Pantoliano etc. Lots of awesome tunes composed by Jeff Barry and most of the actors did their own singing.
