A troubled teenager who finally meets his hero, an astronaut past his prime, quickly realizes the astronaut is now just a shell of his former glorious self. Over time, they recognize that they share many things -- including a fear of failure and an inability to trust -- and their friendship saves both of them in ways they never predicted.
This is an almost forgotten movie from the late 80's with Christian Slater, Martin Sheen, and Sharon Stone.
Any fans of it? Ever dream of being an astronaut or working for NASA?

Never heard of this one Valley. Actually just started a thread asking everyone to list some of the more obscure 80's stuff..I'll add this to my list. Is that Olivia D'Abo in the picture?

kevdugp73, that is definitely Olivia d'Abo from "Conan the Destroyer" and "Wonder Years" fame.

I have not seen this yet, but it has been on my list for a while now. I keep forgetting about it. To answer your question, yes about wanting to be an astronaut. I did for a little while when I was in grade school. After that, I wanted to be more of an astronomer or physicist. I also really wanted to work for S.E.T.I.(search for extra-terrestrial intelligence). I would still love to do that. I gotta order this movie tomorrow.

Just got me a copy of this and watched it last night. This movie was nothing that I was expecting. I thought it would be more of an actual "space" type of sci-fi flick, but it was more of an emotional, sad, yet spiritually uplifting type of movie. Was pretty good over-all, slow at times though. The ending was an actual shock to me.....something that I never expected. Gotta like the cast of Sheen, Slater, Stone, and of course d'Abo. Good watch.
